  1. it says its a Linksys BEFN2PS4 Go to here: http://www.linksys.com/tech_helper/advanced.html This is a quick instruction on how to setup port forwarding. If you need further assistance, just post here again. Also let us know if you did it.
  2. One of your computers needs to be setup as a domain controller. Right now you are operating in workgroup mode. To start the wizard to setup your domain, goto Start > Run > and type in "dcpromo" without the quotes. Once the domain is setup, then you have to add the other pc to the domain.
  3. The "System Volume Information" folder added by NTFS5 (WinXP) cannot be removed from a partition/drive in Win2K (short of anything less than a format). For example, say you did a quick format on a drive that was currently in your XP box. You take it out and put it in your Win2K server. Even though you formatted the drive clean, by default XP creates the SVI folder (UNLESS, you have turned off system restore). You try to broswe into the folder to see what data is in it, you get access denied messages, even if you take ownership of the folder/drive. Not a big deal, you can just reformat it in Win2K... but what if you put a boatload of data on it to transfer to the server in the first place? It's not a real big problem.. just more of an annoyance problem.. but I've heard it leads to more problems down the road with defragging and disk quota's if you use them.
  4. You can only "own" drives/partitions/folders/files that reside on NTFS formatted space. FAT/FAT32 doesn't have these features.
  5. http://www.dyndns.org/ OR... for just $7.77 a month, you could get this webhost, and just upload your files to your ftp site with them. 1GB of spage, with 5GB daily transfer rate. [Edit] Nevermind the webhosting. DynDNS service is free. and nevermind the router support, you install a client program on the ftp machine, and it detects when your ip changes and sends the change info to DynDNS.org [/Edit]
  6. Bman, which linksys router do you have? Hydencity, You might be able to do it if your router supports DDNS (Dynamic DNS) service. You could buy a domain name and register it with a dynamic dns service. When your IP changes, DDNS updates as well, keeping you connected to your domain name.
  7. Sounds like it's formatted with NTFS. I've run into issues with NTFS v.5 (XP) in a system normally running NTFS v.4 (Win2K). You need to take ownership of the drive and all subfolders on it. It's an option located in the security tab when you look at the properties of the drive. Note this still may not work, as you might have to put the drive in a pc running xp, and have that one take ownership of the drive.
  8. TweakUI can redirect some of the "defined" folders, My Music is one of them.
  9. You need to forward port 21 to the ip of the T-NAS. You should give the T-NAS a static IP instead of DHCP assigned, so it doesn't by chance get a different IP sometime down the road.
  10. Sounds Like the host header solution provided by IIS. One IP, many websites.. only the defaulted website gets resolved by IP.
  11. Tadly, look at the name of the person who started the thread, and is currently talking to you. Now look at the name of the person who you quoted. dtmunir mutahir Close, but not the same.
  12. It's there in tweakui for Win9x/Win2K. Yes, It's been removed for XP.
  13. Take a course in the basics, then decide on an advanced editor. Fine tweaking in notepad is almost always a must. I prefer Dreamweaver MX to Frontpage.
  14. It most likey your winmodem.
  15. Sorry, it's a 4pt point font, so it'sonly looks correct as long as the font size is divisible by 4. With the exception of 4. so 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, etc...
  16. Try this. It's a 3pt font so you can set the size correctly. 04B_24__.TTF 04B_24__.TTF
  17. sweet. Post a link to the KB article.
  18. That's because they're not compressed. Well, not like jpg's do anyway.
  19. Tiny Term I've heard of.. used it A LONG time ago... I'm sure it's been revised since I used it. I'd say try contacting Century's tech support.
  20. Yup. Even groups get unique IDs. SID's to be exact. Even certain registry keys get SIDs.
  21. I was trying to point out for him to make sure he has a version of Office that can be slipstreamed in the FIRST place. If his copy requires activation, then it's a big slap in the face telling him it can't be done with his version regardless if it's on CD or HD.
  22. You want me to change a 24bit color png, to an 8 bit gif?. That's as bad as the compression flaws that the jpg's are producing. bleh.
  23. Have you by chance tried contacting the company that wrote the program for assitance? BTW, what program is this if you don't mind me asking?
  24. Not gonna happen. You would need a domain controller to make it work. Your problem is this: You are at workgroup level security. Each XP install has it's own unique id key for accounts. You want your account on XP1 to have permissions to a folder located in the XP2 installation. You can set this so that you, XP1\User (which has a unique id of 12345-11111-9999 as an example) has exclusive permissions. Now you boot to XP2, and you have an account named the same, User. It has the same password, but unfortunately, it has a different ID key (09876-99999-1111). Now if it was possible for you to boot both xp installs at the same time, then yes you could do it as the two OS's could communicate to swap the ID keys. A domain controller is simplest solution as the account would be located on a seperate pc and pushed down to each os. Now if by chance the folder you want to do this to is also a system folder, you've just hosed an install because now the system doesn't have rights to the folder.
  25. I was reading somewhere on a site that had an article about slipstreaming office updates and doing the admin install of office, that only the corporate volume licensing version of office will allow you to do the admin install. The retail version will not. I've got the CVE version office xp and 2K3 and I have copied the data to a HD, and then ran the setup from the HD to create an Admin install. Sounds to me like you've got a retail version. The one way to know for sure is that it needs to be activated after install.
