  1. Well, they also work fine connected to controllers running in AHCI mode for me. I have only tried a Vista install from it yet though. For XP AHCI will not work with the newer chipsets from Intel, but for Vista it’s no problem indeed...
  2. Okay, so we keep having 3 other points here. Did you do any of these? What OS are you using any way? This is more OS related then a problem with Nero, and there is a small chance it’s the burner it self.
  3. Nope, this is when I came on MSFN thanks to nuhi, so that was when SP1 was released. I had the Windows 98SE version chopped to 50-60MB or so with directX 8.x . I was looking to replace the 16/32bit core for a real 32bit core . nLite made me go with XP (I have to blame some one). I don’t know, but after spending THIS much, why don’t you sell that mobo on eBay and get your self a compatible mobo, is it really worth waiting for NOTHING to happen soon, just keeping a few hundred bucks in your pocket... I know what I would do!
  4. No, the whole system needs to be certified. You can’t just build a system around the card, and you will need the software to use it. The only legal way to do this is paying loads of money, or to "mod" a system from your cable company if the have computers systems with it... The link I gave you, gives a good view of what can be done...
  5. Can you make a small review of it? A lot of people here don’t seem to know, nor do they take time to know the new series from ATI. I think it’s time to show them that the HD 3850 is an nVidia killer in the 200USD range .
  6. Ha, okay. Computer lifetime = 5 years = Expected life time, it’s not how old you are going to be . If they replace/repair it after 5 years, then they do you a favour. They state that: Strange that they do say "10 years" in other countries. Other brands do the same by the way. EDIT: By the way, if your fan dies then you always need to return your card, so they can replace it. The cost of "repair" of the fan will be completely paid by you after one year.
  7. Did you read this information?
  8. I wonder what OS you will be using, hardware isn’t the problem, it’s the software and driver support of the CableCARD.
  9. Yes okay, a complete system, but for just a keyboard or cooler or other small thing I personally would go to the shop. Why? Well this is why: - You go out the door and take some "fresh" air - Walking is good, some computer freaks don’t walk at all, only to go for coffee (sarcasm here!). - You can see things physically before buying - You can try out the products before you buy (Keyboards, mice, speakers and so on...) - have a conversation physically instead by internet (who knows you could meet a nice lady or so ) Okay, these are just the positives... Thank you jcarle... edited my post...
  10. So, let´s wait till SP2 comes out for Vista .
  11. Indeed, I remember using 84.xx drivers with those cards. The 8x.xx should run fine, also try to update your directX, you never know... EDIT: By the way, try the Omega drivers...
  12. Expensive, but working ...
  13. You have to be 21 to drink Dutch beer?
  14. This goes deeper then only Nero, it’s properly a bad or not installed driver, BIOS settings, ASPI system error or bad media (CD/DVD). So: Does it happen with al disks that you burn, e.g. also with 400-500MB of data on the disks? Did it happen after you install software that could have altered the ASPI system, e.g. CD/DVD emulation program or different? Did you install all the drivers for the ATA/SATA controllers? If so, try to reinstall them and see if that helps. BIOS setting are all set on auto for the drives on that ATA channel? If this is too technical, just tell us . Welcome to THE forum by the way!
  15. I wonder every time I see this... What’s wrong with the computer shop around the corner?
  16. Indeed, jcarle hits the jackpot here, he’s 100% right, it was what I wanted to post . But why would you replace a good working ATA drive for a SATA one?
  17. Hmm, 1250MHz (DDR), that’s a FSB/2 of 625MHz. I have seen Motherboards that went up to 520-530MHz so why go higher? Also the timings of those 1250MHz DIMMs must be outrages. If you go up a bit from PC2-6400, you could go with PC2-8500 (1066MHz (DDR)).
  18. You can, more and more games are released under it, sure not with DX 10 or so but OpenGL based . For me XP by the way; I got scared when I saw 1.2GB more RAM used when Vista just stated up, leaving me less space for my games, and yes, I know Vista clears RAM when needed, but still not enough to make up with the 1.2GB. My comuter has only 2GB by the way, If it had 4GB Vista was still installed. (Sold the whole computer and Vista by the way ). The eye-candy I have installed, just one theme, one pack for login/logoff screens / sounds / icons and a program that gives shadows behind the windows…
  19. No need to wait, every time you buy something new you will see”nicer” things just a month later. It always was like that, and always will e like that. Just buy the things when you are ready for it. Before you buy, post here so we can help you out in one day or so .
  20. Didn’t know they had 5 years warranty, to bad they don’t sell them here in Mexico (and I’m too small to distribute )
  21. To add: It’s the same GPU. The GT has 16 Stream Processors disabled of the 128, the 8800GTX will have all 128 Stream processors and could be clocked higher on core and RAM, but last specs are still not released.
  22. I think I worked for these shops... those were the good days... always the golden samples to play with from ASUS . (there site is down so I can’t check... strange...).
  23. Doesn’t matter, ATI or nVidia have almost the same marketing techniques, so they release first the most popular cards. I’ll be happy if my 19" widescreen would be connected to an ATI 3850 for less then 200 USD. 2 of those in Crossfire and they knock hard against nVidias "high-end" desktop cards for les cash .
  24. That’s REALLY bad . http://processorfinder.intel.com/List.aspx?ProcFam=2559 http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=3&amp...amp;modelmenu=1 ASUS EVEN says its "ready" for the 45nm CPU. Other brands with nVidia i680 chipset also confirm that the new QX9650 chip doesn’t boot. People are changing there motherboards like crazy.
  25. ok.. never heard that one before... A few years ago the plan was released to use all that raw calculation power of the GPU to do some CPU tasks and sound calculations (ADC/DAC). But average motherboards already came with an onboard sound chip so I guess they, nVidia and ATI, kept there ideas for there self...
