  2. All I can see in your screenshot is a switch for automatic definitions updates, but there ought to be a switch for automatic program components updates. I opened a ticket with Adlice and this is the latest reply I have received

  3. @reboot12 The Bios is NOT write protected, take a look at this AmiSetupWriter.efi 0xd25 0x2 NVRAM variable "Setup" read, data size 0x1270, attributes 0x7. Current Setup[0xD25] is 0x0 NVRAM variable "Setup" written. Updated Setup[0xD25] is 0x2 Dietmar EDIT: I just check with RU.efi, that indeed in UEFI name Setup now at adress 0xD25 is written 02. But still no harddisk with MBR is recogniced. Any idea, at which place I have to look for to enable CSM? The dump of all adresses with names via AmiSetupWriter.efi -d > all.txt does not work. EDIT2: I also wrote for to enable CSM AmiSetupWriter 0xCBE 0x1 The value at 0xCBE changed from 00 => 01 but still CSM is not working. EDIT3: May be, that a compare of the Bios, from where this 3 csm files are taken, can help to set all (in Bios unseen) variables in the Bios above, its NVRAM for CSM boot, correct. EDIT4: After checking about the risk, low, I did the following: I replace via UEFITool the whole Setup Guide 899407D7-99FE-43D8-9A21-79EC328CAC21 in the Bios from the 245k with the one from the board with 12900ks cpu. Before, I make a direct copy of the 12900ks Bios, fo to keep the settings for CSM. Q-Flash allows this crazy Bios implantat. But after reboot, I see only the screen, where I can choose between Delete (Bios Setup) or F12 (Boot menu). No other reaction. I also clear CMOS, does not help. Compi is frozen at this screen. But maybe this idea is not so bad, just you have to know, which parts of this Setup Guide have to be copied and which not. Just now I flash the original Bios f6c back to the 245k board, compi is alive;))..

  4. @VistaLover, where are you? So, @j7n is now in "our gang", or whatever you called it? Anyhoo, it's been a real nightmare, as of lately, I also have terrible problems with YT, and it doesn't depend on the browser, they just love to block random IPs, Europe, mostly.

  5. It's because in 126 they introduced the so much hated by @NotHereToPlayGames UI, and I agree, it's ugly. No way you're getting it to work on 8/1 due to the missing elements. It's actually the same with Vista. First, you'd need to tool back the old one,

  10. IMHO, a very simple and clean way is to unpack the new Mypal 68 archive file to a new folder, open the browser from there and create a new profile with the same name of your old profile to be imported by using Mypal 68's profile manager. Then, close the browser. Now, delete all files of your just created profile folder and copy the old ones from your backup into it. Now, start the browser again with this new profile. Done! At the moment, I have 10 different Mypal 68 programme folders and many, many profiles, only for the purpose of developing and testing, of course. No problems here.

  13. Yes, right, it's the highest I could get working on Vista, do you know what prevents 126 from starting. even on Win 8?

  14. You could probably try Opera (based on Chrome, some newer versions still work on 8.1), but it's a heavy and bloated spyware.

  15. One would need to write a dedicated Kernel for that, otherwise it's too much time to fix those frequently released versions.

  17. Thanks for your report! Avast 18.8.4084 was a terrible version from the start. As I reported at the time, it produced many problems. In the end, it couldn't even be uninstalled in the normal way. When I have the time and inclination, I'll try Avast 18.5.2342, although I've actually shelved Avast.

  19. Nobody asked you to neglect your "career". BTW, no one has spoken of this, and it is not the issue here at all. But if you take the trouble to reproduce something I said, then it should correspond to what I said. And if you don't really understand it, you should either quote it verbatim as you have done now: Bingo! or simply not refer to it at all. P.S.: I think bragging about your "above-average salary", whatever that means and whoever cares, is rather inappropriate and doesn't belong here.

  20. Thank you very much. I'm saddened to hear you may be placing a halt on releases. I posted this as a bug on GitHub, but the "White Caption Text" setting no longer works on the new ESR 128.6 release. I attempted changing it in "Settings" and in about:config, but no workie. Let me know if there's an easy fix. Cheers K4sum1!

  21. I've completely switched over to r3dFox ESR 128.4 on Windows 8. (I was going to deploy my Windows 10 LTSC 2019 box, but I still love Windows 8). I'm just curious as to when the next release of ESR 128 will arrive. (no pressure @K4sum1 )

  22. Hello @WSC4! Now, you might understand why I personally am not a fan of AVG. I also had to deal with BSODs. And that was already under Windows XP Professional SP3 32-bit. I never had such problems with any other Antivirus programme. And I tried a lot of different security programmes under Windows XP. Even Avast did not produce such BSODs. That's why I follow the rule: AVG, never again! Cheers, AstroSkipper

  23. As promised, some further information about the topic Avira AntiVir Engine. I already mentioned that Avira has stopped supporting 32-bit systems for some time. Therefore, I reinstalled 360 Total Security Essential 8.8.0.1119 to see what is going on with its Avira AntiVir Engine today. After installing, I checked the date of the virus database. Without any updating, the virus database is from 28.07.2020. Here is a screenshot taken directly after installation without updating: When performing an update, the virus database of Avira was updated, too. The last version of the virus database, one can get, seems to be from 19.02.2021. Here is a screenshot after updating: More recent virus definitions, one apparently can't get anymore, presumably due to the lack of a more recent 32-Bit Avira AntiVir Engine. But at least, one can still update the virus database a bit, unlike Wise Anti Malware. And of course, it mustn't be forgotten that 360 Total Security Essential 8.8.0.1119 has four other antivirus engines. In any case, this little check is a further confirmation that the Avira AntiVir Engines are no longer supported on 32-Bit systems. Cheers, AstroSkipper

