Something has taken over the .themes files.....OMFG Help!!!
XPerties replied to XPerties's topic in Windows XP
Ok, Just an update......We applied the reg patch and it restored his themes files to give M$ control back but something I forgot to mention before was a associated promblem with this whole sitution. If you click desktop (Im at work so Ill try to remember), properties, and I think themes.....Its where the effects button is under there somewhere. He can not get access to this feture. It will not open at all. Again all this started with that DA was installed. But Like I said everything was given M$ control back but still unable to gain access to the effects tab. Any idea? -XPerties -
Well I call anything a piece of s*** that doesnt let you change your way of computing. all those pre-built computers suck! You have no control over your bios never less come with crappy MB, and hard drives. Yes IBM are good but what are the models. If you were to check the models out you would see there low end models. There has not nor ever will be a compaq computer built with top high quilty hardware, This also applies to HP, SONYO, and anything you can buy at any computer electronic store. You want a computer that will blow your mind or allow you to really get in control. Spend a little time researching hardware and one day call up a computer store and read everything off from a list that you have. hahaha....Youll get a response like "we dont deal or carry stuff like that, but we have a good ata 66 drive"! -XPerties

XP corp that you probaly heard about is a cracked warez version of XP pro that does not need to be activated. There both the same unless your version is retail (bought from a store) then you have to activate it. -XPerties

Breaking news......read about it here: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/...in/MS01-055.asp Tech TV says to avoid any promblems you can do the following untill M$ comes out with a patch: IE/Tools/internet option/security/custom settings/scroll down to bottom and disable active scripting for added secuirty also disable java scripting -XPerties

Nope, TweakUI is a-ok, Just the user using it may screw things up, so be careful when going through Tweakui and make sure the tweaks you applying are a need base not a "Oh this looks cool" kinda thing......that will get you into trouble. -XPerties

First off [b:73dbfe11e7]seal[/b:73dbfe11e7] do me a real big favor and take time out and read the forums rules. You can find a link in my sig below. Your post was edited. Secondly I had this same problem, but mine turned out to be the firewall. It was blocking access to different websites. Im not sure why but I was guessing because those had some flash of activex control on them. Its worth a shot to try it out. Turn off XP firewall and anything else you may have running and see if you can connect to them then. -XPerties Also look at your internet security setting and have them on medium when you do this.

Well theres your promblem you installed tweakXP.......XPerties says "baddddddddddd TweakXP"! That program itself will screw things up in XP.Yuck! Bad program! -XPerties

I run a Pent III 1GHZ overclocked @ 1250. Now the old saying goes for upgrading, [b:74dc9055d4]If you cant double your performance Dont upgrade[/b:74dc9055d4].....But you have to understand upgrading your CPU is not what makes a fast and stable computer. You have to look at your ram. What kind of ram do you have? Is it cas 2, 3? What speed can you overclock it at....pc133, pc150? It alot more than just your cpu. -XPerties

Ok this is the deal.....girlfriends father install Desktop arcitect and since then he has lost the ability to enable clear fonts or anything cool that XP has provided for him, In addition his standard windows xp theme (the grassy hills) has disappearded. Ok so he uninstalled DA and I sent him my .themes file to replace his or put in the ones he was missing. But all the files are being possesed by this dam DA. If you notice all the themes files should be controlled by "windows theme file" but his arent. After replacing mine with his the again were taken over by DA. Now if you right click and choose open with, it doesnt give him a choice to choose windows. Does anyone have any other advice. Oh by the way he tried to roll back and that failed, why is unknow windows just said it was unable to restore:mad: . Thanks everyone -XPerties PS. Stay away from DA!

I ran it last night with out a promblem....My normal start up time was running about 55sec to 1min 5 sec, after I ran it and followed the direction real close my boot time is almost allways exzact. Now Im at 41 sec. So it has not only keep it stable and set at a degree it has also increased my time for booting. Then I went in and OC my system and I managed to stay at a even time of around 22-27 secs for boot up. [b:76b999c6e2]drewdatrip[/b:76b999c6e2] - after you did the two boots, did you click file, and open and pick the very last .bin file, then click optimize? If you did, I have no clue then sorry:cry -XPerties
