  1. It never gave me any grief, but I'd gladly read what issues you've had with it. Notice that Kensington mouseware is one piece of software that I recommend but it seems nobody really likes it but me. To me the MS Intellimouse Optical v. 1.1 connected through the PS/2 connector plus Kensington mouseware 6.11 is a winner...
  2. Jake, Thanks very much for the tip! Probably the most straightforward way to set emm386 will be to delete the old one and copy the new version in. After all, we're talking about DOS here... I recently added Win32s to that system, so I should be all set there. I'm seeing your post at the same time as dencorso's, who suggests using an emm386 from Windows 98. Maybe I'll see first if I can use the one that you give, if only to keep the system "within the 3.11 family" as much as possible. Then if that doesn't work, I'll try the Win98 version. --JorgeA Hi ... The only reason I suggested that was because that update from Microsoft resolved issues with the PCI bus and memory reporting that I had dealt with once upon a time. But Dencorso won't lead you astray ... Although I have less than rave reviews about his suggestion for Kensington mouseware ....but that's just me Cheers Jake
  3. Fwiw ... Microsoft provides an updated version of emm386 for Dos 6.0 / 6.2 ... http://support.microsoft.com/kb/122415/en-us Don't ask me how to set it....been too long.. Also you might want to take a look at Win32s for Win 3.x Jake
  4. Just had to drop a note here...this is shaping up to be one of the most stable releases yet. Several freaky problems I was having are vanished. Kudos to Xeno and Tihiy. Thanks guys.... Jake Now I'm down to 2 fav programs that don't play nice with newer version of RP9
  5. Just a passing thought, F-Prot antivirus for Dos is still available and the signature files are kept up to date. http://www.f-prot.com/download/home_user/download_fpdos.html Jake
  6. I ain't picking sides here, but the sign on the welcome mat does say; MSFN _ Where people go to know! Not to mention, I can't tell you how many times, people reply to questions around here and drop hints that have saved me countless hours of fruitless digging around. If that were not enough, sometimes I just enjoy some good engaging conversation about one of my pet projects "Windows 98" Cheers Jake
  7. Hi; Somebody correct me if I'm wrong here, but I think 127.0.0.1 has been the standard loop back address ever since the days of Dos....
  8. triger49, I hear you about Yahoo! --JorgeA Actually, there is a method to my madness...so to speak... [Rant] My wife's penchant for hording recipes may possibly be without rival. I mean we're talking no dust on the book shelves because dust could not find the shelves. Of course this spilled over to Internet recipe sites and daily recipe emails. Saving grace arrived in the form of Yahoo's unlimited email accounts. Hence the regular visits to Yahoo. While Google's reputation over privacy is a gray area, I sometimes find myself thinking it would be cool to let Google index this apartment...maybe I would find some stuff that's been missing for years .. [/Rant] Jake
  9. Yo Dencorso; You are a gentleman and a scholar. I had been tinkering with Hosts file for a couple weeks with limited success. That download you listed did everything I was attempting and a whole lot more including be able to use IE6 again here on MSFN. No more page obliterating, dancing crap on Yahoo! Also, a quote from the included readme file ... "[important Notice - 2K/XP/Vista/Win7 Users] In most cases a large HOSTS file (over 135 kb) tends to slow down the machine. This only occurs in 2K/XP/Vista. Windows 98 and Windows ME are not affected" Thanks Jake
  10. Hi Just thought I'd share this ...development on this was dormant for over 3 years...but new version is cool... http://www.chaosmanager.net/ Jake
  11. Hi; Just for the sake of leaving a clearly marked trail here. All the problems I was encountering with RP9.5.x where the result of one bit mapped image that I am pretty sure I found over at Wikipedia Commons.... If someone had told me that one Bmp wallpaper could cause that much trouble, I would not have believed it possible. Jake
  12. Sorry Tihiy, must be having a senior moment here with my communication skills. it is like you have a Black screen that is pinned as "stay-on-top" System resources are not affected...I can see the system resources when I hit ctrl-alt-del. I can see the start menu when I push ctrl-esc.....A reboot puts everything back in order Jake
  13. That's too unspecific - screen blanks... Taskbar disappears? Explorer crashes? Sky falls down? As in Blanked out....nothing...black...like you turned out the lights. If I uploaded a screen shot you would see a black square. I was so happy the wallpaper glitch is gone, I hesitated to even mention it.... Jake Ps:...just tryed it again to make sure....mouse cursor is the only thing visible...nothing crashes. but I have to use the keyboard to get control of the system...Ctrl-esc brings up the start menu....ctrl-alt-del works also.