  24. I updated my post about 360 Total Security Essential 8.8.0.1119 to further specify the multiple antivirus engines (actually, there are five of them) used by this programme. One of them is the Avira AntiVir Engine which I will go into in a next post very soon. Cheers, AstroSkipper

  25. The scan engine used in Wise Anti Malware comes from Avira. It has been used by many antimalware programmes in the past, such as 360 Total Security by Qihoo. To look at the whole thing in more detail, I made a small (legal!) modification to Wise Anti Malware 2.2.1 out of purely technical interest, which I will not go into here due to existing forum rules. With this modification, the programme was able to download the latest virus definitions with the notification "Updating", from which the local file local000.vdf was created with a size of approx. 107 MB. Here is a screenshot of Total Commander: Loaded by the service WiseMalService.exe, which initially took up only 29 MB of RAM, it now occupies around 800 MB of RAM, as can be seen in the next picture with the help of Process Hacker: Unfortunately, however, the scan engine of Wise Anti Malware could not be started again. Conclusion: a functioning Avira scan engine is missing and probably no longer available. As far as I know, Avira has stopped supporting 32-bit systems for some time. Read, for example, here: https://partnernews.sophos.com/en-us/2022/10/products/end-of-support-for-avira-32-bit-scan-engine/ That's probably why third-party providers like Qihoo have also removed it from their programmes. Cheers, AstroSkipper

  27. Wise Anti Malware - Abandoned!? First, some information about Wise Anti Malware. It came in two versions: Wise Anti Malware Free which was free of charge and Wise Anti Malware Pro which was commercial. Both versions offered a real-time protection. The differences are explained below under the section Features. Wise Anti Malware was designed to help protect against adware, viruses, malware, phishing, ransomware, spyware and unwanted programs (PUP/PUA). It included Custom, Quick, and Full scanning capabilities to check your computer for signs of malware, adware, etc. Wise Anti Malware was and is compatible with Windows XP. Features: The most important feature of Wise Anti Malware is real-time protection, which is considered as the first guard to defend your PC against Malware threads. It has three shields, Malware detection, Adware detection, and Registry protection (Pro only). Malware shield: Detect and block malware threats by using the extensive databases of the renowned Avira virus scanner. Adware shield: Detect and block AD windows. Registry shield: Detect and prevent programs from adding new startup items into the registry (Pro only). Three scanning modes: Quick Scan, Full Scan, and Custom Scan. Adware cleaner: Removes annoying advertising programs, blocks intrusive pop-up ads, and resets redirected web browser homepages. System Cleaner: Efficiently removes leftover registry entries, temporary files, cookies, and cache files. The paid Pro version had two additional features: Auto-update database Registry protection Homepage: https://www.wisecleaner.com/wise-anti-malware.html Version number: 2.2.1 Date of release: 26.12.2019 System requirements: Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 10 (both 32-bit and 64-bit) Hardware requirements: CPU: Pentium 233 MHz or above RAM: 128 MB or above Disk Space: the minimum of the space for installing Wise Anti Malware is 500 MB Supported languages: English, Arabic, Catalan, Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, Georgian, German, Greek, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian (Bokmal), Polish, Portuguese (Brazil), Portuguese (Portugal), Russian, Serbian, Slovenian, Spanish, Turkish, Ukrainian, Version history: Reviews: https://www.techno360.in/wise-anti-malware/ https://www.softpedia.com/get/Security/Security-Related/Wise-Anti-Malware.shtml Download link: https://downloads.wisecleaner.com/soft/WiseAntiMalware_FullInstaller.exe So much for the facts, which I had already researched some time ago, and therefore did not want to withhold from anyone. With version 2.2.1, all features were made freely available. Thus, the Free version became a free of charge Pro version. Actually great, if it weren't for the word if. I recently installed this version and examined it more closely. Unfortunately, I discovered some unpleasant things. According to the Wise Anti Malware homepage, the main interface should look like this: But unfortunately, the main interface of Wise Anti Malware 2.2.1 looks like that: No information about the last database update! This was apparently simply hidden in this version. Probably for good reasons. For comparison, I first installed the older version 2.1.8, and this entry was still there. After that, I installed Wise Anti Malware 2.2.1. When starting the programme, it should actually automatically download and initialise the scan engine, shown in the next screenshot: Unfortunately, the automatical download of the virus engine didn't happen. Only in the systray icon, when you hover over it with the mouse pointer, or in the tab Malware Scanner, a notification first says "The engine is starting" and after a while "Engine failed to start". And absolutely nothing about updating! These notifications are rather hidden, and the user does not even notice that the real-time protection is not started. This is definitely a no-go. And why do they still offer a non-working antimalware programme at all? At least for Windows XP. I don't understand that. Here are some screenshots to show these notifications: I reinstalled the programme, tried it more times, but nothing changed. Additionally, I followed some advices listed in the FAQ on their homepage. Unfortunately, without any success. Anyway! This version comes with definition updates from 23.11.2018, and the programme is neither able to start its scan engine nor to update its virus database. Therefore, I think Wise Anti Malware is abandoned and completely out of support. If anyone knows more, or the version works on their computers after all, please post here! Cheers, AstroSkipper

  28. Your statement suggests that there is no explanation on the linked Forbes website as to why Kaspersky was not listed. If that's what you meant to imply, I'm afraid that's not correct. The reasons are clearly stated on that website. Here is the link which can be found there easily: https://www.forbes.com/advisor/business/software/best-antivirus-software/#why_is_kaspersky_not_listed_section
