  1. This seemed like the most logical name for it. Core Duo -> Core 2 Duo -> Core 3 Duo.
  2. When is the Wolfdale supposed to be released? And what type of socket will this little monster require? Haven't found much news. All I found is that its supposed to be out in Q4 2007, but that's it. And will this require a new chipset too?
  3. win2k vs tweaked XP. Win2K loses. I installed them on a laptop. Pentium 2 300mhz with 64mb ram, and some cheap one meg grahics chipset. XP ran decent. Win2k not so much. Now a tweaked Win2K vs XP..... Used nLite to tweak.
  4. Are any of these LCD monitors actually 32-bit? Or do they take a 32-bit source image and downsample it to 24-bit for "performance", like super fast response time and refresh rates.
  5. 1. Bragging rights. 2. More screen real estate. (fantasstic for photo editing and manipulation and cad which are hobbies of mine) 3. HD video. Full 1080p (and a bit) for HD DVD & BluRay. 4. Videogames. But not at HD. I'll cut down the res to 1/4 of the original. 1920 x 1200 -> 960 x 600 for gaming with full antialiasing so it doesn't look jaggy and resizes well on screen. (even upsampling of source image). That and I'm not getting a monster card like an 8800 for it, so it has to be lower res anyway. But yeah, that is still very pricy. I'm just hoping the price is due to the newness factor. Its the highest end model so they price it at a premium even though it doesn't cost that much to produce. Like the 22". Its less than half the price but almost the same specs. So prices have to plummet on the 24" sooner or later.
  6. Yes. But if you overclock a regular dual core it will be faster than a quad while producing about the same heat (if not actually much less), plus its cheaper.
  7. Looking at this monitor: http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetai...6756&catid= (Main Page with all listings): http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/subclass....ge=0&sort=3 Its 24" Wide. 1920 x 1200 resolution. Largest my desk will support and largest I found. Is there such a thing as a 26" monitor? Is this a good deal? (Prices are in Canadian) Or would it be wiser to go for a slightly smaller one at a significantly cheaper price? If it seems like a ripoff, what about a TV instead? An HDTV on my desk instead of a monitor. I'm not really looking for resolution (probably won't get a videocard that can push that much resolution anyway), so pixel size isn't a concern as long as its not obscenely large. Input please.
  8. About time! Now lets see some detailed benches to see what AMD has been cooking up all this time.
  9. Maybe. But I would still bet on a blazing fast dual core rather than a slower quad core (and not even a real quad at that.) Plus, the dual core will run alot cooler. So you can overclock it, unlike the 'quad' which already runs hot.
  10. Meh. By that time there will be a E6800 on the market. Much faster than a Q6600. An overclocked E6700 beats an overclocked Q6600. Not only that but most games are getting to be more dual core now. Quad is not even starting to be used. It would be a waste of money in my opinion. I'd rather get a top of the line dual core.
  11. aaaahhh! You sell them! Anyways, how many boards you get back from each brand? For example, of the DFI sold per year, how many die and are to be returned? And what about ASUS? Surely to have that many bad ones mean you must sell them in huge numbers.
  12. You know... if you go through so much hardware in a couple of years.. chances are you don't know how to use it. 36 boards asus + 9 boards msi = 45 broken motherboards Dude. WTF?
  13. I got one built in 2001. Still perfectly fine. And its running with a small chunk of the board missing, I guess its not an important part.
  14. Q6600: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16819115017 $521 E6600: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList....amp;x=0&y=0 $223 E6700: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList....scription=E6700 $317 Its not 50 bucks more. Its double a E6600. And you don't get double the performance neither. I'd get a E6700 or a E6800 when it comes out. No point in wasting money for inferior parts (inferior for the price) Some benchmarks: http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/q6600/8.htm That and its a hot one. Uses double the power. Runs at about 105W to 125W. Since after all, its two CPUs glued together.
  15. So what's the whole thing with Barcelona then? http://www.legitreviews.com/article/426/1/ http://64-bit-computers.com/amd-quad-core-...na-opteron.html Isn't Barcelona a real quad CPU? So are they scrapping it?
  16. No. I expect a battery of well carried out tests that lead to a real conclusion.
  17. Its actually a double dual core CPU. The two halves interface over the FSB. Its not a real quad core. Its a little faster than a dual core though. Not as much as you would expect from a real quad.
  18. try VLC. go inti the settings and change the output to DirectX video out. That will give the card more to do instead of the CPU doing all the work.
  19. The sky is also blue. What do you mean by that? Is this the standard type of warranty for accessories? Or is this BS? Don't batteries and chargers come with some sort of minimum warranty?
  20. Just went to Best Buy, wanted a laptop. Compaq brand. Salesman said manufacturer warranty only covers one year parts. And not accessories, like battery and charger. Absolutely no warranty on that. How accurate is this? Also, it comes with Vista pre-loaded. Can I choose not to accept the license agreement for Vista and get some kind of refund on it? From the manufacturer or Microsoft? And lastly... WTF is up with these shiny screens? They have a mirror finish. I notice its the standard nowadays. What's the point? It glares in your eyes like mad. Anything I can do about this? Its really hard on the eyes.
  21. I need a hd drive for a Thinkpad 380z laptop. How do I find out if whatever one I get is compatible? Is there some sort of setting in the bios that limit the capacity of the drive? The cappacity that it will support? And no. Getting an exact model of the original factory installed drive is not an option. Very rare.
  22. Terrible. Absolutely terrible. The second link is a news release. Contains info about the features the card supports, and the first link is a "benchmark" but it does not have any no comparison to other cards. Its not a proper bench, at all. Its a complete joke, and its in jaoanese too. (the link off the main page goes to the forum with the benchmarks.) I wouldn't ever make my buying decisions on something like this. Hasn't been released and properly measured up to the rest. And an obscure bench by a Japanese dude does not count.
  23. Haven't found any benches. And if there are 3Dmark is the worst type. How about some real benchmarks instead of some buggy synthetic ones that are CPU dependent?
  24. Same here. The more boards on the market (and new tech too) the more options I have of making a decision that works for me. PLus. I'm really drooling (if the benches are as nice as they should) for that Dual HD2600XT card. Its two cards in one. 2 Cards in one: http://www.tcmagazine.com/comments.php?shownews=15070
  25. Yes. Thats very accurate, especially from an Intel rep. [/sarcasm] Maybe its true, maybe it isn't. Its not released yet. That's okay, I'm not a hardcore AMD fan. I just like their products cause they're real nice for the price. I have a few of their CPUs and very satisfied. Hope Barcelona is as good as they say it is, that's all I want. Some good hardware for a good price. AMD usually delivers that. Plus I bought AMD stock so I'll be REAL p***ed if its a flop. But for a different reason.... money.