  14. Tihiy .. Great ...everything works...awesome...thanks! There was one nuisance I forgot to mention however from 9.50....blush If I select a windows 7 skin(either one)...then go back to any other ....the screen blanks...I had mentally dismissed it because I decided I like the Vista black and doubt I'll ever use the Windows 7 blue. But anyway, I can usually bring it back by Ctrl-Alt-Del and it still happens with Ver 9.55 Jake
  15. Hi .. Bluetooth drivers are around for that chipset w/w98... http://download.cnet.com/DELL-U2-in-DFU-CSR-Driver/3000-18493_4-88251.html That link at Cnet points back CSR's website, where you have register... http://www.csr.com/updates.htm Gonna look at the driver CD I have here and see if they are listed... Jake
  16. Jaclaz.... If this works....wow. I have got countless old 5 1/4 floppies around here, first from my old Atari 8 bit 130xe....then my first 8086 with Dos 3.3 (I think). Time to dig out my 5 1/4 - 3 1/2 combo floppy drive. Jake
  17. Yo Tihiy, It was something odd about that Grassland scenes wallpaper. I went to desktop properties, set wallpaper to none, resized the image to 1024x768, then used drag and drop to get it and a couple others into Rpconfig. Bingo, error disappeared. One other nuance of interest. This is really strange, if I try the Windows 7 superbar skin and then switch back to the regular Windows 7 skin, newer apps such as Opera 10.x, Firefox 3.6x and others start acting as if the superbar is still there. Older apps such IE 6 don't seem to notice or care. I have no clue... Jake
  18. Tihiy; Clouds.bmp is the one that ships with Windows. My ISP does not allow bmp files, so I had to use a download site. Also, did not want to annoy the folks around here with 1.1 meg bmp file. http://uploading.com/files/a7299d4e/grassland-scene-allard_24_600x450.bmp/ Jake
  19. Tihiy ... Thanks, just love revolutions pack. Ran into an error after a smooth install. A screenshot.... After install and reboot, opened Rpconfig and tryed the Windows 7 and Windows 7 superbar themes, settled for Windows 7, then clicked on wallpaper tab which is when the error occured. Now it happens everytime I open Rpconfig, but if I clear the error everything works. Jake
  20. The author has noted that....Strange thing is it works for me if I type the search query in that little dialog box at the top and hit "Enter". A similar plugin is available for "firefox" 3.6x but I have yet to get it to work. By the way, do you Flash ver 10x installed? Jake
  21. If you are running one of 10.5x versions of Opera, do yourself a favor and try the Cooliris desktop widget. http://widgets.opera.com/new/3/ It is a visual treat to see this kinda of thing on Windows 9x. I'm using the new Ver 10.52 with 933 Pentium III and an Fx5200 Nvidia card. It works so well, it's in incredible! Jake
  22. Never argue with success.. I'll bet Van Halen doing "Jump" would sound terrific in 6 channel sound! Jake
  23. Hi ... They are tough to find ...but try this ... http://list.driverguide.com/list/company223/ You'll need to sign up for a free account to download or put up with a dozen pages of ad's first.. Found some here also ... http://www.x-drivers.com/catalog/drivers/sound_cards/companies/c-media/models/cm-106/index.html Jake
  24. Fredledingue; Hey, Thanks...I have been thinking for months some kind of key topic index was needed and here you come! The problem with me finding things, is I start looking for something here or over at MDGX website and in the process happen upon something else I never knew existed. Such is the case with Tihiy's SafeMode fix. That thing is a real gift for people like me who constantly struggle against a cluttered desktop and frequent ventures into safe mode. Cheers Jake
