mozilla comprehensive registry keys
CoffeeFiend replied to prathapml's topic in Application Installs
That's the exact same way I used to install Firefox 0.9.3 (Ok, a couple minor differences, I was importing the uninstall info too and other minor things). But it's so easy making a unattended installer (change setup.exe and edit a couple lines in a ini file), and even then, SiMoNsAyS' installer rocks. I don't see any practical advantage of using this method anymore. (Other than perhaps using optimized binaries or special cases?) But I guess it's nice to have more options... (and personally, I much prefer importing the .reg files than using .inf conversions - but that's mostly a matter of preferences I guess) -
What did you see at winamp's site? Or didn't you get the news last week? ... They might make something else, but it won't be winamp (they can't make a 100% clone either of course). Faith or not... I still have v5.05 and that will do for a long time
-
Yep, Basic is 100% free, and no catches. Too bad winamp is pretty much dead now
-
Not only you cannot download it, but there is no way to "integrate it" or anything like that from 2003's files. Agreed, IIS 5.1 is rather crippled, it's good enough for a testing server, but that's about it. IIS 6 alone is a good reason to have 2003 on your real server (there's many others too).

...and the funny thing is, the big reason why I put WinDVD near last on my list is just because of that (pic qual). WMP10 (or whatever version) is actually completely irrelevant... PowerDVD wise, it's not the best, but it's most certainly better than WinDVD imho.

It is VERY simple to do, and your router is no harder than any other one I ever came across. As for your current screenshots. You might as well delete them all - that's not at all where it's configured. First things first: Your "server", is is setup to use DHCP to get IP or on static IP? If it's not setup on static IP, you can use that LAN>DHCP>Static Address Assignment to make it get a static one from the DHCP server in the router too... If you don't do that, then eventually your server's private IP will change and it won't work anymore. As for using a port from the WAN side access a server on your LAN on a speficic port (which is what you want to do), this is called "Port Forwarding" (and this is very basic networking... it just doesn't get any simpler than that, I wonder why someone who doesn't know these very simple basics would bother answering on that Q...). So the ONLY screenshot you should have posted is that one screen: LAN>Port Forwarding. Actually, you should not have to post it anyways. Go there, enter your incoming port (what you want "visible" to the outside world), destination IP (the one of your server, and port if it has that option). It's all there is to it - that simple. I bet even google'ing for "port forwarding" would find you a thousand times more infos than what you need... Again, running a dyndns client or something similar is always a good thing to look into (unless you're on static IP and that you can remember the IP...)

If you look around (search) you will find a nice silent .net fw 1.1 sp1 installer on this forum. No switches needed or anything.

can you recommand video capture soft that i can...
CoffeeFiend replied to kurt476's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
I don't think software itself is your main issue here. With a PC with those specs, I'd rather be looking into a card that does hardware encoding like the PVR250 (lots of software supports it too) I'm so glad I don't do analog capturing anymore... As far as VHS tapes go, it's even worse to capture (especially if it's older/worn out tapes as the sync pulses can be weak/missing), in which case you can look into other (and usually more expensive) alternatives. -
Considering your post is dated from the 15th (and the situation has changed a bit now), I'll add my take on it. Best - still ZP with whatever filters you want (I'm still a fan of NvDVD 4 + ffdshow raw processing/scaling over anything else, and some cool DX filters for audio too) Next best: PowerDVD 6. CLEV 2 is nice to watch FS stuff (I hate it) on WS displays, and it's a decent decoder too. (that's about my only use for it or reason why I'll bother with it) Next: Theathertek 2 (uses NvDVD 4 filters) Then comes WinDVD 6 (actually, I even preferred the old PowerDVD 5 and the Sonic filters over it... So I'm still being "generous" towards it) - and that's providing you modified the installer to not be stuck with the interactual POS.

Pointing devices on Laptop: TrackPoint or TouchPad
CoffeeFiend replied to army20's topic in The Poll Center
I'll usually hook up a real mouse (or trackball, and a nice big keyboard is space is available or if there's a KVM switch around), otherwise, touchpad. -
But that's not an easter egg, it's just the default texture. It's normal behavior.

All of these posts are false - except the hotkey combination to win in solitaire (that has probably been around since win 3.1, I know for a fact it works in 2k at least) and a couple midly amusing resources in a couple DLLs (like lots of programs do), but even then none of that are actual "easter eggs"... Other sites refer as c:\windows\clock.avi as one (uh? leftovers since win95) or 0.log (an actual log file) - that's not easter eggs by any means either. They'd be amazed to see all these other files in C:\Windows Otherwise they mention the old office easter eggs as if office = windows...

