  1. I thought that the tabs were "multiple documents", a "single" document has not "many tabs", I am not understanding what you mean then, can you take a screenshot and post it? jaclaz
  2. See also: http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/175073-system-has-heart-attack-with-usb-stick/ Cleaning the whole USB database might be a good idea. jaclaz
  3. Not strictly IOT related, but "close enough": http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/2443276/wtf-lenovo-protects-your-backdoor-security-with-a-really-really-really-bad-password You may want to take note of the statement by the good Lenovo guys: (bolding/highlighting is mine) jaclaz
  4. The "voting" system is detailed here (JFYI): http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/128378-hardware-changes-and-windows-activation/ http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/128378-hardware-changes-and-windows-activation/?p=827471 jaclaz
  5. What about closing Word and re-opening it? jaclaz
  6. Sorry can't do, I need to use the hot seat to fry some downloaded fishes, I got 'em through Torrent and they do smell fishy however. jaclaz
  7. Naah, just trying to give some - by comparison with what the good Apple guys do - relief to the good MS guys that put together the crappy OS and to their executives that are trying to impose the one-size-fits-all paradigm to end users. The "new paradigm" is the same, "we are doing this (possibly without telling you exactly what it is or without telling you at all about the *whatever change* at hand) because we know better than you and it is for your own good, and still for your own good we are removing from you any possibility to control this *feature*". jaclaz
  8. Try booting disabling Aeroglass (keep pressed CTRL key while booting) more here: http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/171692-how-to-uninstall-aero-glass-for-win-81/ jaclaz
  9. Your thought is highly accurate . Though the use of a "clean room" by the pro's is overrated (and often downright "invented", as in most cases, like 99.99% what is used is actually a laminar flow bench/cabinet/hood ) opening hard disk in a normal room is a pretty guaranteed way to have the hard disk cease to work. @dabome Rule #1 of hard disk recovery club is: "You do not open a hard disk." Rule #2 of hard disk recovery club is: "You DO NOT open a hard disk." Rule #3 is "Ok, we lied, you can open it, but ONLY in a controlled environment." Unfortunately you can't do anything to fix that hard disk, and now that you have opened it, likely there is nothing that can be done for it, not even by a professional. jaclaz
  10. Naah, and noone even thought of garage sales ... jaclaz
  11. For the usual OT (Off Topic ) meanwhile in Cupertino ... ... little, minor, trifling, things that should however *somehow* trigger an alarm ... The Scourge (or Beauty) of “Snap To Road” with iPhone Location-Tracking Apps http://regex.info/blog/2015-12-03/2651 More Details on the Insidious iOS Snap-to-Road “Feature” http://regex.info/blog/2016-01-19/2666 jaclaz
  12. Well, I meant downloading as opposed to catching, with the same frying afterwards, though you are right, fish downloaded from FTP tend to have a slight mud aftertaste . jaclaz
  13. Well, Qemu (Qemu Manager) can have the date set in an "arbitrary manner", issue may be if the .vhd (actually the drivers installed in it) can be adapted to work in it. I am not too sure about this but I seem to remember that I used that "test IE" in Qemu some time ago, though of course the "XP mode" one would be anyway easier to use . jaclaz
  14. Yep, those are the two little apps, but more generally if you (or the tools you use) limit yourself to a definite area of the Registry (such as the USB subsystem and related) in the very worst case it will be a matter of re-installing a few USB drivers, the only issue may come if you have a USB keyboard and mouse and you delete/remove the corresponding entries (which however are outside the "USBSTOR" related areas), but nothing that won't be fixed automatically at next reboot. jaclaz
  15. Slightly OT (but not much) recent versions of the MS compilers are preset to put in the buiilt PE a minimum OS version (Major and Minor) 6.0. The net result is that tools that can otherwise be run fine in 5.0 or 5.1 do not run and show: "This program is not a valid Win32 application." It is always worth to try using CFF explorer or similar to change the minimum OS version in the PE executable and see what happens, example: http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/173265-formatting-an-external-drive-using-different-interfaces/?p=1092453 jaclaz
  16. Is it still usable, even so? I have no idea , but I believe that - for the use the OP asked it for - he can reset the time/date of the VM and prevent it form connecting to the internet/time servers. jaclaz
  17. Sure, they would do, though a bit of caution may be needed, there are so many reports of these "second hand" being "fake" or "couterfeit" that you need to pay some attention (and also be a bit lucky) in order to get the "real" thing. See also this thread: http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/174719-win7-available-unattended-programs/ AFAIK the "upgrade version" made sense at the time because it was sold at a discount price, but the "normal" or "full" version should be able to use the "upgrade" option as well: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/help/upgrading-from-windows-vista-to-windows-7#T1=tab01 jaclaz
  18. And should the answer to that question be "Yes", please be VERY aware of Rule #1.a : http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?app=forums&module=extras&section=boardrules and how that one is rather strictly enforced on the board. jaclaz
  19. Yep , that was the OP question, it was you that "added" how it would be not suitable to create an install CD/DVD, something that would be completely outside the original question. jaclaz
  20. Sometimes a good cleaning of the Registry (the USBSTOR database in it) is needed to get things "fully operational" again. See: http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/157408-usb-connectdisconnect-delay/ jaclaz
  21. Correction: naughty, naughty and unable to use a proxy. jaclaz
  22. For today's "who said this", try guessing who said: jaclaz
  23. Slightly OT and nothing really to worry about, still ... http://hexatomium.github.io/2015/08/29/why-is-windows/ jaclaz
  24. Happy being useful . Now, not really IOT related, but close enough , an address where you don't really want to live in Atlanta http://fusion.net/story/214995/find-my-phone-apps-lead-to-wrong-home/ jaclaz
