  1. Hummm, I didn't see a question related to Office 2007 in your post. The forum is for questions and answers, not this stuff.
  2. To get rid of it, delete all partitions, then do not create any partitions. Just say you want to install windows in the unpartitioned space. Then it will not show that 8 mb space. Or, if you want to partition, then create your first partition (c:), then leave the rest as unpartitioned. After windows is installed, then partition the rest in windows disk management console.
  3. How big is the other partition? What drive letter is it assigned? Can you see it in My Computer? What file system is it? What kind of data is stored in this partition?
  4. I agree - IE7 and WMP11 would be great; and when IE8 comes out, that would be excellent. Is there an alternative to nLite to do this? If it can be done manually, anyone know how?
  5. Yes, these are called PIP files. They are found in C:\Documents and Settings\%userprofile%\Application Data\Microsoft\Office folder. Each office app has their own. E.g. Access12.pip is for access; excel12.pip is for Excel.
  6. I understand what you're talking about... I, however, have not experienced any trouble preventing my computer from sleeping when I'm playing a movie with any of the players - Media Player Classic, Windows Media Player, or VLC Player. My computer remains on during playback. I'm not sure about audio music - but I don't think my computer will sleep when I play audio either. Something else is going on in your computer. Wait... sorry, I'm using XP. But I don't see why this would be the case in Vista.
  7. I didn't have any problems importing contacts from OE to Live Mail. Everything works fine. There are a few bugs in Live Mail but it's not annoying and harmless.
  8. To slipstream, any version will do. To install, need SP1 or higher. Per MS XPSP3 white paper.
  9. Dude! What windows messenger are we talking about??? The Windows Messenger appearing with that funny looking icon is NOT the same windows messenger that is used for chatting, IM'ing. That is totally different. As you can see from image below, the msmsgs does not refer to Windows Messenger used for instant messenging.
  10. Here's my way: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shell] [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shell\Expand] @="Expand" "extended"="" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shell\Expand\command] @="expand -r \"%1\" %cd%" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shell\Makecab] @="Makecab" "extended"="" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shell\Makecab\command] @="makecab \"%1\"" It's essentially the same except I add the "extended"="" so that I would have to press Shift and then right-click in order to see these commands. Otherwise they are hidden. Thus, it eliminates the messy right-click menu.
  11. it won't crash. it'll probably find the first max value and display that.
  12. I have no problems in a user account with admin privileges.
  13. would you ever have two values that are the same? for example, two 12's. if so, then this wouldn't work.
  14. In order to slipstream, you can use any - no SP, SP1, or SP2. - This is based on personal experience. In order to install on an online XP, you need at least SP1. This is per white paper found here: Windows XP SP3 Overview
  15. cool
  16. it might be your graphics card driver. update your driver and see if it works. this is the solution provided my ms (i don't recall where). it's worked for me. also, see if it's your usb keyboard or mouse. disable them being able to wake computer from sleep - that has fixed the proble also.
  17. my sister bought a new hp laptop and it does the same since the beginning. stupid vista. how can it have a good battery life if the hdd is accessed all the time?!!? anyway, i will try the solutions mentioned above.
  18. You really didn't provide any details of exactaly what you did or provide your system configuration details. How many HDD? How many partitions? How did you recover windows? Did you recover vista or install xp? Whatever you do, if you can see your partition in ubuntu, i'd back up the data before venturing on.
  19. I would also like to know how to do this.
  20. Woah! that's a lot for RAM, especially 333 MHz. Alway check online - it's always cheaper. I agree with newegg.com. RAM is getting cheaper and cheaper.
  21. seems to be your .exe file extension is screwed up since right-clicking on powerdvd.exe doesn't give you option to run as administrator. will have to check when i get home what the registry values are. in meantime, check your registry's .exe and see if it's missing or values are blank or something.
  22. It takes a period of time because it is generating thumbnails for all of your pics. The more the pictures, the longer it will take.
  23. I don't understand your rationale that with a fast enough CPU and a relative slow HDD, compression will speed up the computer????? That's simply ridiculous. As the above two posts mention, your system will slow down! Besides if you are convinced that it will speed up, why would you shoot down tripredacus's reply?
  24. Microsoft is stalling its release. They know that as soon as SP3 comes out, Vista demand will plummet. They want to drive everyone to Vista SP1; so they have to stall SP3 as long as they can.
  25. The newest AnyDVD HD by Slysoft now supports hi-def Blu-ray backup to hard drive.
