  1. There is pretty much nothing I can change without reworking all (pixel job, no color reductions and stuff there). Font is drawn directly in MS-Paint in my case.
  2. I used the image from on older SP as a basis and this is the result : http://www.tmeeco.eu/WIN98SE/98START.bmp EDIT: works now
  3. The arrow only serves something to differentiate shortcut from a program. When I have some installers on desktop and then install them I can get same kind of icons with name name... nom figure out which is right without looking at propertios. But this is not too much of concern, Revolutions Pack fixes that. As for start menu art, I'll take some liberties then
  4. What registry keys need to be chanced to give shortcuts their arrow back ? (or make them different colored or something, to make them different) Can the open dialog box fields' size be saved, or the open box default size be enlarged ? The default sizes obscure most of the filename, which in one reason I prefer non-detail view as it always shows full file name (and several columns so more files are seen at once). I will also touch up the start menu graphics so it would look a bit smoother. Question is what is the font used ? The original GFX is quite "damaged" and touching them up can look quite a bit different from what it should be... One other thing I noticed after installing SP is that in IfranView had all the text in Bold in the conf menus. Installing the 100+ fonts option fixed that. The rest has been very solid so far. I'll report all oddities when I encounter any. I just reinstalled my main machine and right now I am in the process of installing my essential pieces of software.
  5. I just tested this file and it still gave the BSOD.
  6. I experienced the BSOD too if I hooked my USB 2.0 hub and then removed it after I had used some flash sticks (that worked perfectly). I only needed one button press to get out of it and then refresh desktop as everything was black. This happened on a VIA VT6212L USB 2.0 controller.
  7. Aha, I did not know main updates revert the graphics, that is good to know ^^ I will see what file there is, I certainly have had no problems so far.
  8. I got an all VIA machine to play with now. 3.10 has been solid for me so far, but looks like after installing it the start menu is having the old "windows 98" graphics.
  9. I got broken search too ! In my case I have to install .NET 2.0 to run one PCB design program so I have to live with the search bug.
  10. I recall AP not offering to install older VB runtimes when something newer is already installed.
  11. One thing I now noticed about the older version is that it can open a few more formats like PCX, however in cannot save into these formats so it is not so useful. For opening, conversion and sometimes small edits nothing beats IrfanView, that program supports a lot of image formats when plugins pack is installed too !
  12. Install Vanilla 98SE *Open MS-Paint *Take color picker tool *Move the mouse to a random location on the canvas and click *Color is selected and the previous tool is selected (in this case pencil) MS-Paint version is 5.00.1740.1 Size 344064 Bytes Install SP3.9 *Open MS-Paint *Take color picker tool *Move the mouse to a random location on the canvas and click *Color is selected but tool does not change back MS-Paint version is 5.00.1523.1 Size 328464 Bytes I am not sure what the older version has over the stock one, other than the tool problem I have not seen any difference in functionality. Tool not changing back breaks the workflow for a "poweruser" The navigation menu on my website is made in MS-Paint for example - http://www.tmeeco.eu It is not a big deal as I can always extract the original version from the install CD (it lives inside BASE4.CAB)
  13. I spoke too soon about the MS-Paint version getting dowgraded bf graphics filters. It is the main updates that do it. Other than that 3.9 has been rock solid !
  14. Omega stopped before the X series. 9800 is the last that Omega ones do.
  15. I have the info from my own experience and by looking into the components datasheets (which may be rather hard to find). There are a lot of SATA bridge chips, some work better than others. Marvell makes some good chips, new WD PATA drives use thsoe for example.
  16. I discovered that the graphics filters update installs an older version of MS-Paint. Only difference is that color picker tool does not swich back to previous tool upon picking a color, and it is a big annoyance for a seasoned user. I keep a vanilla MS-Paint exe in cases like this. Putting vanilla back does not seem to break anything and it gives the functionality of the tool back.
  17. Kingspec IDE SSDs are garbage, mainly because there is NO wear levelling and you will wear out the drive quite quick (a year or two) to the point of uselessness. SATA to IDE adapter and a SATA SSD is the best combination, those IDE SSDs have such stuff in them already anyway (at least Kingspecs do).
  18. I got hack my HP NX6125 BIOS to allow me to use a 2200 my colleague has at work, when I do that I'll be reporting here on my experiences.
  19. Keyboard Layout Manager seems to do the trick ! Regarding Yes/No, I am too polite and afraid to sound too demanding EDIT: I looked into KBD files and they did not seem too complex, mabe I will reverse engineer it a bit...
  20. I began experimenting with Dvorak keyboard layout and I am quite liking it even though I type very slowly as I don't yet know where all the letters are One problew however is that there is only USA specific layout in 98SE and I would like to type õäöü without ALT+xxx cowbinations, US-international has all of them nicely available behind dead keys and AltGr+x combinations. I found some Dvorak-International layout files and installers but 98SE seems not to understand KLC files and the installers want 2K/XP/Vista/7. Does anyone know anything helpful ?
  21. I have exact same problem, and I know it is caused when a program touches something that has to do with 192KHz. when I try to play anything 192KHz on the card I will get BSOD with same error.
  22. It is "Watercolor Emico Ergo Blue (Large Taskbar)" by Gelosea, with a small edit to make start menu button match taskbar height. Comes with Revolutions Pack 9
  23. Win98SE. The file says 10.01 in properies aswell, anyway the link is here : http://tiido.rocketcat.info/Fileden/Process%20Explorer.exe
