  1. crap. I hope it wasn't that. But then how come the same problem was affecting unrelated new school computers, not even with the same graphics card? I find it hard to believe that all those computers' graphics cards were broken.
  2. The glitch is still occuring, even with all ATi stuff removed! So is it the graphics card itself?
  3. Ok, back. I had a feeling it might have been the ATi driver (the latest). I believe though that it hasn't been updated since 2006, so waiting for a new version is probably futile. Safe mode was inconclusive. The same glitch occured, but an ATi service had loaded, so I'm not sure.
  4. Ok, I was a little vague, so I will expand on the question: Is it like the process that is done in Fred Vorck's fileset, or it is simply equivalent to turning on "Classic Explorer Mode" in GPE?
  5. Can someone summarize exactly what happens when "web view" is selected to be removed?
  6. Thank you. I will be able to add the DirectX related hotfix to nLite's slipstream list without having to include Direct X 9?
  7. Does Windows XP Service Pack 3 include any version of DirectX?
  8. I am formatting my PC soon, and planning to use nLite to make a custom CD. Here are the key points: - The source CD is a Windows XP SP1 (Version 2002) "Upgrade" - SP3 will be slipstreamed - All available hotfixes will be slipstreamed. - Some unnessesary drivers and components will be removed. - WMP 10 will be slipstreamed depending on whether or not this is possible. My first question directly relates to the final point. Does the Windows XP source CD I mention above include WMP 9 or WMP 10? If the former, is it possible to slipstream WMP 10 in a similar fashion to the method of slipstreaming WMP 11 included in the FAQ portion of the nLite Website. My second question refers to the Windows Update 951698. Since I will be installing the latest DirectX after the installation, should I exclude this update, or is it safe to include it? My third question is far more broad, but I need to know what not to remove, if only with a broad idea. My computer's hardware is as follows - Samsung SH-S162A CD/DVD burner drive - Generic CD-ROM drive - ACPI PC - Maxtor 6Y060L0 Hard Drive - ATi Radeon 9000 Series Graphics card - Generic Floppy Drive - USB 1.0/1.1 - Microsoft LifeCam VX-1000 - Standard Keyboard - USB wired mouse - Samsung Syncmaster 960BF Monitor - D-Link DFE-530TX PC Fast Ethernet Adapter - SiS 900-Based PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter - AMD Athlon XP 2100+ - Creative SB Live! Value Sound card I will be either using the drivers included with Windows, or install drivers after install. Is there anything that I definitely should not replace?
  9. I think your thinking of the new WGA feature in SP3 taken from Vista. Though I don't want that either...
  10. Heck no. An upgrade to Windows Me from 98SE is more pointless than XP to Vista. Heck yeah! Why isn't there more Windows 95 development here anyway?
  11. What exactly are the fonts used for the following Windows boot screens: - Windows 3.11fWG/3.51 - Windows 95/NT4/98 - Windows Me/2000 - Windows XP ?
  12. This was true for version 1.0 of 98lite. But as the previous post stated, 98lite now can remove IE while preserving the original 98 shell, just as Fred Vorck's tutorial allows you to remove IE 5 from 2000 without switching to a different shell. I believe that the document meant that switching to the 95 shell further removes IE.
  13. I changed SearchSlowFiles to 1, since the rest of them were already 1. Then I logged off and on. It still only searches Documents and Settings, plus a handful of other folders. Example: I search WINNT (to see if it can find WINNT.BMP in the Windows directory): Results: Luckily I have Agent Ransack so this is only a minor issue.
  14. My XP search is broken. It won't search outside of C:\Documents and Settings, unless I specifically specify a directory. Is there someway to fix this? I am not using the Search Assistant (it is OFF); it uses the classic (2000) search instead.
  15. What is ProTAB exactly? EDIT: Never mind. It sounds intriguing. I'll have to try it.
  16. Hmm. Perhaps with a few changes to the registry, it may be possible to "fool" QQ into thinking IE is installed. I highly recommend to you man that you stick with 95B (OSR2). 98, even with 98lite, is still much slower on that laptop. Believe me, I've tried it on the American version of the laptop (Hitachi M-1200) as I told you earlier. First things first though. Get the utility "Dependency Walker" at this site [http://www.dependencywalker.com/] and will see what QQ really requires.
  17. With the free 98lite version, you can uninstall IE without changing to the Windows 95 Shell. Though the Windows 95 Shell is much more efficient and recommended.
  18. Oh, I didn't mean shell extensions. I was refering to the shell enhancement option you could turn off in TweakUI 1.33, which resulted in most of the web integration being turned off, including the Favourites menu.
  19. If I installed it, would it screw up my XP install?
  20. I was using TweakUI 1.33 on Windows 2000, and noticed it had the ability to turn off "Shell Enhancements", a feature I liked when I used to use Windows 98. I tried Tweak UI 2.10 in Windows XP, but unfortuately, it doesn't have this or some other features that were including in version 1.33. I know 1.33 was designed for 95/98/NT/Me/2000, but is it also compatible with Windows XP?
  21. Most likely, it's because WMM is really crappy, and can't save files that are about 18 min, take or give. Sometimes, closing and reopening helps. but for the most part, you are out of luck. For the future though, you may want to try "DebugMode Wax".
  22. Actually, the eject was successful. To prove this, double-click on the Removable drive after ejected, and Windows should give an error similar to when you try to open the floppy icon with no floppy disk. Once you unplug the drive, the icon should disapear.
  23. Lol. Yep, same machine, right down to the colour of the cabinet and the placement of the "Intel Inside" Pentium sticker. Since that is the case, I have a few questions specifically for you: - Did you replace the orignal CD drive, or do you still have the original one? If it is the orignal one, does it have a problem reading burnt CD-Rs? And if that is the case, have you found a solution to this problem?; - Is yours equipped with an infared device, and if so, do you know where I could find a compatible driver or software for Windows 95 OSR 2.1?; - Do you know the model name/number? I have looked all over the cabinet but have not been able to find one; - Does yours suffer from crappy screen refresh, in which the mouse streaks across the screen? If not, did you find a way to fix it?; and finally - Do you know what operating system was originally installed on these systems? Though I suspect Windows 95. Thanks
