  1. It must be a RAM compatibility problem as far I can tell. Set RAM setting manual in the BIOS next time it boots up and see if that holds it...
  2. I saw your question a few times around the forum so let me answer why I do it: I have computers in public places were I divide the drive in 2; One OS and apps partition and one for the games. The games partition never gets messed up, I deny access for normal users to access it other then using a shortcut (not a high protection, but it works ). The OS/apps partition is backed up by Acronis and only 10GB big, enough for Windows XP, Office 2003 (Exel, Word and Powerpoint), and some smaller apps and drivers. I keep the page file on the games partition too so I can restore faster with Acronis True Image witch has the backup stored local for now. This is my reason for heaving 2 partitions .
  3. This is a NTFS problem. It’s seen when a user doesn’t have permission over the files. To set the right permissions, open a CMD window and use the command CACLS. It will give you instructions how to use it. Beware, you will do this on your own risk! Moving this topic to the XP forum…
  4. You’re sold on that motherboard? You must be one of few and you are picking an outdated chipset there, even the 965 series is released after the 975, not to mention that is uses the same Southbridge (ICH7) as the 945 series. If you want to have crossfire then go with an x38 with ICH10R (yes, always the raid version) chipset and a brand like Asus or Gigabyte. But, there is No use in buying a mid-range video card and set it in Crossfire. It could be that you don’t like nVidia, but they just released there 8800GT with 512MB, I would check that one out. If you really want to stick with ATi and you can leave directX 10.0 alone then look at the x1950 series. Also remember that soon PCI-E 2.0 and DirectX 10.1 is coming up, and soon in this case is a month or 2 . Also DO NOT get any cards with DDR2, GDDR3 and up are needed these days on video cards. Quad core with just 1GB, just get your self 2 sticks of those to begin with. If you want to use 2 video cards then get your self a 620watt PSU from Corsair (HX620). Any help needed on building a system, ask us… Also post were you like to buy your components… (I think this was more then $0.02 )
  5. It seems I’m going to open my new place in 3 weeks. Before that I will render the whole place again.
  6. Pirates of the Caribbean Online, Now free for download. The MMO Pirates of the Caribbean Online is from now on available for download. Disney Internet Group wants to lower the line by giving the players an option between a free and a paid account and keeping system specification needs low, with other words; Accessible for every one with a standard computer and an internet connection. The software of Pirates of the Caribbean Online can be downloaded for free but you need to make an account. Who pays 10 US$ a month has access to all weapons, quests and stages. The players that have a free account will have advertisements during game play. Minimum needs are an 800MHz CPU, 512MB of RAM and any 32MB VGA card that support DirectX 7 and up. The game is designed by VR Studio, part of Walt Disney Internet Group. Players can make there own character and can explore fourteen Caribbean islands. The game gives a good balance between land and sea missions. Players can make use of seven different weapons like swords, bombs or even voodoo dolls. Players can’t die in the game; they will be knocked out and thrown in prison were the player needs to break out. Unlike you would think, you can not play with characters like Captain Jack Sparrow and Elizabeth Swann, but they are present in the game. Enjoy! Arrr! Download Link.
  7. There are laptop coolers, did you check them out? Are you still using the 512MB RAM? I don’t know how much you use your memory but I would check if a RAM upgrade would do some good .
  8. Open Excel and go to the tab Tools, click Options, click View and set the checkbox active for "Windows in Taskbar". I have a Spanish version here so I hope I wrote it right... By the way, you can also use CTRL+F6 to switch between documents, not only in excel but also in other Office apps .
  9. Your CPU revision is C1, D1 could be different but both are "compatible". You will take a risk of buying another CPU that will not "work". All depends mostly on the BIOS...
  10. * Thanks for kicking the living death out of me here, I needed it . http://processorfinder.intel.com/List.aspx...c=&OrdCode= So, a 2.5-2.6GHz CPU will be the max. but there is no 3GHz version as you can see, just the 3.06Ghz.
  11. I’m not saying it makes my PC crash, it’s just the games in VMware that crash . I’m also a big fan of VMware my self so don’t get me wrong, but playing more then one game at the same time on a PC is hard without having troubles doing it...
  12. There is NO upgrade for your laptop. You have this CPU now: http://processorfinder.intel.com/details.aspx?sSpec=SL6N9 This is the highest supported CPU in your motherboard so it’s end-of-line when you want to upgrade. Your 3GHz CPU isn’t a Pentium-M and unlike the Pentium-M it has 1 pin less so 478 pins. --- EDIT --- Forget this stuff I was writing here, read ahead please .
  13. Autofilter will give you some options, did you play with that?
  14. Normally there is only one window with the two sheets in it and showing two files open on the taskbar. First thing I would come up with is your taskbars "group same tasks" setting. What OS are you using at home and work?
  15. Welcome to the forums. Did you try it on another PC as well? Could be a video driver problem for example...
  16. I’m getting older . By the way, any updates on higher resolution with Starcraft?
  17. This is why I moved the topic and put "Crysis:" in frond of "Getting DX10 features to work in XP! No need Vista for XP" and that would look better if you say "Crysis: Getting DX10 features to work in XP! No need Vista for DX10" .
  18. That’s after a lot “trail´n´crash”, I would not call it stable not would I call the performance high. I wanted to have multiseat computer systems but hooked off when I saw that most directX 3D apps don’t work well.
  19. We are taking about Crysis here so I will move this topic to the games section.
  20. Just evil
  21. Howly cow! StarCraft is back. This game ruled before, but never was updated, people still play the old version on 640*480pix and IPX network. Ceck out there mediapack!
  22. That’s too bad, most of the time info is included in the header but I guess the .VER file doesn’t have that info.
  23. A knowledgebase, we indeed understood something else .
  24. I think you better do this directly, it’s almost sure you will have no success with the other steps. Just remember if it was FAT32 or NTFS before you fast format it.
  25. Funny that you say that; my first design 5.5 years ago had neon or colored tube lights under the tables.
