thats the problem, OS is already installed and system uses those reg key(s) which are locked with XP/serv2003 you could open registry hive and add things, then insert it back to install cd directory and shove it back to ISO dunno if Vista/7 can do the same, try google basicaly your goal is to already package modified registry hive with changes, instead applying changes after/or during install

turning off indexer and superfetch will most likely save you HDD trashing and RAM eating turning off DWM/aero will speed up responsivness of any window/app but have in mind that some services are tied to others (firewall and updates are dependant on one or more other, so is system performance motinoring and other bunch) think that even vLite tells you that also as said up, visit black viper webpage, there are detailed descriptions there for services
