  1. A06 is the latest BIOS for it, but they don't state if it works with 48bit LBA. Google didn't really find anything about it either, and I'm guessing it's some sort of Dell's own motherboard... Kinda hard guessing. If the enclosure only sees it as 128/137GB, then it's the controller's fault in the enclosure. make sure the enclosure supports drives beyond that size... @djbe: it's a matter of having the BIOS and OS support it... Don't resize it if both don't support it. 48 bit is definately plenty. I don't think anyone can foresee a limitation here. That allows for drives 256 times larger already (ie: 32768 GB!). 48 bit must have been a lot easier to implement as well (as updates on current hardware and protocols) than 64 bit.
  2. Uh, my point is, I *don't* need it. And detecting very specific cards is an easy thing to do as well... I don't have anything to send. Interface or not, I think there's just too many easy ways to do it, like do we really need a 6th or 7th method for this? ...
  3. You mean, compatible with it? ATA133/SATA controllers are fine (it's part of the spec). Doesn't mean older stuff doesn't work, but not all does... I had to upgrade some BIOSes (even on some RAID cards) Your OS also has to support it (XP SP2 does) If you got a drive over 137GB and it sees more than that, than you're fine
  4. Recognizes correctly? That hardly means anything. As in "it sees it"? That's doesn't mean it supports it. What size does it show as in the BIOS (if you make it detect it)? Or even better, what motherboard is it?
  5. Say, you use a enterprise server OS and don't know about file and printer sharing? Make sure the service is installed in control panel > network connections Then after you should be able to create new shares like Zuig mentionned (in some cases, firewall settings could interfere, and some security policies might need tweaking...)

  7. Must be your BIOS that doesn't support 48 bit LBA. Perhaps look into if there's any BIOS updates for your motherboard.
  8. Firefox isn't one of those easy to repack simple apps. It's a lot easier to just make it install silently. SiMoNsAyS has made a guide. (it doesn't *need* be thing complex/in depth mind you... It's rather quick/easy really) @Kurt476 - Buddy, you made 136 posts in 5 days of being suscribed!! Lots of your posts are getting closed (I don't think moderators are being happy about that either), and most could be avoided by either searching, or doing some reading (or "learning" a bit). There's plenty of guides on how to do this, the repackaging apps come with manuals, guides and what not. I'm sure you'd find more by searching on the foums and the net too. Realize that as much as you want to get this done and over with right now, it's just not gonna happen. You gotta search, find things on your own, learn how to deal with certain things... You can't just ask about everything over and over again, hoping someone will answer it all for you, premake all your scripts or such. This will be a long journey, it will take time (most of us have been working on this for weeks or months), a few things won't be easy. You'll have to learn a lot, try a lot of things, do mistakes and learn from them. It DOES require some dedication, efforts and trying hard to get there. We can't hand you all the command lines, all the settings and explain everything. Sometimes, you just have find out for yourself. And like Alanoll's signature says: English isn't that hard of a language (It's not my primary language either). If anyone was to go over your posts, they'd wouldn't need a dictionnary or anything to find out lots of pretty obvious syntax/grammar problems. No, I'm not a moderator but let's use some common sense. I think most people agree with this... And again, don't take this personally, it's not meant to be a personnal attack or anything like that...
  9. Sometimes, the installer sucks, and I'm too lazy to repack.   10. eMachines' website says what's in the box. They don't seem to have a list of (outdated) drivers to download, but once you know the hardware...
  11. IIS does not have to be activated (like the topic suggests), but you will need the proper CD to install it (your NT4 disc won't work). Otherwise, there's always Apache::ASP left I suppose.
  12. Maybe the ram you added isn't good or doesn't match well. Or it could be Win ME or that AV (let me guess - norton?)

  14. Honestly, I don't see much of a use for it. We already had came up with several (like a half dozen) easy methods that work reliably for detecting video card type to install proper drivers. One of them was using vbscript/WMI too... Noo need to maintain XML files or anything either. If it did detect chipsets though then I'd definately use it (Not super hard to code, but it's a lot of work to maintain lists...)
  15. It does have a big impact. The 16x DVD reads a lot faster. That makes windows itself copy a lot faster (in that textmode setup). No doubts about it. As for the apps, either 1) You got all your apps in $OEM$ or; 2) You install it from the disc In case of 1, they will be copied a lot quicker to the HD (even though they are ran from the HD after, why anyone would want to do it that way is beyond me). Copying a couple GB worth of apps from CD or DVD will make a good difference for sure. In case 2, the installers are read a lot faster from the disc too... Either ways, all that data has to be read from the drive, and one drive is a lot faster. Also, there's more space (about 6x as much) - more space also means less disc swapping, less time spent installing apps separately, less of a need to sqeeze every single bit you can off the disc, less time to prepare the disc - less hassle overall. It's just better overall, but some ppl still don't have DVD burners (DL DVD writers can be had for like 50$ now) or DVD drives in all their PCs so they're stuck with CDs...

Not to mention, if it wanted to pick insafe or "potentially dangerous" apps, it forgot to find and delete the most dangerous one that gets all that spyware on your PC in the first place: IE I'd much rather see that one gone than my other software which is actually useful. If it wasn't for windows update, there would be no sign of it on my pc...

  20. I just tried it for the first time - and it also will be the last. It seems to detect every app that *could* possibly bundle adware as adware itself. Like, my registered FlashGet is detected as a "elevated" spyware threat, when in fact it's not a threat at all... (a few occurences of that) Another big problem: every remote control app you have will be reported too. Dameware, VNC (diff versions too), RAdmin, ... you name it, it's all spyware now! Plus, it's super slow, big bulky interface, kinda backwards... Don't care for it. Plus, it's a memory hog (over 20MB). No more of that for me thanks. I'm staying with my old spy sweeper / spybot / ad aware trio (Plus, since I use Firefox and not IE - I hardly ever get any spyware anymore...)
  21. I don't use themes at all whatsoever. I despise them. But, you are lacking services I use daily, and from seeing your start menu, there's nothing in there to use... I'm not in favor or bloat by any means, but how good is it to have just the shell? My install DVD is almost full (and it takes quite a lot on the HD), but I can actually do stuff with it (other than staring at a blank shell, that is). It might be fine if it's a standalone PC and that you're not doing much with it I guess... Either ways, it's stripped a lot (like anybody can with nLite), but it has nothing to do with being organized...
  22. There's a bunch of 3rd party apps that do similar things. It's a good idea, but the implementation and way it work sucks imho (not just MCE). Analog capturing 480i stuff instead of using a VCR (or PVR'ing...) was "hot" 10 years ago...

  24. If you use IE, you don't even have to do that. They'll find their very own way onto your system without having to do anything No need to look for it
