  1. Windows 98 doesn't like DNS very much... But if your online, then update your version of IE... it could have been currupted.
  2. If the computer logs on to a network, then move the regkey to run from the login.bat file. If its a stand alone pc, you can edit the win.ini file and use the "run" line to install the key. Hope this helps.
  3. You could set all the users as local admins... But you will need to set them up on each pc - Go into "Local Users and computers", select "Groups", double click "Administrators", then "Add...", in the "Look In" box select your domain, then find in the bottom box "Domain Users" and "OK". When the local user logs on, they will then have access to the control panel functions. Hope this helps...
  4. I'm not sure you can. Windows uses OpenGL. You may have to Load XP on to your Lappy, W2k isn't really designed for games, but XP is. You say you have the latest ATI Driver, but is it the Open GL version? Try the Open GL Website they have lots of questions and answers. Hope this is of some help....
  5. Xp does have a bridge facility, But W2k Pro doesn't. To use the W2K "bridge" you need W2k server or XP. What exactly are you trying to bridge?
  6. Is your W2k Server an Domain Controller? and is it the only domain? I am assuming you want to join your server to another domain? If it is, then you will need to demote the pc out of the Active directory. WARNING: you will loose all the users and settings for the AD - this aint fun. If your W2k server is a member server, then you can still use W2k Server like a workstation anyway, but why do you want to?
  7. What program are you using to playback the audio? and have you tried any others? Does the CD do the same? Can you listen to on-line music via real-player? I had a simular problem with my HP laptop. All streaming audio, and cd audio will play constantly - no matter what the PC is doing. But an MP3, WAV, Midi file etc, are decoded on the fly. So they will "skip" if the hard drive is doing something else. Notebook HDDs are not designed for audio/video applications, they only spin at 4500 rpm, if you mainly use your Lappy for audio/video, you would be better off with an external 7200rpm or faster Hard drive. Hope this helps you.
  8. If you break the pen by playing with it????? Stick it back together with glue...... What, you mean a can't use my welder !!!!1 And dont stick your fingers together..... Spoilsports!

  15. Hmmm...... Water and electric??? it really doesn't sound like a good idea to me... What if a seal goes? a pipe bursts? etc....etc....etc.... Too much to worry me ! And you said the hard drive cradle went at the front of the machine! so where are they now? As for Dave XP, I think the only way to get all the air out of your system is to bleed it - this is one of the things that is very worrying.... The best way to bleed your system is to have a spare length of hose and put it in to a jar full of coolent... Then the uppermost part of the cooling system, u need to remove one of the pipes and connect the spare hose (make sure you get the flow right) then the hose you have unplugged into and empty jar... Then run your system (go into the bios to save booting) and it will pump from the full jar, to the empty one - as long as your pipes are round the right way! - Then when your sure there is no air left in the system, stop the pump, and put your finger on the end of the pipe you removed earlier to stop any air getting in, and water getting out. unplug the spare hose, and connect the normal system hose. Your system should now be fully air free... However, i think you will be unlikely to have 100% air free system as there are so many nooks and crannys in the systems. Hope this helps DaveXP... and any one else with the same problem... I dont know if there is a "bleed valve on the system, or if there is one available...
  16. The usual problems then.... If computers are so clever... .... Why do they need a user????

  20. I think i'm right in saying that NT4 doesn't support USB devices? I know i have had problems with a flash drive on NT4, but rather than mess around with it, i had a new copy of W2k server to install... no problems since, though it doesn't help you very much, but i would upgrade to w2k if you can... Sorry can't be more help than that.
  21. Thanks for yuor help Andrew That is the reg hack i know of ref MSKB Article - 312052 and the bitware one doesn't apply to my software. I have also been told to delete everything in the "\%systemroot%\system32\spool\printers" folder. But this is empty. However in the "\%systemroot%\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\3" folder there are all the printer drivers ever installed. So by stopping the spooler, and deleteing the brother drivers, then resatrting the spooler i am able to load the brother generic pcl5 driver which seems to be ok at the moment.... But the other HP LJ1010 pc after being turned on this morning, seems to have sorted its self out?? will keep you posted...
  22. spoolsv.exe has generated erros and will be shutdown. every time we log in to the pcs.... ideas?
  23. You can install an Os to a usb device. But there are some things to consider as mentioned above. Your BIOS must support USB Bootable devices, Your OS Must also support USB Your USB device must have ample room for the OS, Drivers, Temp files and of coarse a Swap file.. But! the OS would only work on 1 pc... the one it was built on. I can't see why u would want to build an OS on a portable device? The only use I can see is to make the USB device bootable, and then have all the OS files and drivers for unattended install on to the internel hdd - If the CDRom is faulty or missing... Then it should work... I am currently working on this and will post a note if it is possible. I will do it for W2k OS and let you now....
  24. Oh dear.... Mind you... A bowling alley with that many flowers would stop all those gutter balls !!!!
  25. When is it being released then !!!!! lol Someone was seriously bored !
