O&O *DOES* defrag the MFT. (I'm pretty sure it's been doing that for a LONG time too) Metadata is hardly an issue imho. Which one is best can't really be decided by polls, nor just features alone. I think the main 2 things are: -How well it defrags -How fast it defrags Then after that perhaps stability, GUI and such come in play too...

Doesn't matter, there will always be n00bs to vote NAV 200x for they don't know any better

Nvidia equivalent to All-In-Wonder?
CoffeeFiend replied to Professor Frink's topic in Hardware Hangout
1) I've never heard of any AIW problems with Dells, and I can't see any reason why it wouldn't work. 2) You're looking for a GeForce with VIVO (Video In Video Out), there are lots. (Perhaps they've been renamed to personal cinema? I dunno, I don't buy nVidia stuff anymore) You could also go the TV Tuner/Capture card way... Generic BT8x8 tv tuners are cheap, or you can get into fancier things if you plan to use your PC as a PVR some day -
Remove desktop shortcuts command please?
CoffeeFiend replied to Wedge1's topic in Application Installs
Either del "%UserProfile%\desktop\program.lnk" or del "%AllUsersProfile%\desktop\program.lnk" depending on the case... I'm sure a search would have found that As for the switches (/S /Q and others) try del /? at the command prompt... -
It's the same as I got. Should work fine.
-
Odd, -y /q /r:n is working just fine here... Just tested it

The best thing to do: don't let it choose. It's the only part of my setup that isn't automated so you can pick where you want it installed (delete/create partitions or whatever you want to, then pick one to install onto)

Released yesterday! Quote from their website: Get it here (Note: not all mirrors seem to work)

Don't know what you mean by "latest version", the 1.1 beta? I'm using 1.02 and it works flawlessly.

Norton IS 2005 or PC-Cillin IS 2005?
CoffeeFiend replied to totoymola's topic in Application Installs
Anything has got to be better than NIS, but sometimes you wonder if there should be a 3rd poll option: "neither". -
@mentalindustrie that's how it works for ANALOG cable, not digital! @Brantr: don't quote me on this, but I believe your tv tuner isn't compatible. As for changing the channels, your MCE remote's base/reeceiver has a IR blaster. You connect the output of your set top box to your capture card (thru s-video or else composite) It just sucks having digital content delivered to your house thru cable or satellite, and having to degrade quality a LOT by making it analog and back to digital again, and to add insult to injury - needing an overpriced tv tuner to capture the crappy 480i stuff in low quality. I've given up on that a while ago, just not worth your time. MCE has a lot of issues, and limitations and annoyances (and so does all the other PVRs). Your best bet would be getting either a cable or satellite digital box which is also a PVR (if your provider offers it) by far imho. At least it captures digitally (NO quality loss at all, much unlike analog capturing), doesn't BSOD (no need to tell your family - "just a sec, gotta reboot the tv!"), nothing to setup, no need for IR blasters or any of that BS - it just works and does it well.

ICS is to share an internet connection thru a PC with 2 network cards. It's not required by this or other PCs to see each other.

There's lots of differences between 2003 and XP. Not just in features but also in their implementation. IIS 6 is one major difference (IIS 5.1 is rather limited), LOTS of network services (DNS, DHCP...), media services, ... ... ie: server stuff. Not much if you just want a system to play games onto. (not my case at all) I mean, try using XP as a terminal server, Active Directory or even better, try running dcpromo on it There's also major differences in what will run (reliably?) on them - even if it's not a "feature" per se, ie: the only edition of SQL server that will run on XP is the developper ed (not the enterprise version anyways), same goes for most server apps (like ISA server, exchange and such) Their purposes and the way they are configured are rather different by default as well... Scalability isn't quite the same either. 2003 comes more "locked down" by default as well... There are tons of differences, that was just off the top of my head Hope it clears things up a bit

I'm not sure what actual installer you're using here. The easiest thing to do is: extract it, and run the msi files instead. Works flawlessly and it's very simple. There's tons of threads about how to do it...

It's very easy and the OS doesn't matter. -Do a clean install of your OS (and drivers and maybe a few small apps) -Use any cloning utility such as norton ghost (some motherboards come with a version of it bundled...) and make an image of it -Make a win98se boot floppy, which will have mscdex on it, have it look thru the drives for ghost.exe (or whatever app you're using) and launch it with the proper command line to restore your disk -burn a bootable cd with floppy emulation and ghost + image on the CD. Let it copy the floppy itself or floppy image (winimage is a great app to play around with floppy images) The whole restore process should be something like 3 minutes or so. Works great.

Connectix was bought by M$ (hey, it's not like they got enough skills to make a VM by themselves ) -
I've always used /S and never had any problems or popups, it's fully silent

I hesitate between voting "I'm lost" or "who cares about Acer laptops anyways?"

shockwave,flash7,msnmessenger6,java,klite codec?
CoffeeFiend replied to P1R4T3's topic in Application Installs
I'd have to go with bucketbuster's answer on your cross post ... -
It depends on the program, installer, the way you make it install and such... We kinda need to know more
-
Not all DVD drives support booting from DVDs
-
64 bit CPUs have nothing to do with it whatsoever... There is a lot more to it than trying to get an old format/interface to use the new hardware while staying compatible with the older stuff by just a firmware update... It just isn't that simple.

shockwave,flash7,msnmessenger6,java,klite codec?
CoffeeFiend replied to P1R4T3's topic in Application Installs
You don't slipstream them, you make them install silently/unattended after the windows install using things like GUIRunOnce or RunOnceEx. -
If BIOS sees it well but the OS doesn't (not sure what SP is on it) bad things may happen... If it's SP2 as well, it might be worth a try.
