  1. Cons: Drives are returned more to the stores (RMA) and have issues with nVidia chipsets. Pros: Maxtor reply the emails fast and they swap drives (RMA) with much problems in a short time.
  2. I would do the following: Drop that AGP card and don’t get a motherboard with AGP. Get a new AM2 motherboard like the http://www.asus.com/products4.aspx?l1=3&am...amp;modelmenu=1 M2NPV-VM. No fans, no noise. With that you have to get DDR2 667/800. For the CPU take a Sempron 2800+ or so, you can always upgrade to a X2 later if you want. Just think about it, that onboard 6150 VGA isn’t that bad and not slower then a 6200 when you put in 800MHz and 2 channel, giving you 128bit, RAM. And are we talking here about a video editing system? I can´t read that in your post. How much you like to spend on speakers and amps?
  3. rstainforth, this is software related, not hardware . The problem probably is: - No active or no proper seen partition in the MBR - Windows not recognizing the controller ripken, I think this should move to MSFN Forums > Microsoft Operating Systems - Software Discussion & Support > Windows NT4/2000/2003 ?
  4. Nexus are a bit over priced I think but sure not bad. I personaly would go for a more cheaper brand 12cm fans and just replace them after each year or so when they become weak.
  5. Randy Rhoads, Thanx for this nice information! If a computer comes in for repairs with us the 1st thing we do is check the caps of "doming" and leaking, 20% of those computers that are older then 2 years have those problems. Even I saw it with iNTEL motherboards (and I thought they used good quality ones) used in Gateway computers and that wasn’t just one cap, no, a whole row of them in one time. So many companies that still use bad caps, and like you stated it’s only a few bucks to put in better ones. I know the marketing part behind it but still I’m sure people would pay 10% more for a power supply if it’s lasting longer and with that not taking other computer parts with it. Fuhjyyu is from Taiwan, and they are known a little for having leaking caps; I know that the caps from Japan (and electronics in general) are from better quality. Never saw Antec using those caps but I used the European version of them witch are only for 230v at that time.
  6. Update your BIOS first I would say and see if "boot from add-on card" or so is listed, you have onboard SCSI so i think i will not work if you say "boot from SCSI" but you could give it a try . btw: you can´t boot fom CD/DVD with that add-on card, it´s only for HDDs...
  7. It´s half dead, replace it or just keep one drive in your computer, that´s all I can say...
  8. That PSU doesn´t have 2 12v lines, and 32A on just 1 line looks overdone to me too. Check the specs on there site as 12*32 already is 384Watts on the 12v line . It’s way enough for you, believe me, and it’s made in Japan so I’m not surprised that they also use Japanese capacitors in them witch are known for longer lifetime .
  9. If you wait until DDR3 platforms are available then you have to wait one year more at least. Direct X 10 cards will take also 6 months. If I was you I would upgrade the video card, and go with a 7900GT and some more RAM when you install VISTA. For the rest of the components; keep them for a year more, then sell the whole system and get a new one or keep it as your second one. That’s what I would do...
  10. Hello yusrie, Welcome to the MSFN forums. The powersupply will be enough for your setup. Never had I seen that brand before so I don’t know about the quality. It has a double rail 12V ad that is nice. Do you have some reviews of that powersupply that all of us can read? Still I would go with an Antec or Enermax powersupply, but that’s just me...
  11. nitroshift, are you saying that to me?
  12. First: About what case are we talking about? Second: Do you care about noise? That´s the info I´m missing here. Also, 4 of those 70.4dB/A fans make more then 82.4dB/A of screaming noise! Sure you don´t need power leds to know if your computer is on .
  13. Never I had problems mixing slower RAM with faster, just make sure it´s manual set at the speed of the lowest speed RAM, or place the the module with the lowest RAM first. The only thing I could think of is the chipsize and chipcount or the voltage taht could mess up things. And it´s DDR-SDRAM by the way , so it´s still SDRAM.
  14. ... No words for this release... and it´s getting better and better... man if you were a woman nuhi I would... hehehehe, never mind, thanx again for this d*mn GREAT RELEASE!
  15. Isn´t that all over the world exept if they are going to get cash fom you If Opera runs on it I would use it for internet (PII/K6 and up)...
  16. That´s right! Kick that sh*t! When you install ME it´s almost getting useless exept for kicking it ... I don´t know about the others here but for me ME is the worst OS ever made in de Windows line. Better to get 98SE.
  17. That´s where the topic is about ...
  18. I’m happy that you have nothing against me , neither do I have something against you, we all like to be a team here on MSFN . Talking about water cooling in servers; Not such a good idea, well, the idea is good but it’s still to risky to do that and it takes a bit more maintenance then just a fan and a some software that alarms you when a fan is dead or bad by sound or mail. I just try to use cases with 12cm fans in towers and 80 or 92mm fans in 19" rack cases. I use AMD in all my servers and I’m happy with the new coming X2 at 35Watts. I use nVidia cards in workstations because they are getting less hot, and with that it uses less power too. High efficient power supplies like 80-85% do wonders too, although the heat of it is blown directly out. Turbulence indeed kills the purpose of airflow many times, not all the time (there are things I can’t explain, aerodynamics is not my career ). But most of us remember the Super Orb from Thermaltake, with 2 fans above each other. This orb cooler sucked in cooling well with both fans on, using only the fan on the bottom of the cooler gave it a better result and so I sold those coolers telling my customers to take off the top fan, btw, those coolers are also known as AMD core killers , never had problems with them dough. I like the vveerryywwiinnddyyddaayy, that’s cool B).
  19. The blue ones are LinkSYS (old), the gray ones LinkSYS/Sisco (new) . EDIT: I sell LinkSYS products as my main brand for network products, they have good service and more important, very good products although some are a bit overpriced. Why do you think LinkSYS is giving that mail in rebate? They want to get writ of the old stuff first .
  20. The other one NewEgg has on there site has better electronic components inside, this is why it uses 12V and not 7.5V: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16833124016 I know the other one is 10 buck cheaper after mail in rebates, but still. I personally would only buy a switch if it would have internal power supply but that will be 50 bucks and up .
  21. Okay, I think this is getting... well... something personal against me? Listen, try this: - put a ventilator that blows next to you - put a ventilator on you Then tell me what you feel... Only thing I can say is that I tried it out, even with the servers I sell, some are placed in rooms that are 30oC and I did a lot of test on it. Before in Holland, talking about 1996, I was selling video editing systems with FAST (brand) capture cards and systems normally just worked 5 hours rendering with normal cooling. By experimenting a lot I got the system stable to 8 hours just by playing with fans. Could you just say for ones that I could be right with some points?
  22. @ xtremee, Your welcome, and I wish it was fixed for you. Talking about the jumpers, I know the drives that have jumper settings like this, and this. Any way, still it strange that it’s seen wrong, I read your post concentrated believe me . Try Maleko´s option...
  23. Well, I also think it has anything to do with that...
  24. No, that you have to do most of the time with a jumper on the motherboard.
  25. Yes, looks like it. Remove the jumpers and put them back on to make sure they make good cantact, only thing I could think of now...
