  1. No one knows where the uninstall files are stored for Office updates? They have to be stored somewhere as you have an option to uninstall them in Add/Remove Programs.
  2. Probably need to run it with admin privileges. Try right-clicking and do "run as administrator". are you using an administrator account?
  3. well, using font substitution is not the way to change system fonts because it gets substituted everywhere and that font will be unavailable for printing in word processors. i hope it helped your purpose.
  4. So far, it looks great! Fast also from what I've noticed. But we'll have to see it extensions can fill the void. I would use Chrome more often but it doesn't support Roboform as of yet. I have almost a hundred passwords saved in Roboform. No roboform support = no chrome as main browser. Hopefully, either Google or Roboform come up with a solution to allow roboform.
  5. I previously had Windows XP SP2 installed, then installed SP3 over it. I had no sleep issues. Now, I have clean installed XP SP3 slipstreamed with some updates nlited. I removed some components with nLite; see below. I'm having problem waking up the display after resuming from sleep. Only difference in my SP2 install and SP3 install is that in SP2, I didn't install the Intel Chipset Drivers because I had trouble with my USB not working if I did. With SP3, this wasn't a problem so I installed it. All drivers are up-to-date. Even the display drivers are up-to-date. I've tried checking and unchecking power management for USB devices and still display doesn't come back on. What else can I do? 7. You can install segoe ui in xp. it's not just for vista. you might be violating some license though. anyway, why would you substitute arial, times new roman, etc with segoe ui? go to display properties, appearance tab, click on advanced. click on the various menus and change the font to segoe ui. done. Unsure how it's done with reg tweaks although i have it somewhere as i have changed it in my bartpe cd. if you need it, let me know and i can provide it sometime.
  8. I've had some bad luck trying to get version 3.0.25.378 to run on Virtual Box and it will not run. The icon is there in system tray but I cann't access it by double click. Nor will the program load from start menu. Phewy! I didn't have a problem in VPC 2007. Anyone found a reason why yet?
  9. Just wanted to share, in case someone didn't know, you can use hard drives created by Virtual PC in the format .VHD with virtual box. When you go to add a hard drive in VBox, just select to view all file types, then select the VHD. Then add it to your virtual machine and it will be auto mounted as the next drive letter! You can even add a VHD with an OS installed on it and it will run. I just ran an installation of XP that was installed using VPC 2007 SP1 and it ran okay when I mounted the VHD in VBox. The only thing is you'll get prompted to add drivers for system hardware. I haven't messed with that as much. However, if you have a data VHD, then it works great!
  10. Recommend you download SP3 from here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;DisplayLang=en and run it. Don't worry that it's for IT professionals. Also, probably not necessary to turn off firewall/antivirus. I installed with Comodo Firewall and McAfee Antivirus and had no problems.
  11. IE8 still has some annoying features that are present in IE7. One that I can't stand is when copying text from a code box, if you "triple-click", then it selects the whole box and not just the line like in Firefox. IE8 beta 2 is turning out to be great but I'm not sure if I can give up Firefox and the extensions of firefox make it so much more easier to use. If you like the colored tabs in IE8 and want the same functionality in Firefox, try this extension: Tab Kit.
  12. Download the new beta 2 Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2. They have introduced some great new features like color coded tabs that are grouped together. That can be done in firefox with some extensions, but it's built-in to IE8. Improved search. Hummm, Firefox is still the best with a wide extensions availability.
  13. You probably just need to refresh your icon cache. try doing repair icons with tweakui. sometimes that solves the icon problem. otherwise, try searching for that key in the users as mentioned by ascii2. one more suggestion, from any windows explorer windows, go to folder options, then file types tab, then find your file type and delete it.
  14. CHIPS CLIPS SLIPS SLOPS SLOPE STOPE (humm, i must look this one up) STOPS
  15. The information to add tabs in there, you missed it: <customUI xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/office/2006/01/customui"> <ribbon> <tabs> <tab id="XXX" label="XXX"> <group id="XXX" label="XXX"> <button id="XXX" label="XXX" /> </group> </tab> </tabs> </ribbon> </customUI> Where id is the ID you want to give your new tab. idMso are builtin tabs.
  16. If it persisted, then it means the uninstaller is buggy. Open regedit.exe. Then go to the key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.java. There, it will tell you under (default), what program is associated with that file. Go to that key and delete it. I would back it up first in case you need to undo. For example, I use Ultraiso to open .ISO files. So, when I go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.iso, it says under data column for (default) Ultraiso. I can go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\UltraISO and delete it and it will get rid of .iso association with ultraiso.
  17. I believe your D: drive is a partition on the same drive, right? If so, go to disk management console and choose to make your vista partition and make it active. then, when you install vista (which you will have to reinstall), it should pick up that partition as your C: partition, AFAIK.
  18. So you said you downloaded it but did you install it? This sounds like a stupid question but I just wanted to make sure as you only have 1 post here and I'm not sure what level of experience you have. Personally, I use Combined Community Codec Pack. If you google it, you'll find the download site. Install it and it will play your videos. But there are others like k-lite..
  19. it works for me. however, it requires a refresh - like closing explorer windows and restarting them. it's really hard to make it toggle, but i know that you're not trying to toggle it but have it applied during setup. beats me!
  20. I mean during the nLite integration process; not during the actual xp install.
  21. Yeah, it just seems like you need a fresh reinstall. Also, now I see that in your 5th post, the 24 gb is not the total capacity of your hard drive but it represents the used space. That means you have 70 - 24 = 46 gb free. So question is, where is it reported that you only have 5 gb free? Right click on C: drive and post your properties page here. If it is indeed showing only 5 gb free, definitely you got a lot of residual junk in your system and fresh install recommended for a faster system.
  22. It means you got your registry tweak wrong. You need to set SuperHidden to 0 and ShowSuperHidden to 1 if you want to see hidden system files. If not, set SuperHidden to 1 and ShowSuperHidden to 0. The values are opposite of each other, not the same. Applying this manually, you'll see that these values change as I mentioned. Beats me why there are two entries are changed when doing one thing.
  23. Also might be nice to provide info on when this all started - like you installed xxx and now yyy is happening or I visited site xxx (i'm sure it wasn't really xxx) and now yyy won't work.
