  1. Let me ask some clarifying questions. UltimateSilence, are you concerned about blocking inbound ports or outbound ports? Also, assuming you have a modem/router between your PC and the Net, (brand and model number?), it does seem that there is a big difference whether you are blocking the PC's ports or the router's ports. How one would possibly block the whole range of "dynamic" ports I have no idea. It does seem that you have to block the app instead. CoffeeFiend, I guess there are a few questions. Is it possible to block either the inbound or the outbound ports, of either the PC or the router, and does it matter? If not, why not? The security concern seems a valid one, but not being an expert in the field I have no idea how far one should take their concerns. There are obviously different opinions on the matter. Cheers and Regards
  2. These 2 links exist. Was it supposed to have been one of these? http://mimo.zxq.net/hfslip/hfslipfc-111116-2k120219.zip http://mimo.zxq.net/hfslip/hfslipfc-111116-2k120219b.zip Cheers and Regards
  3. And just out of curiosity, why didn't you ask this question on the forum where you found the script? Cheers and Regards
  4. If I understand you correctly, if you don't include any CABs then the error does not occur. But if you include some of them it does? Does it matter which CABs you include? If you can narrow it down to a particular CAB, that's one thing. If it doesn't matter which CAB, if it does it if you include ANY CAB, then that's another. The first points to an error with the CAB. The second points to an error with how the CABs are added. Cheers and Regards
  5. You might not be whining here either, but you are being repetitive. This is the exact same issue you posted about here - You were given two applications that should meet your needs: To which you responded: So it was suggested that you complain to your email provider, Earthlink, to see if they can resolve your issue. To which you responded: And now you're back again with the same post. At this point your posts are becoming spam. Cheers and Regards
  6. @DosCode, while it is very smart of you to break down a larger task into smaller pieces and attack them one at a time, when you are asking for help it would probably be useful to layout the entire job you are trying to accomplish. Since you are unfamiliar with some of the capabilities of the CMD script language, you might have broken the task down in ways that actually make the job harder. So lay the whole thing out for us. Then we'll help you make sure that you've broken it down appropriately and help you with each piece. Cheers and Regards
  7. Please. DosCode, go spend some time reading as many of the pages at http://ss64.com/ as you can, especially those listed here - http://ss64.com/nt/syntax.html for variable and command syntax, and here - http://ss64.com/nt/ for details and usage examples of the various CMD script commands. It will be well worth your time. I'm surprised that you have been tasked with a job that you seem unprepared for. While most of the tasks you are trying to accomplish seem simple to do in CMD scripts, once you are familiar with them, you might be better off using another programming language, one you are more familiar with. Is there a reason you have been asked to do this using CMD scripts? Cheers and Regards
  8. I believe that you have already been referred to the website "ss64.com", but you might want to read this page - http://ss64.com/nt/syntax-substring.html - which explains in detail how to "extract part of a variable (substring)". Cheers and Regards
  9. Why do you want to slipstream SP1 when you can legally download versions of Windows 7 with SP1 already integrated? See here - http://www.wincert.net/forum/index.php?/topic/8906-official-windows-7-sp1-disks/ - for different versions available, including different language versions. The links listed download directly from Digital River, Microsoft's online distribution partner for downloadable products. You will require your own valid key, of course. Cheers and Regards
  10. Uhh - Mim0? you need to fix your link. LOL I assume to this? - http://mimo.zxq.net/hfslip/hfslipfc-111116-xp120218.zip Cheers and Regards
  11. And have you tried to install a driver for the sound? Do you have a installation disc of any kind? Have you tried to look for drivers from the manufacturer's web site? What have you done besides post here and at the nvidia forums asking what to do even though you say you KNOW how to slipstream drivers? Have you tried Google? What have you done? When I tried to Google "acer drivers", I was directed here - http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers, which wasn't too helpful since when I pulled up ASPIRE m5641 it indicated that they were only providing drivers for Vista and Win7. But have you tried to simply update the driver through Device Manager and let it search Windows Update and see if MS already has a device driver on file? So before any of us here help you any further, help yourself and tell us what you've tried and your results. We'll then be glad to offer any other suggestions we might think of. And just out of curiosity, what did you do to be able to install XP? That might give us a further clue. Cheers and Regards EDIT - If Windows Update and the motherboard manufacturer's site (Acer) isn't any help for a driver for XP, then once you find out the exact sound chip that's in your system based on using the tool that Ponch suggested, you can try getting an XP driver from the chip manufacturer's site (Realtek or whatever).
