Where To Get Some Good But Cheap Cable?
FthrJACK replied to techguy21801's topic in General Discussion
You buy the r45 ends seperately, you will need a crimping tool to fix them on too. the cable is quite cheap when you buy a lot, http://www.maplin.co.uk sell it. they also sell r45 ends too, and the wall sockets too i think. i plan to plaster Cat5 into the house walls and have sockets in some of the rooms so theres not cable trailing all over the place, and the computers can be moved to any room and just need to plug into the wall sockets to get on the network. -
yay! what a boost for the kyoto agreement... not. All good but i think we need clean fuel first.

kazza is evil! Odd that its the most downloaded P2P program out there, but then a lot of that is down to word of mouth by the usual PC noobs, people buy their first pc and go install a heap of spyware (sorry, kazaa) on their machine and then wonder why it runs like a slug. I was playing in a game of 1942 and this guy was whining about his ping, turned out he had gator, kazaa and a whole load of other garbage in his machine, he wouldnt acept it was the cause of his ping, and laughed at us when we where all telling him his pc is full of spyware, i think thats one of the reasons. People arent clued up about spyware or how bad it is, some just say "oh well theres nothing on my pc to spy on" and leave it at that, IDIOTS Theres nothing more stupid than people.

How much RAM have you got? When XP crashes does it just reboot? This sounds like a thread started earlier, lets find what the cause is first: Right-click on My Computer -> Properties -> Advanced tab -> press the Settings button under Startup and Recovery -> uncheck Automatically Restart Next time that this happens you'll see a BSOD instead of just rebooting. Write down the error code that the screen displays and come back to us with that information, it should be easy to solve once you have that error code.

im still using the beta... its perfectly ok so ive not bothered updating it

i get 0 spams to my isp mail also, if you ever sign up to anything, have your name set to something that identifies that site. eg, today i sgned up for an intel news letter, so in the name field i put nospamINTEL if they sell my email addy on to other people i will know who it was, then mail them asking why and slap the data protection act at them. also, if you h ave unlimited mail addys on your webspace you could make a few mail addys that arent important to use only for list subscription and website use etc. then couple that with the above tip and you can always close the account too.. so they just get mail bounced back at them.

when you put the XP cd in your drive you are given the options: Do you wish to upgrade your current windows installation? (recomended) Continue with full install (advanced users) or something to that effect. the first option isnt much different to the last one in terms of screens you see etc. but what it does is remove some files and replace other on your windows installation and "merges" the two together. what results is unstable systems, drive issues, hardware not working (usually USB or sound) and overall slow system performance. The stop error you get is one such syptom, but could be caused by other factors... the other main one you have ruled out. im pretty sure you chose the "recomended" option when installing XP... backup your files you want to keep. format your hard drive (you can do this in "advanced user" install) just delete the partition with XP on it, then create new partition and windows will the proceed to install as normal. you do all of that in the XP install screens, set your BIOs to boot from CD if it isnt already, pop the xp CD in and restart it. DONT select "upgrade" this time round, this should cure your issues. if you didnt do that option last time, try this: if you have service pack one installed you will need a Slipstreamed windows XP cd. put the CD in your drive then go to the START button. go to RUN. in the runbox type sfc /scannow then press OK or hit enter. thats sfc<SPACE>/scannow Windows will check system files and replace any that are damaged or different from on the CD, it might well fix your problem.

Change The Background On Msn Messenger 5
FthrJACK replied to Makaveli Tha Don's topic in Software Hangout
its just an image in the programs folder, replace it with your own image by the same name and there you go -
i meant dont open a hotmail account. its just a spam dustbin.
-
save yourself a headache and dont open a "please spam me" account altogether when the guy who built hotmail sold it to MS he made them sign an agreement promising to always offer free acounts. MS eventually thought up ways to get money off you anyway, as if they are short of cash or something.
-
But you "upgraded" your operating system from windows 98 or ME right? didnt do a clean install of XP, but chose "i want to upgrade my operating system [Recomended]" why it says recommended i dont know because its no easier than the other way, yet doing it the "recomended" way just causes system problems and instability

Happy birthday man, hope hes alright. serves you right always telling him to leave you alone and go play on the motorway did the driver stop?

you could always just not do any flying.... or get in a dive bomber or B17 and have someone else do the flying while you keep yourself busy on the guns. You will spend most of your time driving tanks, jeeps, as infantry, being a passenger in a vehivle or manning a gun on say.. the tank or APC.

NEVER do an "upgrade" of your operating system or these problems are what you get. backup your data, format the PC and do a clean install and all your woes should be solved. your pc will run a bit faster too i expect.