Now THAT was funny of you (as usual - you always make us laugh). You're not touching egos, you make us laugh with unfounded points, defying logic, and now claims of "using FF makes someone a " bigoted, unthinking moron" (I guess being ignorant wasn't enough). We'll just take your word for it, just because you say so

-Most spyware scanners would remove it (spysweeper and others) -A good AV would most likely remove it too (like kaspsersky) Or you could remove the registry entries and delete the files by hand and all that - but if you're asking how to, then perhaps that's not the way you want to take. And if you got a bunch of dialers on your PC, chances are you got a lot more junk on it (spyware, trojans, backdoors and what not), and again, a good spyware scanner + AV will help with that. And my guess is - you use IE (and that's how you got infected with all that junk), so you can consider using Firefox instead... And upgrading to SP2 if you haven't done so yet (a basic firewall couldn't hurt either if you don't use one)

Like putting a brand new coat of pain on a rusty old 1970 Lada and calling it a Mercedes

Yes the tiny surface mount components are required, so it's dead. It shouldn't be too expensive to replace, espcially if you can find a used stick of ram.

Tested - and NOT working (yes, I did try rebooting and everything). And the .reg file is missing the header btw. As it was pointed out before too, importing HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects and the like does NOT work. @maxXPsoft: I'd be curious to see your pick on this one... See if it works As for the vb6 app, I would rather have a vbscript to do it, but it works... The only other way I could see, is importing proper reg at cmdlines.txt like such (have not tested yet) and then it would apply to all users which might not be what you want.

Winamp now does video too (mind you I wouldn't use either for that, they don't compare to a decent video player like ZP and many others) . And winamp has a lot of stuff you won't get with JetAudio. Not like I can use my plugins (MuchFX, DFX 7, RockSteady, Adapt-X, and visualizations and other misc plugins and what not) with it... @Tarun: Thanks for sharing

Major Graphics Flaw Threatens Windows PCs
CoffeeFiend replied to Synapse's topic in Networks and the Internet
Yep, old news, but now the code to use the exploit is widely available, so chances of it being used are higher... -
nod32 vs. kaspersky per. pro.
CoffeeFiend replied to boflynn's topic in Malware Prevention and Security
There are much better and much more "overall" testing than this site. This site tests an AV for a specific month on a different platform. (a month they pick XP, a month they pick 2003, a month they pick netware, redhat, NT 4... And there are far more than just 100 "wild" viruses a good AV should be tested for reliably). Every other comparison I've seen put Kaspersky at the top of the list, and usually NOD32 is a few positions behind. Other test sites don't show NOD32 as anywhere near this good. Like, look at Schadenfroh's link. If you believe it can reliably scan 28.6GB of data in 3m13s (that's a scan rate of over 150mb/sec - more than your HD can do)... It has to cut corners, and it can't possibly even have peeked inside archives. I don't trust it. Also, detection rates for kaspersky aren't just good (or the best) for most win32 style viruses, but it's also the best in all other categories (dialers, worms, backdoors, trojans, and other scum) and I see a *LOT* of that all the time, and that's part of where kaspersky shines too. I'm not saying it's a bad product (hey, anything's better than norton stuff ) but I can't quite see it as being better than kaspersky. -
Ignorant for liking a overall all-around much better browser (doesn't even compare)? No, saying that WAS truly ignorant of you.
-
Exactly! I also answered in your other post (I'm guessing it wasn't intentionnal). Update to SP2 already (and keep up to date on patches) Use a half decent AV (I don't like norton stuff either) Use at least a basic firewall (even the basic WinXP firewall is better than none...) Spyware scanners can't hurt either And if you still use IE, consider Firefox... (most likely, you'll want to download the sun java vm too as the crappy m$ one was removed after SP1) Then you shouldn't be having issues of that kind anymore
-
Update to SP2 (or at the very least apply blaster patches). That RPC DCOM exploit was fixed back in june (almost 6 months ago), so you should be updating more often. As for the SAV/NAV, if you really like it keep it, but I certainly don't recommend it. Also a good firewall wouldn't hurt.
-
That's a lot better than foobar2000 or iTunes imho, but still not quite Winamp (as far as audio files go, video wise, it doesn't rank my fav players) . Even if development stops, I doubt I'll ever stop using it. Winamp ROCKS!
