98 just doesn't cooperate well with USB. If you go into Safe Mode or Command line only with a USB in, it lets you keep going

The authroots.sst and updroots.sst files have changed, the delroots.sst and roots.sst files are unchanged.

Now what else to test? I'm out of ideas. Are there any alternative Network Managers for Windows, like there are in the Linux world (wicd and nm-applet for example)? Maybe we have to wait and see what breaks on 9th of May. At least it's no surprise then.

I am not a TLS expert, but it is my understanding that basically nothing is going to happen when this certificate expires. This cert is what microsoft signs stuff with (for example, new updates, drivers...). There aren't any new updates being made for any SHA-1 system anyway. The reason you canot connect to HTTPS sites when you change the date is because you are changing the date, not any significance pertaining to what that date is. Firefox-based browsers do not rely on windows for encryption anyway. Chrome (at least on XP) partially does. but even for chrome and IE, nothing is going to change.

You don't need to "install" it. And I use the "360Loader" from 360Chrome to run it as a "portable". Extract the "MiniBrowserSetup_1071.exe" installer file using 7-Zip. You then only need the "bin" folder. Copy the 360Chrome folder over to a new location. It should contain only "360Loader.exe", "360Loader.ini", and a folder called "Chrome".
