  1. After some accident trouble, I'm putting together a low-power security system (with cameras) for my vehicle. I need a very efficient power supply for the main system. Where should I look? I checked the mp3car forums, but I am looking for something with less power. 100Watts absolute maximum. Highest efficiency possible (within reasonable price) for consumers.
  2. Little more info. Its the nForce drivers. It 'takes over' the write caching. Its only letting me enable it using the IDE controller settings. Bootvis is still giving me trouble about it.
  3. I think its MINLOGON causing it. Anybody have a similar experience?
  4. Seriously. The format is almost dead. Few people use it now.
  5. When I go to the device manager, I click on the disk properties and I cannot select to enable or disable disk write caching. It is greyed out for me. Is there another means to check if it is enabled? BTW. I did use XPlite on my system. I'm not sure if it is relevant.
  6. The wine dispenser needs some WINE. http://www.winehq.org/
  7. No one like use Real Player!!! Real Player dead. Use MP3, OGG, or WMA!! OGG free and best. MP3 most popular. WMA second popular. Get?
  8. 1. Try it anyway. It might work. 2. Get FFDshow. It allows Windows Media Player to do all the formats you're talking about. Except MOV. You need QuickTime Alternative if you want to play that. It takes less space, and uses less CPU, and memory than QuickTime and does the same thing. FFdshow: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/FFDShow.htm QT alt: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/QuickT...Alternative.htm Real Player Lite: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Real_A...native_Lite.htm These will work through WMP6/8/9/10/11!! That's all you need. Except for Real Player. No one uses it anymore. But its still an option.
  9. Do a search. Video Screensaver. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en http://www.analogx.com/CONTENTS/download/system/xpvss.htm
  10. Rivatuner - http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=163 Tweak all kinds of GPUs. v2.06 is a little over 2.0mb. v2.0 still applies though!
  11. Try RockXP. It can back up and restore your Windows activation. http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4138.html Don't know about the rest. Give it a shot. Try 3.0 or 4.0beta
  12. True. It comes with all sorts of plugins and skins. Very customizable.
  13. Is the Nero BackItUp utility reliable? And can it make bootable restoration media?
  14. This is the weirdest thing I have seen so far. Follow the link to see the computer simulated action!! Though my beat is usually Japan, this item from China was just too weird to pass up. How weird is too weird? Try "beyond Japanese weird", and that's saying something! The Breast Massage Robot is the subject of a patent application for a robotic device which, according to the developers, is "capable to give physical massage to human breast the way professional massagers do." Wait a minute, there are professional breast massagers?? I don't recall taking that college course... at least, not on campus. http://inventorspot.com/articles/bizarre_b...robot_rea_11148
  15. Good app. I forgot about this one! Thanks.
  16. I'll try that. But I like apps that are 'approved' by people here. I want one with a good rep, that's got quality tweaks. Not stuff like 'EnableSuperPrefetchUltraCache' in XP.
  17. Can't use it. Its in German. I went into the program settings and changed it to 'Englisch' but did nothing for me. Changed icon labels only. Any substitute? English version?
  18. Check this out: The European Competition Commission has announced just how much cash it expects Microsoft to cough up. At €899 million ($2.2 billion) the charge isn't as high as it could've been, but the EC obviously intended for the penalty to have a bite. The fine in question is "entirely retrospective," meaning it applies to events and occurrences before October 22, 2007. Specifically, the fine penalizes Microsoft for setting what the ECC called an "unreasonable" royalty rate. From June 21, 2006 to October 21, 2007, Microsoft charged a 0.7 percent royalty rate for each developed product that made use of the company's interoperability protocols. After October 21, that rate was reduced to 0.4 percent. Read more at Ars Technica This doesn't make me feel pity for them after reading this nice little article about Vista DRM: Executive Summary: Windows Vista includes an extensive reworking of core OS elements in order to provide content protection for so-called “premium content”, typically HD data from Blu-Ray and HD-DVD sources. Providing this protection incurs considerable costs in terms of system performance, system stability, technical support overhead, and hardware and software cost. These issues affect not only users of Vista but the entire PC industry, since the effects of the protection measures extend to cover all hardware and software that will ever come into contact with Vista, even if it's not used directly with Vista (for example hardware in a Macintosh computer or on a Linux server). This document analyses the cost involved in Vista's content protection, and the collateral damage that this incurs throughout the computer industry. Cost analysis of Vista DRM

  20. What about compatibility? Same core?
  21. Unless you need Vista, I don't see why you would move away from XP. (Especially with that hardware). Vista is an OS. Its function is to run applications. Your applications do not need Vista. So why take the performance hit? Also, if you like how it looks, then I suggest you look at XP->Vista transformation packs. And for even more performance, nLite or XPlite (not permanent).
  22. I see. I have no issue with temporary installing a bloated SQL server for building XPe. I have a very good uninstaller app that scrubs my system clean. It monitors the installation process.
  23. So that's some kind of 'bulk app deployment' system? Like addons for nLite? I'd like to know more to see if I can find a GPL/freeware version.
  24. Or how about you just keep this one. Few people really care what your screenname is. Its just a name.
