  1. I had a similar problem long time before I started with nLite. I'll be short: after a short time I had to replace my sound card. I hope for your sake this is not your problem, but it's something you may have to consider.
  2. This is normal. The way to verify is to do this: If you have a patch installed on your PC, find the version of the new file installed and then on your virtual install find the same file to check that it has the same version. It's the same with me; in Add/Remove Programs there is only the Windows Media Runtime 11, while the other 30 patches don't show; they are directly integrated, since nLite unpacks the patches and copies the new file directly over the older version.
  3. COuld you please send your Last_Session.ini so we can see the process?
  4. Really confusing, because it's usually enough to put the patches by order of KB numbers and to be careful to add IE and then IE updates or WMPlayer and then WMP updates. Please send results of any other tests you are running.
  5. Never use the same source twice; always start with a new copy of your CD. Are you to make a new nlited XP with every patch, one at a time? That looks like a lot of work. Another question: do you have problems with NDP35SP1-KB958484-x86.exe? That's .NET Framework 3.5 SP1, I'm not sure if nLite can slipstream it. A little help here, pleaseeeee.
  6. Env = 1.4.1 - 2.0.50727.1433.Microsoft Windows NT 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3 Target = Windows XP Home Edition SP3 - 5.1.2600.5512 - Italiano (Italia) Are you using the latest version of nLite? That would avoid a lot of bugs for sure.
  7. I can't tell you the answer to your question, but I noticed 2 things in your last_session.ini: 1. you include Microsoft_UAA_Bus_Driver_for_High_Definition_Audio. I'm pretty sure it's included in Service Pack 3 for WinXP; I use the same UAA driver, so I was interested in that. 2. Target = Windows XP Professional SP3 - 5.1.2600.5503; the version I have is 5.1.2600.5512. Someone else will say if this makes a difference.
  8. KB905474 and KB892130 are for validation and I think they are available as addons, but they will NOT show your copy of Windows as genuine (hope you don't have problems with this). "b4 i can view the updates some genuine validation thing again!!" Are you talking about Windows Update? About windowsupdateagent.exe, I tried to install it on my computer and it said all the files are already there; I'm guessing it's mostly for use on servers working with multiple workstations. Hope this helped, if not, please be a bit more specific

    silent vs wpi

It's all up to the user. This forum is probably not the best place for this question.
  10. You could always install it through Run Once with a silent switch, usually -s for Install Shield. HERE is detailed information on how to create a silent install in this way. BTW, I downloaded the driver to check it out and couldn't extract it. What did you use (for me WinRar usually works)?
  11. See RyanVM's forum HERE for example, if you have Service pack 3. Could you also please tell me which updates you can't download? See also HERE for manual download of hotfixes one-at-a-time.
  12. One way to check your own switches is also described in the Unattended Guide and it works for me 90% of the cases, and that is to run the program from the Command Prompt with a /? parameter. If not, another part of the forums talks a lot about switches for specific programs, and using search has helped me a lot as well. Cheers
  13. This will help you with the .msi installers "http://unattended.msfn.org/unattended.xp/view/web/42/" Concerning the addons, all that I've used so far are installed during windows installation (about 13 minutes before the end of the setup) and do not require user intervention, so Yes, they were silent, to answer your question.
  14. I've also noticed it, and you can also find it in the Registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Updates\Windows XP, where it keeps records of all updates . I guess this is some way in which XP keeps track of all updates after SP3. But I wouldn't be too optimistic. Just look at this situation: The new Office package has been postponed for indefinite, there are updates for Office 2007, but almost nothing for Office 2003. I still like wishful thinking, though. Cheers, Sp0iLedBrAt
  15. I only said that because Microsoft had two announcements; the first was they would stop support in April 2009 (although I wouldn't mind that this is prolonged forever hehe) and the second that starting May 2009 there is Windows 7 RC, making XP somewhat obsolete, and Vista unnecessary; see HERE .
  16. First of all, Microsoft made it pretty clear that SP3 was the last one and they're stopping official support. Next, I'm not sure you will get for example Calculator again if you removed it before, but I know that SP3 upgraded the version of Internet Explorer you have on your computer at the moment (not to a new version, like 6 to 7), so upgraded existing elements. However, they ARE cumulative update packs, and I wouldn't be amazed your doubts were true. Hope I helped.
  17. NOD32 Antivirus 3.0.684 This is the report (I put into a password-protected RAR archive so NOD won't delete it): 4/9/2009 12:13:06 PM Real-time file system protection file C:\DOCUME~1\NAUMES~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\Rar$EX00.828\Cabtool.exe probably a variant of Win32/Agent trojan cleaned by deleting - quarantined
  18. Thank you very much! BTW, have you ever had any false positives with this? My NOD32 reports it as a possible Win23Agent/Trojan.
  19. Hi guys, could anyone of you give me a link to Cab Tool 1.8? I tried to find it, but unsuccessfully, and I figured I would try to make my own addons before actually asking you for any. Any help would be much appreciated.
  20. No, I don't ; it is a great solution to Cauptain's problem
  21. Have you considered in this forum the "Unlocker" software? It does really work and deletes any file, no matter what process it's stuck to or which user is logged in. p.s. It's not my intention to advertise; I have found it as an nLite addon. Regards
  22. Still not convinced. I have done (without nLite) SP1->SP3, but my thoughts are these, and they are more about terminology: - Yes, if you go to Windows Update with XP SP1, they won't show SP3, but SP2 for download. - Microsoft claims SP1 is the minimum for SP3, but "recommends" SP2 prior to SP3 (I distinctly remember a lot of forums talking about this at the period of the final release of SP3). This confuses me. MS's terminology is so non-evasive that they "recommend" even Critical Updates and patches. I've decided not to listen to the advices of those more experienced than me about this and here's what I did (I hope johnhc won't stop answering my posts after this ): I took my XP PRO SP1 CD, used nLite, slipstreamed SP2 and THEN SP3 and it works every time! (Installed on VirtualPC at least 30 times) I would really like to hear all of your thoughts on this. No words can describe how much I've learned by just reading these posts; hope I can give something back.
  23. This is one way: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=74122 but there are also addons, so you can wait until one of the hardworking members makes it available for download. Enjoy
  24. K-Lite is no problem. Rename the package in klite.exe Put it in c:\ and the open command prompt. type cd c:\ to change directory then type klite.exe -make unattended which allows you to modify the installation the way you want it. It also give you instruction how to make a self-install package out of it. After that, put the install path in the batch file with no switches. Enjoy, Sp0iLeDBrAt
