Supermium "shouldn't" have its own certificates. All Chromium-based browsers (Chrome, Edge, 360Chrome, Kafan, Supermium, Thorium, Brave, Vivaldi, Ungoogled Chromium, SRWare Iron, Comodo Dragon) are supposed to use the OPERATING SYSTEM'S certificates. This issue is likely Supermium-only, but it still begs the question as to why only on your computer? No other Supermium-user has chimed in to confirm your issues. This seems so far, until somebody else chimes in, that this is your computer and yours only.1 point

If anyone is wondering why I am bothering to post the issues with these extensions here, then the answer is very simple. I think the Speed Dial, Tab Utilities and also Session Manager extensions are important and worth keeping. I have been using them for years and would hate to see them go. This thread is dedicated to legacy extensions, and I hope that there is some way to make these particular extensions fully functional again. Be it that code changes are made to the UXP browsers or that the extensions are fixed.1 point

To the best of my knowledge, these "dark theme reports" are always reported by Vista users. Unsure if that is a factor at play here or not. But it is a "variable" in the equation.1 point

You mean people like from this article? Thankfully, the US still has pros in the FBI to catch those stooges. "The DOJ says Tim Pool, Dave Rubin, Benny Johnson and others were unwitting Russian stooges." by Aja Romano Sep 5, 2024, 1:00 PM GMT-8 "Russia secretly paid millions to a bunch of big right-wing podcasters" "An FBI investigation found evidence that the media outlet RT, previously called Russia Today, which is run by the Russian government, “secretly plant[ed] and financ[ed]” a Tennessee content creation company; the indictment describes Tenet in all but name. The company is then alleged to have stealthily spread pro-Russian, anti-democracy propaganda to millions of people across the internet, primarily via YouTube, TikTok, and other major social media platforms." https://www.vox.com/politics/370323/tenet-media-russia-what-happened-tim-pool-dave-rubin-benny-johnson-lauren-southern1 point

@a8s If you're going to use a hack like this, you should also read the notes. Here is a quotation taken from the creator's notes: And if you had carried out a new installation straight away from scratch, as I advised you to do in this post, you would have immediately realised that the error was in your configuration.1 point

Developing the JavaScript engine is of course a top priority in order to improve or restore compatibility with modern websites. But everything that has to do with time zones and local time does not work for a very long time. Many extensions need this feature. Maybe, you can reactivate or better re-implement it in the meantime only if the effort is manageable, of course.1 point
-
Of course, your project, your priorities. I assume in terms of fixing issues it has a similar priority as the issue Internationalization & Localization https://github.com/Feodor2/Mypal68/issues/96 and others which were already long reported before. Right?1 point

Mypal 68.13.5b does not recognise the system proxy settings under Windows XP which have been set in the proxy settings of IE 8 although the option Use system proxy settings under Network Settings is enabled. I tested this with ProxHTTPSProxy. Can anyone confirm this?1 point

Yep, you're right! The proof is in the pudding. When I wrote my comment, I was on my couch using an Android tablet. Now, I am back at my Windows XP desktop computer. Although stated as XP-compatible on their website, Malwarebytes AdwCleaner 7.4.2.0 is unfortunately not compatible with Windows XP anymore. It can't be installed.1 point
-
Very good examination! As Malwarebytes AdwCleaner 7.4.2.0 use the database from Oct 10th 2022 under Windows Vista, then it will most probably use the same database under Windows XP. Anyway! I assume there won't be any more recent database for this version in the future due to the lack of updates in the cloud for more than 6 months.1 point

This thread is about antivirus programs targeting Windows XP SP3 only. Posting a list of antivirus programs targeting Windows Vista is not really helpful and rather misleading. There are a lot of versions inside this list which won't work under Windows XP SP3. Anyway!I know this list but it doesn't belong here. At least, you should change the headline to "AntiVirus & Security Software for Windows Vista". To answer your question, Malwarebytes Free v3.5.1 should serve perfectly your needs. I use Malwarebytes Premium v3.5.1 under Windows XP. It is the last version for Windows XP but still receives definition updates. Its detection rate is very good. Only the premium version has a background guard.1 point

AFAIAA, unfortunately not. But the last months, I have presented some different antivirus or antimalware programs here in the thread and disseminated information about them, all still working under Windows XP.1 point

DreamMail Pro - Update information! DreamMail Pro has been updated again and is now available in version 6.6.6.8. It is still XP-compatible, and the development is ongoing! I have not been able to find a version history on their homepage. Therefore, I generated an official version history and provide it here: And here is the download link of DreamMail Pro 6.6.6.8: https://dl.cy-email.com/dm6/Download/dmpro_setup6.6.6.8.exe To force the updated installer of DreamMail Pro 6.6.6.8 to use English instead of Chinese as the installer language, I updated again my small loader that does this when it calls up the setup program. It must be executed in the same directory in which the setup file is located with its original file name dmpro_setup6.6.6.8.exe. Here is the download link of my loader Force_En_Install_DM_Pro_6668.exe: https://www.mediafire.com/file/1bdbimf2eq6m21l/Force_En_Install_DM_Pro_6668.7z/file Although some virus scanners detect this file as malicious, it is just a false-positive as always. Use my loader to force an English install, only if you trust me, of course! Cheers, AstroSkipper1 point

