Drew, the last time I went to a CompUSA, it was because they had advertised a free tape backup with the purchase of a disk drive. Well, they had the disk drive but had run out of the tape back ups and wanted to give me a rain check or some such thing on that. I said thanks but no thanks and haven't been back since! In addition to Best Buy we also have a Fry's Electronics nearby which is really good for purchasing separate components for us do it yourselfers ! Also PC Clubs but they don't have a very large inventory :cry. I agree XPerties, it is very nice to see the hardware and software vendors finally rolling out there wares for XP! Drewdatrip, you are right, I didn't choose the Yamaha so much for the speed (24x) as I did the fact that it was and is 'designed for XP.' I don't have those specs for you just yet as I just got it last night and burned my first CD this morning . I can tell you it is fast and relatively quiet from what I am used to hearing coming from the fast CD drives! Suffice it to say, I am very pleased with my Yamaha . MrSin...[/color:dce7329183]
  3. OK, I saw the problem, 2 disks (100G and 20G) and only one recognized. I see that the problem was resolved but I do not see what resolved it? Did I miss it?? OK - I just didn't read far enough into the thread, my bad :grump. It was the jumpers ! Thanks! MrSin...[/color:9445199c9a]

I thought I would share with everyone that I just purchased the Yamaha LightSpeed 3, 24x write, E-IDE Internal CD-RW Recorder "Designed for Windows XP" and it works marvelously ! I got it at Best Buy for $199. Prior to this I had an HP CD-Writer 7200 series that I never could get to work under Windows XP (or Windows 98 for that matter) although HP claims they are working on and updated driver <sigh>... Anyway, I thought I would share. Oh! It came with a bunch of software but the actual burning apps are NERO :lilwink MrSin...[/color:c8826951ef]
