Hey, thanks kind sir .. You must have read my mind, after a hectic week, I finally got back to this. One thing I did think of, Keynote by Marek Jedinski (spelling?) had an Email import utility where you could do batch imports. i still use keynote, but darned if I can find where I might have archived that utility. Nor do I remember why I abandoned the idea before. Never the less, I sure am open to suggestions. Half the fun of computer archive /database is being able to find what your looking for. Jake

Hi Charlotte; Sorry I took so long here, holidays and sooo much good food ...fridge is just never big enough .. Anyway, when I was testing, I first tryed Win98se sysmon (is it a memory issue)? Spotted the heavily taxed CPU.... Next stop was Process explorer...thinking maybe I could catch the offending process ...but the system would just become unresponsive ...so as a last ditch effort, Checked my router logs to see where the last request came from...I think it was like 4 out 5 from someplace like adsense or some such non-sense. To make a long story short, in the meantime....somebody was throwing away this DFI motherboard (still in the box) which was a perfect fit for this Pentium III 933 procesor I had on the shelf. (98se loves it, btw). But it allowed me to dual boot Windows 7 RC1 ....Which also surprised me how well it ran on this machine. But in light of all that, I never got back to testing Opera 10 yet ...and the board I did test it with is on the shelf right now. Jake

hi...thanks for taking the time to answer ...actually, what I was hoping for was a way to import them into a searchable database of some sort. The numbers run into the the thousands. It also would be great to sort according to message content instead of just dates. I do use Thunderbird on my laptops for the ability to use "imap" . But for lite and fast under Windows 9x ...Foxmail is hard to beat. The preview before download, the forced text mode where one has to physically click a button to view in html format. The only time it has ever crashed is when my ISP's server was having trouble. But I'm not here to sell anybody on Foxmail ....and the new 6x version was pretty messy the last time I tryed it anyway. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.... Jake

Hi... Hoping maybe somebody can offer a solution? Dealing with a relatively large amont of emails and using Foxmail v5.8 . Trying to come up with an archival solution. The problem is, any export / Save as.. results in a file with the export date....not the creation date or date received. So far, I have only found one shareware solution that came close to what I was looking for..... Thanks Jake

Don't let the geek speak throw you, H.I.D. is MS$ way of saying USB Keyboard /mouse Etc. I even have a USB sound card here by Altec Lansing that installs that way.... Ditch the CTV monitor entry and the HID entry and they should stay gone. Only exception to that rule is if something is on the motherboard that expects to find them, which I doubt seriously is the case here..... Jake

When Windows 98 first came out, that was a common trouble shooting technique ..... phone tech support types would have you remove all entries under a suspect branch.....reboot and let windows rebuild...then look to see what windows put back to make sure the correct drivers where installed. If it puts back something that does not belong there, look at .... C:\windows\INF\OTHER\ You'll usually find the offending inf file there. Jake

I have seen this often, with various sound cards. (or heard as the case may be) Just as an observation, might want to check out this interesting look into how 9x intializes memory on Raymond Chens blog. http://blogs.msdn.com/oldnewthing/archive/...8/14/54640.aspx Fascinating glimpse into the world of those who did the programing work. Wow, thanks, this all happened before I found my way to Msfn... Jake -
Thanks ... To be honest, I was hoping for something a tad more professional than that. If your not careful, that thing defaults to a 60 sec recording and shuts off. but thanks for the reply Jake

Maybe somebody can point me in the right directon here. Setting up a system, where a 98se box will running a slave laptop to operate a slide projector thru VPN software. I would like to be able to have this same machine do voice recording from 2 microphones while running the slave laptop. The problem is, some of the people who will be using this are not real technically skilled. Most of the wav recorders I have looked at would intimidate them. Anybody offer a suggestion?? TIA Jake

Yes. Be interested to know if that works ...Apple would be ignoring the the standards they helped implement ...but then stranger things have happened .... http://www.usb.org/developers/devclass_doc...harging_1_1.zip Jake

I remember having a copy of Outlook 98 downloaded from Microsoft, probably somewhere on a CD in my archives. However, it was always licensed under an existing Office 97 or Outlook 97 license. So, it was intended to upgrade Outlook 97 to Outlook 98. Hmm ...you're probably right, just seemed I was using the then recently freeware'd StarOffice 5.1. But I did have Office 97 on one of my machines. Thanks Jake -
Just an F.W.I.W. I was looking for an easy way to do what I think you are searching for, which is simple upload, download access to files hosted my Windows 98 machine. Connected thru a DSL line, I set my router to do port forwarding for Port 21 to my 98 machine, (192.168.x.x) .....Then I grabbed a program called BabyFtp .... http://www.pablosoftwaresolutions.com/html...ftp_server.html It does logging, only allows anonymous connections, but logs IP address's. Then when I am at another location, open a browser window and ftp to my ISP Ip address, or in house, I just ftp to my router assigned ip address. HTH Jake

The "CD" in question does /did exist. I have one here..... but as to freebie? I don't recall any offers for freebie's. Although I do have some vague recollection of a highly discounted price for a small window of time. But don't quote me on it .... The one I wish I could find was the Outlook 98 they offered as a freebie for a couple months, I lost mine in a hard drive crash .... (that's the day backups became a way of life ) Jake -
It is driver related ...if you have not looked at it already....here are a couple of links http://forums.ilounge.com/archive/index.php/t-185328.html http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/Other-DRI...005-03-23.shtml This one is advertised to work well, your mileage may vary .... http://www.redchairsoftware.com/files/ipod98driver.exe It's free. This was brought to my attention over at the K6plus forum ...and is truely unique.....did a search here and found no references. If your into benchmarking your system, this is a one of kind...no install, I know it supports 98se and ME. OSMark... Looking for an old utilty for the k6-2 processors called "cacheonw.exe" .... All the links I have found to it are long gone.... Thanks Jake

Curious .... I too, am having problems with Opera 10..... after viewing several web pages it will slow to a crawl and eventually just hang. I uninstalled it, reverted back to Ver 9 and all is well again. On a side note, the 100% cpu usage thing also occured, but only on certain websites ...Yahoo in particular. Avoid yahoo and one or two others and Cpu usage falls back to the 5 - 15 % range. Jake

Tihiy... Installed rpxbeta2 . (oops, didn't know I was doing something wrong....sorry) Thanks Jake