SpywareBlaster is not an antivirus program. It doesn't have a scan engine and all the features which are typically for AV programs. It cannot detect and certainly not delete viruses or malware. SpywareBlaster is a tool that tries to prevent prophylactically the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, dialers, browser hijackers, and other potentially unwanted programs, but only in supported browsers. So SpywareBlaster is a kind of additional security layer or immunizer for browsers. It updates its protection database on a monthly base and still does of today. On my Windows XP computer, its program window unfortunately produces an error since version 5 when closing. I use it for many years especially to immunize the Internet Explorer, but it doesn't support our @roytam1's browsers or 360Chrome, unfortunately. @mina7601! It would be desirable if research were carried out a little more deeply and in accordance with the facts. Such statements are otherwise rather misleading.1 point
-
Dear @AstroSkipper, why did you ignore this question? I asked it to ensure if I understood correctly what you said or not. Please respond. Thank you. That comment was actually not meant for you. And a member here will probably decide for himself whether certain contributions require a statement or not. BTW, I never try to say anything, but I say it as clearly as possible, in most cases even crystal clearly. Regarding your reply I didn't say it doesn't matter to me generally, but in most cases it doesn't matter completely to the companies where I am or was a customer. And that has already been the case for a long time, unfortunately. It used to be different, but you can't understand that because of your age. Apart from that, this is all completely off-topic again. We want to move on here. Content that would serve the topic here would be much more important and appreciated.1 point

A small update information! DreamMail Pro is now available in version 6.6.6.2.1 point

That's correct. Only username and password is not sufficient anymore. The email client has to support OAuth2 or app password to access a Google account. Gmail's web interface still works with username and password, of course. And Android's Gmail app works without any problems if the user has logged in their Google account. I mention this as I am an Android user for nearly ten years. Windows XP and Android (and rather rarely Linux) are my main OSs. For example, DreamMail Pro (I wrote about this email client in some previous posts) also works with Gmail under Windows XP, but only via app password, at least in the version 6.6.5.9. No real OAuth2. MailNews supports a real OAuth2. It opens an own window to allow access to your Google account. No app password needed.1 point
-
As promised, some further information about MailNews. It's now my standard email client in Windows XP. All my email service providers are supported by MailNews. I talk about GMX, WEB.DE, Gmail and Outlook.com (formerly Hotmail, now the light web version of Microsoft 365). It works without any problems, simply great. Here are some screenshots from my installation: I installed a lot of extensions from both Binary Outcast and Thunderbird.net, without any modifications, no editing of install.rdf, right out of the box. Furthermore, I activated the embedded calendar Lightning. I am very happy with MailNews, no cumbersome and heavy loading web interfaces anymore. This means I can fully recommend MailNews. No fight was intended , you started this marvellous topic about Vista , suddenly there are people that say other (newer WIndows) are somewhat ok too . And this is said among us (!) , Vista die-hard fans . How can it be ? This has been discussed a million times , go to Win7/8/9/10/11/12 forum and discuss it there , besides going off-topic is simply not polite.1 point

Dear asdf2345 , I really appreciate your advice , but why would I wanna do that ? I see you are using Server 2008R2 , it's your choice and I respect it . But I use Windows Vista on all of my PCs. And this topic is about our pleasant experience with it. Please tell us about your experience with Vista.1 point

This topic slowly turns into Vista vs. 7 nonsense ...1 point

Your observation is absolutely right , Vista audio drivers sound much better than the drivers that were meant for 7 , but not to the point of full satisfaction , not even close. In fact, Asus D2 Vista driver can be used without signature enforcement on 7 , but yet again , the audio is not punchy . It still sounds sandy and flat . Did you notice that Vista's audio drivers use DX10 when running on 7 ? Perhaps this is the reason they somewhat sound better. P.S. I had noticed many issues with 7 (like literally trembling opened windows , to the point where I can't even close them and the whole explorer just hangs up) Sorry . I'm not gonna argue about the other Win7 issues , like taskbar , if you choose to use Win7 (or whatever) - it's your choice . Yet again , in this topic we discuss our pleasant experience with Vista , not 7 or the such.1 point

I'm sorry , I do not agree . I use Windows starting from Win 93 , and I do not agree . In my opinion the best are Win 2000 (for it's time) and Vista. Always hated XP . XP is like oversaturated and bloated Win 2000. Win 7 is somewhat like Vista after unsuccessful plastic surgery and filled with toxins after that (I guess explains why it is slower).1 point

Hi , first off , I'm sorry to remind : this top is : Share your Windows >Vista< experience! and not about "the look of 7". There's too much to write about the differencies . Some of the ugliest things about Win 7 are : fonts (yes that "true" type ones) - washed out and blurry , oversaturated UI colours , like for ravers at the acid party. I always had the best monitors available , so I can tell. Also , sound , oh boy. It's nowhere near Vista's punchy and sharp audio quality . I have Asus D2 , so I can also tell the difference . Win 7 has fat , thick , flat , ugly taskbar . etc , etc , etc . P.S. Compare Vista's wonderful orb and Win 7 (I don't even know how to name that "acid something").1 point

Well , I agree it makes sense for a laptop , but for a main PC ... why ? My Vista's boot time is 5-6 seconds on the gaming PC . What are the benefits in this case ? To make it 3-4 seconds ? Besides , 2.5tb isn't too much nowadays . I have my home video footage , clips from various trips and the such , which occupy more than 10TB. I think I'm a bit older than you , though ... so it had accumulated over the years. Also, I'm still not convinced in their ability to store information for a long time (without power) and their durability. I have 10 year old Raptors (under constant use) and they still going strong. P.S. I'm not using Win7/8/10 , and Vista doesn't do any annoynig constant writing to my HDDs.1 point

Hello , i'm sorry I don't quite understand the purpose of this build. One won't be able to play with GT710. It's weak even for office use. If you insist on bying from Amazon.in only , then I'd suggest to replace it with GTX 950 2GD5 OCV1 , they are available there and it is fully supported on Vista. Also , maybe I'm a bit of old school , but I don't like SSDs , any of them. WD Blue 10EZEX is fast enough for this build. 550W (if it is a true 550W PSU) would be more than enough for this whole system with the replaced GPU.1 point
