  1. 5... Cut him in half with a lightsaber, then go away whistling some song, hands tucked in the pockets, pretending nothing has happened.
  2. You mean: by right-clicking an .INF or merging a .reg... or by direct editing of the registry? Is there a separate .INF for the PCI Bus Enumerator? If so, what's its name? Or are you talking about SWENUM.INF?
  3. [...] Maybe it's time to read it again. I'd say so. Penguin's got a 1992 translation by Clarence Brown that's really great, and easy to find. But I'm sure you'll find it much more depressing nowadays... although this is the right time to read it. All excellent points, not to mention the many possibilities that putting your life on the Web presents for blackmail. Sure. Those are the main points. On the long run it means less, not more, freedom.
  4. Have any of you ever read Yevgeny (aka Eugene) Zamyatin's "We"? In "1984", Big Brother (or rather his servants) is watching everyone, while in "We" everyone watches everyone else all the time, because all buildings have glass walls! Things like Facebook and the cloud (and maybe tweeter too) do make walls become glass, in a sense... IMO we're much nearer "We" than "1984".
  5. I confirm I did that precisely. Changed both LogPixels and no other value whatsoever besides them. Did it just once, not twice or more times. And no effect was seen before rebooting once. Now, while I have no interest in continuing to investigate further this matter, I do suggest using the Control Panel while monitoring with RegShot 2 Unicode, so as to ascertain exactly which keys are changed on each case.
  6. Attaboy! That's the way to do it!
  7. Yes. But brute-forcing rar passwords (any arbitrary case-variable symbol-alphanumeric passwords of 8 or more characters) may take hundreds of years, even if you have a pretty impressive computer farm, unless you know a lot about the password beforehand. See: this and this. Doing it with 9x/ME only makes it more difficult, because this is best done by massively parallel computing, to have a chance of success.
  8. You've probably made some mistake on entering the path into the registry. One common error is to forget that in some circunstances, the backslashes must be doubled. I'm not saying that is precisely the mistake you've made, because my crystal ball is out for maintenance (again!), so this is just one example of one (out of many) possible mistake.
  9. Remember when Orkut, then Facebook, first became hits among the young? That's when I first though "those places will destroy privacy even if they don't actively nose into people's infos". The only thing surprising about PRISM is its eventually actually getting in the news... unless, of course, it's all a smoke-screen hiding even bigger things...
  10. Give the SFCFILES.DLL you can extract from this package a try.
  11. In any case, esp. since Tihiy's kept mention to it in his own signature, I'd advise to keep Win7Ex4Win8 in the list... I do think here is one case where erring on the side of most inclusiveness is preferable than the reverse. Just my 2¢, of course.
  12. Opera v. 12.15 build 1748 on XP SP3 does not lock up, but doesn't work either... I get:
  13. Sony's out there since 1946. One can say anything about them, but one has to recognize they're resilient. Can that be said about MS? Perhaps... but it sure is not a given, and they're sure doing their best to kill their own goose that lays golden eggs.
  14. Of course, the best way to thwart an Accoustic Kitty is by using a cone of silence full-time...
  15. Those two settings together sure do work, and are enough because Win XP is case insensitive while interpreting the registry. Thanks jaclaz, you do rock!
  16. Strange bulges on carpets is another matter attogether, but real tiny holes in walls or floors (or, much better, ceilings), only the most paranoid may notice (and just that fractions of the most paranoids having a vision good enough to see them up there has a chance of noticing them, BTW). Burrowing drones rock!!!
  17. I was here thinking... why not burrowing drones? Simpler to power and to keep in place (no need to hover) and equally efficient to spy on one, right?
  18. Yes, I know we're on the xp forum. LogPixels exists on the plain vanilla XP SP3 registry in a fresh install. So, AFAIK, it should work all right. But I had never tried it, having just read jaclaz's post shortly before reading this thread... even so I decided to give a link to it, because it might be the sought solution. Yet, I've just tried it and I confirm xmf's finding: it does not work on XP (or something else is needed in addition to it, to make it work).
  19. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\FontDPI jaclaz explains it here.
  20. Before going any further, do try 1600 x 900. I think you'll be surprised how much that improves things (at least for me it sure does, although here YMMV, of course!).
  21. SQL Errors gone!!! But Driver Errors still appear, now and then... "This is not a problem with IP.Board but rather with the SQL server", for sure.

  22. By "artefacts" you were trying to mean the (solder-filled) soldering holes and markings, like what is inside the red line in the attachement???
  23. Is this directed at me? I'm still alive just a little bit busy Sure it is! You've been missed.
  24. Good to see you around! I was wondering where had you disappeared to... Welcome back! Cheers!
