To each their own, of course. IMHO, Windows 10 Firewall Control Plus XP 7.5.105.217 is the best firewall for Windows XP ever. I am able to control each programme or system component. And I can easily create rules or zones according to my needs. But as you said . Anyway! Thanks for your opinion! PS: This remark was probably meant more as a joke. People who frequent MSFN and the Windows XP subforum often have old computers that are very often still running Windows XP. This thread was created by me precisely for this target group, besides others, of course. No one here is encouraged or forced to use a 20-year-old computer or whatever else.2 points

Great! Does this ancient version Comodo Firewall 2.4.18.184 do its job properly under Windows XP in these days? Any issues? And can you provide some facts, screenshots and release notes regarding this version? The problem is I can't install this version on my machine as it would interfere with my Windows 10 Firewall Control which I would never uninstall.2 points

I thought that for the record it might be helpful to report back on the situation in my experience with regard to Microsoft mail accounts (in my case Hotmail) and XP SP3 clients. EssentialPIM: couldn't complete installation. Roytam's MailNews does install and supports OAuth2, but does not yet successfully validate Microsoft accounts. He acknowledges the problem. OE Classic: works well and is being updated. I have had stability problems with it when attaching files, but touch wood it seems fine now. The three year subscription is a drawback, but I guess they have earned it! Dream Mail: installed this successfully with AstroSkipper's aforementioned loader. It also works well and is free; as it is offering updates up to the highest version 6 only, my impression is that the latest version 7 updates do not support XP. I haven't tried forwarding as in the previous post as I wonder how long this will work. Overall, my preference is for OE Classic. The interface is quite similar to Outlook Express, and thus familiar, and to me much more appealing visually than Dream Mail's, which isn't very easy on the eyes. It has some marked improvements over Outlook Express, as compacting folders, always a complex, slow, risky and rather fraught process in Outlook Express, seemed instant and easy. Messages, even in quantity, can imported and exported as .eml files, which allows them to be interchanged with Outlook Express. It can import dbx folders, but I haven't tried this as I wanted a clean start. It did successfully import my Address Book, but not groups within it. Outlook Express did seem faster, and I miss the stationery creation wizard, but am probably alone in that respect!1 point

@feodor2 When creating UC.JS scripts, I noticed that some Vanilla JavaScript commands behave differently in single-process mode compared to multi-process mode. When starting the browser, loading new tabs or windows, accessing elements via document.getElementById() and especially via document.querySelector() needs much more time in multi-process mode than in single-process mode. Is there any explanation for this? Is this by default or rather a Mypal 68 specific behaviour? When, for example, starting the browser with the about:addons page, it takes nearly 8 seconds after DOM is loaded to be able to access an element in multi-process mode via document.querySelector() . In single-process mode, it can be accessed directly. This is very strange and does not make the multi-process mode particularly attractive.1 point

I see a new version: https://github.com/Eclipse-Community/r3dfox/releases/tag/v134.0.3 Hopefully a new ESR version can't be far behind1 point

I did the test requested. FAT32 Partition created in Win10 with Disk Genius: Even in this case I have not encountered problems regarding the detection of the partition in XP with the disk connected to the ASM1061 card:1 point

Today Ubisoft Connect finally stopped working on windows 7. There used to be some workaround but today even with said workaround it would simply refuse to connect you to ubisoft server, citing outdated version.1 point

1) Maybe it works in an external Firewire enclosure, connected to a Firewire card in the PC? 2) Maybe the issue is related to different workings on NTFS under WinXP and Win10? "The inability to process version 2.0 of the $LogFile by versions of Windows older than 8.0 results in an unnecessary invocation of the CHKDSK disk repair utility. This is particularly a concern in a multi-boot scenario involving pre- and post-8.0 versions of Windows, or when frequently moving a storage device between older and newer versions. A Windows Registry setting exists to prevent the automatic upgrade of the $LogFile to the newer version. The problem can also be dealt with by disabling Hybrid Boot" from: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NTFS#Versions The Wikipedia article lists in the footnote https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/archive/technet-wiki/15645.windows-8-volume-compatibility-considerations-with-prior-versions-of-windows1 point

