  1. You need to do a fresh install. Your OS has collected alot of junk over the years from installs, re-installs, updates from Microsoft on top of each other.... etc. Any solutions here will improve the performance, but not as much as a clean install of the system. Begin to back up everything. You have alot of stuff, so I would begin by organizing everything and make a list of what you want to keep. Bookmarks, important files, passwords... etc. We have lots of people visiting MSFN. I'm sure you can find someone that can satisfy you.
  2. ^ What he said. You broke it in Disk Management, and you should be able to fix it the same. It should be listed as unallocated space. Let us know if that works. Otherwise there might be another issue.
  3. This, I don't understand. When you talk to the respective person's relatives and friends, you say "their loss". The family's loss, the wife's loss.. etc. What about the person who passed away? They lost everything. Where does this saying come from?
  4. Do you have multi-processor/multi-core enabled in BIOS?
  5. Then you missed the part of my post after, where I mention the same thing. Yeah, all right. That's a better way of saying it.
  6. That's what you get for buying an OEM computer. It works, and it has warranty but don't expect anything. This is a little risky, and I'm not sure how effective it is but I would find the type of motherboard you have. If its made by someone other than ACER, then go to their website and download the appropriate BIOS. Check XtremeSystems they can help with this. If the board is not a 100% match then its a custom ACER type and you should leave it alone. Do your homework into BIOS flashing before attempting anything like this.
  7. Not only fans but temperature as well. Also, check the power supply as well. Make sure the fan works properly and it not clogged with dust.
  8. Yes you do. It might not make a big difference on the 8600GT because it uses less bandwidth, but on the HD4870 it does.
  9. I didn't even know what this thread was about. Way to write a descriptive title.
  10. Yes, but there's more to it. Makes ense. This is what update packs are for. Check RyanVM forums. While on paper its a convenient idea, people would get even more confused with all these discs flying around. Also, if you have a Vista disk with SP1 and some updates, and SP2 comes around chances are it won't install due to all sorts of compatibility issues from the updates. Service Packs are a bunch of carefully selected and modified updates in a bundle. Installing them on top of the already installed updates is sure to break something.
  11. This is what I could find about the 630i: http://www.overclock3d.net/reviews.php?/cp...x_motherboard/6 Test was done with a Q6600 and OCZ DDR2-800. No mention of size. Your system seems to have a normal bandwidth for the hardware. Here's the real probelm. Your 800mhz ram is no different than 667mhz ram because you have to configure it properly. Your 800mhz ram is probably downcloked to 667mhz as it normally happens. Your CPU is bottlenecking the bandwidth. Here's what you need to do to get more out of your memory (and your system as a result): 1. Overclock the FSB of the processor. Lower the multiplier and crank up the FSB. 2. Set the ram to a 1:1 ratio. FSB:DDR2. 3. Get help from an OCing forum. Go to XtremeSystems and they will show you some safe settings to use. With DDR2-800 ram you can, and should run it on a 400mhz FSB. DDR2 stands for dual data rate, so divide whatever frequency it says by 2.
  12. You also did not mention what kind of CPU you have and the motherboard type/chipset. All important factors. My system is pushing 6500mb/s with default settings on a E8400 and a P45chipset. Memory at 667mhz speed.
  13. Not necessary, stop thinking negative. How is that negative.

    Asks for disc 1

    So insert disc one.
  15. Yes. Get a MSDN subscription or you can get a student discount on Vista. They offer DVD images as well as licenses. Hotfixes you can get from Microsoft in bulk with MBSA and SP1. BTW you can also get killer discouts on other MS software if you look around. Cheapest I've seen is Office 2007 Pro for $80. If you like it, and you use it then buy it.
  16. That may be but its a solid architecture and production. OP: Yes, AMD systems do have better memory bandwidth because of the on-die memory controller inside the CPU. Here is more info: http://www.anandtech.com/memory/showdoc.aspx?i=2800&p=3 You assume that both Intel and AMD hardware is exactly the same, and that Microsoft supports one over the other. That's the only way for your statement to make any sense. It doesn't. Different architectures, exact same Operating System. Which do you think makes a bigger difference? Also check you BIOS settings.
  17. Find their forum and ask a question. You assume people here use that application.
  18. Yes. Unless it offers PAE support.
  19. And they're suprised why people don't buy this crap.
  20. Vista changes some things. By default it searches indexed locations. If it doesn't find it then it flips you the bird. You need to go search for something (it won't find it),then click advanced search, then search location computer or C: instead of indexed locations, then click the search button near the bottom.
  21. Problem: Computer doesn't start. It's not windows. I know this because ________ ?? Solution: **ck it. Buy a new one. Can't go wrong with that logic. You might want to check the fans, as well as the temperatures in BIOS before chucking it. When the CPU overheats or the CPU fan stops working, the system shuts down to avoid damage and a possible fire hazard. This would explain why its shutting down so quickly the second time. The CPU is already pre-heated and when you turn it on again, it shuts itself off quickly to avoid bursting into flames. If its not the CPU, check the North Bridge as well as your videocard since they can also overheat.
  22. http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksi...-All-Categories You can get keys online... i'd just go for the new keyboard though That's awesome! Buddy of mine lost the little hinge off the key, now there's a solution.
  23. Which slot is rated for 16x speed? Look it up in the manual. Plug it into that slot.
