Man charged with beating fellow MMORG player to death
Tarun replied to ripken204's topic in Funny Farm
LOL! -
Actually, it would get you reported to your ISP. Using it to get around school Internet filters isn't right either.
-
I'd recommend another suite. ZoneAlarm is constantly having issues and have since their days as v2.x
-
Outpost Pro does has a 30 day free trial.
-
Perhaps try signing on Windows Messenger and change your name there; then relog on with WLM?
-
It's a very simple command that can be run in a command prompt or any program can change them. HijackThis, Spybot S&D, RogueRemover Pro; many applications can. HijackThis and RogueRemover are made in Visual Basic, a very easy programming language and Spybot is made with Delphi. So anything can change attributes. That link is awesome cluberti! Thanks for posting it. A common mistake that so many do is disable their DNS Client service. What's worse is so many "malware prevention" websites recommend this if you use their Hosts file.
-
Wow so what would be a good free Firewall?? As of this time, I personally would say Comodo and Outpost Pro.
-
One possibility is a bloated Hosts file trying to search through all of the data in it, since you use it to block ads and more which a misuse for the Hosts file.
-
No, you don't need Windows Firewall. Unfortunately Outpost Free isn't actually compatible with Windows XP. You can switch safely to Comodo.
-
Blocking sites with the Hosts file is not what it is actually meant for. It's also unfortunate that the Hosts file is not a safe method of blocking malicious websites, as malware can very easily edit all of the Hosts.

They may not give you support for a trial; but that usually varies per company. They have no forums either, only this: Technical Support: support@hide-ip-soft.com Have you checked your Firefox settings?
-
You'll always get fast, accurate support from the company. Are you using a trial or did you purchase the software?
-
Have you contacted the support team of Hide IP Platinum?

Jeremy has the best advice. You could either wait until you have the time to do it or take it to a tech shop. If you do have someone work on your computer, I would recommend you stick with either a tech shop, or someone you know who is experienced with computers and you can trust. If you opt to do it yourself, remember that it doesn't all have to be done at once. You can do it at small intervals over a span of time.

Sorry, had the wrong site posted. I corrected it to the accurate site.

Semi bad virus trouble + Highjackthis log
Tarun replied to tal ormanda's topic in Malware Prevention and Security
Yeah, but in my Anti-Malware packages it's not included. It's even been removed from my website. The guide (and the packages) need to be updated. I'm attempting to work on a nice utility to cut down on the packages sizes. -
Semi bad virus trouble + Highjackthis log
Tarun replied to tal ormanda's topic in Malware Prevention and Security
Unfortunately About:Buster has (and can) have times where it will wipe out the entire System32 directory. -
Formatting is always the last option.

I've seen that on numerous occasions and often just changing the theme or it's style/color will fix it. If you do find a fix please do share it with us.

I believe it was the www.powertogether.com website that was giving away free Vista Business and free Office 2007. I just got my Vista Business in the mail yesterday. Did anyone else manage to get theirs?
-
Every program I've seen has the focus rectangle, not all of them have highlighting colors (certain themes lack them too). Tabbing around in Firefox and many other applications only shows the focus rectangle. You remove that and you have no way of knowing where your focus is. :\ Trust me, you really want to keep your focus triangle. Should you ever have hardware issues with your mouse port (USB or PS2) or even your mouse; you will really need that focus triangle. I just say this from a been there/done that experience. Don't get me wrong, removing it could be nice visually. But should you ever need it, you may regret removing it. I'm just a bit cautious as I've needed it frequently at work on some machines.

net user YOUR_USERNAME YOUR_PASSWORD Example: net user ablafontain mywindowspassword You may also want to try Start > Run > control userpasswords2 Advanced Tab > Advanced User Management > Advanced Go under Users (folder) What users are enabled and which are disabled?

It's more than safe to get rid of Symantec's "anti-virus". In fact many recommended it. You can post a HijackThis log or any other log with the codebox BBCode tags. You can remove Norton via Add/Remove programs, and then run the Norton Removal Tool to get rid of all the leftovers. You should make use of SpywareBlaster to block tracking cookies, and Ad-Aware and Spybot would remove them. For all of the programs you listed, I would carefully remove one item at a time and watch for any ill effects. The Canon item I would keep however. You can also use CCleaner's Issues scan to see if it will remove any of those entries as they may be old/previously removed items. I saw on the MajorGeeks forum a MSFN member told you to go to MajorGeeks. I have no idea why they would send you elsewhere; but I can assure you we have many experts here who are qualified and work in the field of malware cleanup and removal, including pc tech support. Here's some information on the Avast Anti-Virus. Should you need any other features that Norton SystemWorks had, simply ask and we can find you a freeware replacement.