I too had the times when almost all attachments by @VistaLover were not shown at all, now they do, but not always. So I don't think it's related to CentBrowser. I could've looked into, but the content is of no interest to me anyways. @Karla Sleutel, just forget about it, maybe. Or uninstall uBlock Lite and try without it. P.S. Waiting for the usual conspiracy theories.1 point

I took some time to "study" (lol) your conclusion, and it's wrong. Let me explain why, the user wrote "I took this screenshot from the VLC website". The user didn't upload it to MSFN. Original post. https://msfn.org/board/topic/182166-vlc-media-player-3011-ui/?do=findComment&comment=1192102 And then the user included the link to the image. https://external-content.duckduckgo.com/iu/?u=https://dl1.cbsistatic.com/i/2018/02/06/ec08c383-0c91-49f9-a77d-b27640193516/fceb1d5c9017bfba1b492df481699ada/foreman130894121919vlc2.jpg&f=1&nofb=1 My theory, MSFN blocks suspicious links and attachments from suspicious users. The other explanation, uBlock Lite works very bad.1 point

Other users' images (including imgur) work fine. It's only images from that user, and sometimes Vistalover.1 point

Could you send a link to Microsoft's statement regarding this subject ?1 point

So we may safely assume those are win10 ported drivers . Why ? There are no 372.93 and 373.19 windows 7 drivers . I looked at some others (older ones) I received from FS and all of the numbers correspond to their windows 10 versions (!), but not win7. Like 369.09 and 39 https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/forums/game-ready-drivers/13/236586/nvidia-driver-36909-/ BTW , looked at 373.19 again , it supports all 1000 series cards , including GTX 1050 Ti , only the lowest end GT1030 is missing.1 point

Yet another link says : "Key Features: - Latest 7th Gen. Intel Core i7 processor - Latest GeForce GTX 1050 2GB GDDR5 with desktop level performance ! And you may know that the first GTX 1050 driver is 375 , so this one is (at least on par with it or even newer) So we can assume the neighbour is right . https://drivers.softpedia.com/get/GRAPHICS-BOARD/NVIDIA/MSI-GL62M-7RD-NVIDIA-Graphics-Driver-373-19-for-Windows-10-64-bit.shtml1 point

@win32, wait a minute ... I'm stunned , it's a legit win10 driver ported to Vista !!! This driver exists out there in the wild ... but for Win10 only !!! Just search for "nvidia driver 373.19" yourself . So the Fujitsu Siemens staff ported a win10 driver !??! And look at the date added "November 2017". https://drivers.softpedia.com/get/GRAPHICS-BOARD/NVIDIA/Acer-Aspire-TC-730-NVIDIA-Graphics-Driver-373-19-for-Windows-10-64-bit.shtml1 point

@win32 , 373.19 is a very special case , indeed : 100% official Vista support . It still has the Vista block and it doesn't call for memcpy_s in ntoskrnl ! By the way, it is actually newer than 375 , I think . Why I think so ? Some file versions are similar and it has the telemetry . And as far as I remember, the 375 (official nvidia driver) was the first to incude it ! Pascal , no , I do not have any Pascal , also I sold my Maxwell recently . But Dereck Draker (also a Fujitsu Siemens owner) says it works with GTX980 and it is very fast. As for me , I tested it with the Fujitsu Siemens laptop (obviously), the card is the first version of GT820M , also I can confirm it works on GTX Titan (the first titan) , GTX780 , GTX780ti [the first version]. My neighbour says it works with DX9/DX10 games with his 1070 , but I can't confirm . I mean , there is no reason for him to lie to me, but I just can't go inside his house and test myself. Yet again , I can give it to you , no prob. . But only to you , since you also own a Fujitsu Siemens. EDIT : Forgot to say , there were a bit older drivers (several actually) like 372.93 , 373.06 supplied to us , and they all work with Vista . And you know 372.70 was the last one.1 point
