  1. Ready to be really p***ed off? Disney's buying the rights to it now that it's made all that cash...exactly the kind of thing Moore would make a documentary about. And as far as being well respected...well...you have a point, he IS respected by half the population, but the other half hates him, much like both of our current presidential candidates. Just playing devil's advocate...
  2. Sorry for running off, no offense intended. My physics teachers just drilled that into my head, so maybe I'll have saved you the trouble of listening to a physics teacher at some point (which is my ultimate goal in life ). And welcome to MSFN.
  3. ****...thought I'd never have to hear the phrase "centripetal force" again (I used to be an engineering student...now English...LOL) BUT...while we're on that particular subject, it's inertia (commonly and incorrectly referred to as "centrifugal force") that pulls spinning things apart (they want to move in a straight line) and centripetal force that keeps things spinning (force vector towards the center of the CD in this case...if anyone cares). Either way, it's something I hope I never see...just thinking of it makes me weep. Unless, of course, it were a WindowsME CD...
  4. A friend of mine told me that 48x was safe for a stamped (retail type) disk, and that 52x was fine for a recorded disk. I can't say I've ever personally had a disk explode, though I've heard fairly gruesome (hardware-wise) accounts of the carnage that can happen to your poor disks and drive. I don't know why they put 54x+ drives on the market anyway...
  5. I used to have a 9600SE (I now have a wonderful x800pro...you should get one) and I had similar problems with the drivers. I think it had something to do with the drivers unloading themselves when windows started. If the mobo is a via chipset and it was running a non-ati graphics card previously, and the via patch wasn't applied, then you'll have problems with it until you reinstall windows... As far as 8x, I never had any problems with that, but it's generally recommended (as far as I've heard) to use an AGP aperature size of twice the vram that your gfx card has, so if the mobo supports it, go with 256mb (the 9600se has 128mb of ddr, right?). Good luck and happy gaming with the 9800
  6. I know the feeling...19, having failed my first class ever...
  7. The thing that's really too bad is that this movie had to be made by Michael Moore. If it had been made by someone who was more respected in the industry, there would have been less support for the people who posit that all it contains is lies. Moore certainly hasn't done anything to endear himself to less...extreme types. So the people who already believe, or are riding the fence may benefit from the information in this movie, but anyone who's aligned with Bush's side is simply going to pass it off as Left Wing blubber. Too bad, but at least some people are getting the information, right?
  8. Shutdown -a is completely dependent on your skills as a typist (that's why I have a batch file to do it for me )...you'd have to get it in before the shutdown happened. Sounds like you'd have to either put it in a batch file on disk and then execute it as fast as you could, but otherwise you'd have to do it manually in a cmd window...
  9. Born and Raised in Arvada, a suburb of Denver, in Colorado. It's weird seeing you people from other countries. I guess I've never been outside the US except on the internet. That's the beauty of it I guess...connects the world (or at least those who live in communities where it's possible to connect...)
  10. For a long time, I had a PIII 500 Mhz with 256 (maximum) ram that could play anything my friend's systems could just because I had it optimized (defragmenting, few processes running, etc, etc.) even though they had double my specs (when a 1Ghz processor was impressive...lol). BUT I've come to the conclusion, now that I have my new rig, that buying the new computer definitely has its advantages. If you can afford it, save yourself the hassle of trying to figure out what options in games will keep your framerate up and just get something that'll pull off 60+ FPS (30 is the maximum human detectable FPS) all the time so even if you lose a few fps here and there you don't notice it... That and you can tell your friends what you have and not have them laugh at you... Besides, you wouldn't be here if all that power doesn't make you drool... (Go MSFN!) And welcome from a fellow "new subscriber" to Azazel.
  11. We have needed it in the past for Backup Exec (it has an e-mail function), that and one of my bosses is a bit....lazy...
  12. I'm guessing it's possible, but is it *wise* to install office 2003 on an install of Server 2003?
  13. So call me old school, but Starcraft and the Dune series (original, II, 2000, and emperor: battle for dune) they don't get any better...except if starcraft didn't stop creating units above a certain number...
  14. I had the same problem, but removing the comments (preceded by semicolon [;]) fixed it right away. (In the registry file), but then that appears to be a bit below your problem lol.
  15. I know some people will tell you that a p4 will give you better gaming performance, but do you really want to spend that much? My computer (specs below) cost me about 1300, not counting the 120 gig HD (but you don't need that anyway) and it gives me a 3dmark03 score of 7500-7600 (if you care about such things) but it can play any game I have at full detail and resolution without lag. Happy Searching (but then you'll be happier once you have everything )
  16. Just FYI, a friend of mine got one of the many viruses that restarts your PC, and he found that "shutdown -a" (abort shutdown) was a very nice friend indeed. Hope you get your EXE-ability back.
  17. Ok, I did some more researching (something I've never liked doing...and still don't, being a college student ) and I found the following. I have tried enabling loopback processing, but have not so far had success. Ideas?
  18. Arvada, a suburb of Denver (or an extension of a sprawling metropolis, whatever)
  19. The only problem with that is that I only have permission to create GPOs within my own OU (Which cannot have any of my users themselves in it) Is there no other way?!?!?! <Curses Microsoft's lack of forseeing MY needs >
  20. You think I'd have come back if you all hadn't been helpful????
  21. @Curv Ball: I can't change any of the user object settings, only add them to groups. @Minus: Yes, the OU replaced the child domain @Spyder: I will try groups, but so far I have not had luck with this.
  22. Just a plain-vanilla Coloradan, this is only my second post, but I read the site everyday... Greetings to all.
