antivirus for windows 2003 server enterprise

Will SAV8.1 run on 2K3? -
940 Dead? Opterons are 940 only, so I don't think we'll see the demise of the 940 anytime soon.

It's physically and electrically compatible with all socket A motherboards, but if the motherboard BIOS doesn't have the voltage and multiplier map for the CPUID value, then the board will "test" and accept the lowest settings the CPU, unaware that the multiplier and voltage can be altered on the fly, and leaving it set at it's lowest settings.

Thanks. I forgot about that page, but I'm not actually PLAYING games on the server, I'm hosting dedicated servers of games (One at a time) on a system with multiple NICs and network load balancing enabled.

Alternatives to Internet Explorer, Outlook Express

Browser: Firefox Email: Thunderbird Both can be downloaded from http://www.mozilla.org -
As long as the the motherboard supports it. I stuck a Mobile XP CPU in a board that apparently didn't support it, and it registered as an 800MHz Athlon. Check your motherboard maker for a CPU compatibility list.

Has anyone already setup a 2K3 server for running games? I'm planning on doing this for my LAN parties, but I'm unsure if the games will run on the OS reliably. Games like BF1942, Farcry, Sacred, Dungeon Siege, Freelancer, etc..

Radio Frequencies. My old boss had a pair of yamaha speakers w/sub that would pick up a local mexican radio station, and the speakers were turned off!

I would recommend looking into the MS Action Pack subscription. For $299 you get alot. The only "catch" to the Action pack is that you can't have more than 10 client pc's, and the subcription is only "good" for a year. Meaning you're supposed to stop using it after a year, but there is no enforcement of that. Renewal of the action pack is $199 a year.

There is a tool in the reskit folder on the Win98 CD. Msbatch. You can enter all setup options with this, and have a printers pre-installed, plus setup a few IE options. Install it and it will build the msbatch.inf file for you. Copy the win98 directory from the cd and put it on the HD somewhere. Then save the msbatch.inf file to the win98 directory when you are done with it. Now here is where my memory becomes fuzzy, since I haven't done it in so long. There is a 2nd tool in the reskit folder, or you may need to buy the full reskit, I forget what it's called but it let's you pre-install your drivers to the win98 folder you copied. You open the program, point the program to the inf file of the driver, and to the folder you copied of the setup files for 98. Now, for installing apps... I've never done that with 98, so I can't help you there.

Very good game graphics and all. Just played it Multiplayer at a LAN party last weekend, and I must say it was the most fun I've had playing an FPS. Assault game mode is great; not the same as assault in UT/2K4, but very good none the less. Kind of like a twist on CTF. I also like that it's not as fast as UT, but alot faster than say BFV or BF1942. The OIC gun just rocks.

Delayed Write Errors - Maxtor 200g - USB 2.0 ext
Justice replied to Spinman's topic in Hardware Hangout
Write Caching in XP is disabled on USB drives to allow imeddiate unplugging once the data has been "written". In 2K, you have to "Safely remove hardware" to do just that, because the data may not actually be there when you pull the plug. -
I believe he's reffering to the permanent shortcuts like My Documents, My network Places, My Computer, Trash Bin, etc....

Check this out, I thought I would try myself.

Not bad at all. I would change the angle for the drop shadow on the text. It's sticking outside the circle of the logo, unless you plan on cropping it off later... -
I'm not saying don't post about it, I simply don't want to get into it in this thread and hijack it from the the original poster. We can start up a new thread to discuss this, was what I meant.
-
So you're saying windows is an add-on for IE; OfficeXP and 2003 are add-on's for IE. This isn't the thread for this kinda of debate. I don't agree with your opinion and leave it at that.
-
It's not an "Add-on". It's a completely different optimized core that uses the IE .DLL's.

Multi-Tab, pop-up blocker, works with most toolbars for IE (Google) Easy to use Multi screen web-broswing (Only real useful if you run high res), open new window straight from clipboard, mouse-click navigation, plus more, and is basically IE (Meaning all the good and the bad things), Just use Avant Browser. Avant was on the market before firefox and Multitabbed browsing was one of it's selling points. I think it's funny that everyone assumes that it's a firefox only thing.

All depends on how well your OUs were setup. It can be really easy, or a pain in the arse. Guess you have the latter. Sometimes it's better to know the exact name of the group, then look at the members tab of the group instead of trying to find each user and see what group they belong too. Just depends on your needs. Do you need find all the members of a few groups, or do you need to find all the group memberships of some users? Depending on how big the company is, you could do it in a few hours or a few months.

Installing Norton Antivirus on Win2k3?
Justice replied to ProdigySim's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
I'm sorry you couldn't follow a thread. As LANJAN had posted, "AFAIK the only NAV that works on W2k3 is NAV corporate edition." I was ammending to his comment by adding, "Corp Ver 8.6 if memory serves me right. 8.1 won't install.". This serves to answer his question on NAV2K1 freaking out on install. He asks to get around this which you still have not answered, but instead follow the lead set by others by saying version 9.0 is the latest and go to prove that prathampl is confused as well. ProdigySim, there is a good reason why Win2K3 pops up the warning for software not registered to work on it. If you were able to install an AV program that is written a few years before the OS was, good chance the program would crash the OS. -
