When you install VmWare of your actual system or when you install a system into a vmware machine ? note: win.ini & win.com are files from Windows 98 ...

Have you installed the motherboard & graphics drivers first ?! ... If I remember the monitor can be installed with a driver when the graphic driver is okay.

This method works but not really secure ... if one user right click on the protected folder, go to security and Advanced option -> become the owner of the folder and it can modify right and all are accessible ... The best secure is the Cryptography solution ... with Right click on files/folder ... Attributs > Crypt ... you must login with the account ... if you format the system ... you are lost the folder ...

Personnaly, my WMP10 is integrated so I don't know if a reboot is needed ... For me I use the .exe source with /Q switch and no problem.

yes you must reinstall complete os with a new unattended setup ... I agree with cluberti for the better control of applications installed but the bad thing is about drivers, certain oem has specific drivers for their devices (such as 56k modem amr/sound onboard hybrid ...) ++