  12. I understand you wanting to keep your AV running, but it is ALWAYS recommended to temporarily disable any AV program while using nLite, RVMi, or any integration/system building program. Besides, it should make the integration go quicker anyway. If you want to feel safer, do a complete scan of your system, disconnect any "extra" drives that are not needed during your build, disconnect from the internet, then disable all your AV programs before beginning your build. Immediately afterwards you can restart your AV, rescan your system just to be sure, then reconnect to the internet and hook back up any drives that you had disconnected. I know you've always kept the AV running before, but at this point in your trials, since you're "at a complete loss", it won't hurt to try it this way at least once. If nothing else you will have eliminated the problem that many of us think you have and you can say "I tried that and it didn't help". Also, since you say you removed the problem CAB and didn't try to slipstream it, try Geej's suggestion: Cheers and Regards
  13. By client, he means something like FileZilla, or one of the other FTP clients listed here - http://www.sharewarejunkies.com/winftp.htm Cheers and Regards
  14. Get a new, clean, legit, straight from MS source and start over. Cheers and Regards
  15. This guy made me laugh. Just joined today, apparently to post this, lists four "problems" he is having - only generally described or are more opinions than anything else, and some behaviors date back for a long, long time, but ends with - "But great work of course!" Cheers and Regards
  16. But, if I understand the OP's question, there's no reason to keep superseded updates on your install disc. Assuming we're talking about XP, to create a new install disc, you should always start with a clean Xp SP3 source, integrate the current version of your preferred update pack, add any additional updates/patches that apply to your system, add any additional apps you wish to have installed, make whatever removals that apply to you, add the necessary drivers, make and build the iso, burn and install. If he was talking about once you have installed your system, and new updates come out, do you need to remove the superseded updates before you install the new ones, then yes you are correct that removing the old updates before installing the new ones is not required. Cheers and Regards
  17. That's the one that came to mind for me, too. But I admit I've never used a speech recognition package. Cheers and Regards
  18. @drixomanbeta - I counted at least five times in this thread where Yzöwl asked you to do or report something specific, and you decided to do or report something different, always saying "but that shouldn't matter...". Yzöwl has decided, since you obviously feel you know what should or shouldn't be done, that you must not need any help, and I think everyone else here agrees with him. We will be curious to learn what you eventually find to be the problem Who knows? We might learn something. In the future, if you ask someone to help, and they graciously offer to give you advice, here or elsewhere: First - Take it. Do not edit it, do not change it, do not question it, do not try a shortcut, do not ask why, do not think, just do it and report exactly what happened. There are usually good reasons why you are being asked to do or report something specific. Then - Propose alternatives, ask questions, show what happens when you do it a different way. In the exchange of data, in both directions, we can both learn something. But if you won't listen to us, then why should we listen to you? Please let us know when you find a solution. Cheers and Regards
  19. In every line that has - %ProgramFiles(x86)%\IrfanView\i_view32.ini - change %ProgramFiles(x86)%\IrfanView\i_view32.ini to "%ProgramFiles(x86)%\IrfanView\i_view32.ini". Cheers and Regards
  20. Just consider Classic Shell as the same as porting it back from Vista, only better. Try it. You can always remove it if you really don't like it. Cheers and Regards
  21. Just curious - why would you want the option to install XP SP2 vs XP SP3? Do you have some piece of hardware or software that runs on SP2 but not on SP3? After all this time? I don't understand. Cheers and Regards
  22. That's the problem with removing things. In many cases they CAN'T just be put back. In this case I honestly haven't looked. Easiest and safest way is just redo it and don't take it out next time. Cheers and Regards
  23. So do we now have a complete summary with current How To, or are there still issues to be resolved? Cheers and Regards
  24. Well, I'm sure if the OP's needs are not met by the provided script, they'll either modify it using the resources provided or will post again with further questions and more details. Your points are taken, Yzöwl, and the OP should consider them. But since the OP's original "solution" was to erase them ALL, and since they are located in "c:\temp", the simplistic solution might very well suffice. Cheers and Regards
  25. This should do what you asked - Silently delete all folders and their contents in c:\temp of any arbitrary name, including allowing spaces in the name, but leaving the last modified folder in place with its contents intact. @ECHO OFF SETLOCAL ENABLEEXTENSIONS FOR /F "tokens=* skip=1" %%G IN ('dir c:\temp /b /ad /o-d') DO rd /s /q "c:\temp\%%G" Cheers and Regards LOL - figures jaclaz would beat me to it - AND with a full explanation!! There are many good batch reference sites, but this one is easy to use - http://ss64.com/nt/
