1.5 years? I'm afraid not, and I have the same question.3 points

This one works on XP. At least a bit earlier version I tried. This is a simple and easy to use tool. Paid, but has free proxies, also. From what I know, this software was made a Latvian guy. What struck me as weird, it checks the speed of the servers by connecting to Yadnex, so I don't know how deep the ties to the KGB/FSB/Russia are. The connection can be blocked. Also, you can change in the paid version. "Full support of Socks v5 and Elite servers". https://www.proxyswitcher.com/3 points

1 - A figure of speech (maybe stolen from Microsoft, the creepy "we are checking your PC") 2 - I have zero problems admitting my mistakes, if there are such. Still no anwser about the ready paid official solutions, you just named the protocols they use. And some are quite questionable/dubious. Like this one: "... with a major downside, it doesn’t offer any encryption. That’s why it’s implemented..." www.websiterating.com/vpn/glossary/what-is-l2tp-ipsec/ 3 - But I guess the commercial VPN software you use is your secret and I'm absolutely fine with it ! And therefore, named or not - on-topic, which is the most important thing ! And isn't OpenVPN free ?3 points

Are you sure this is on topic, 'cause we aren't aware of any *XP-compatible* paid VPN solutions currently available for purchase. Please correct me, if I'm wrong.3 points

Real modern VPN could be hard to configure properly for a beginner, aslo may have a conflict with your LAN or WiFi adapter. In the XP days we had nice and simple standalone programmes, like AntiTracks which gone off the radar somewhere in 2010 . It was so cool and had a real IP from Texas. Very fast . It was paid, of course.3 points

There is a request for this function, but no response from the developer yet: https://github.com/win32ss/supermium/issues/328 To open links and bookmarks in a new tab, you need to click them with the middle mouse button. There is an extension that opens all links (not bookmarks) in a new tab: TabLink.2 points

Another milestone release for yt-dlp (2024.03.10). Windows XP mod : https://github.com/nicolaasjan/yt-dlp/releases/latest/download/yt-dlp_x86_Windows-XP.zip2 points

Of course, OpenVPN is opensource. But it's just a VPN client. You need configuration files *.ovpn which contain necessary data for connecting to a certain VPN server. Most commercial VPN provider offer configuration files to connect to their servers via OpenVPN protocol. And, a more recent, inofficial client compatible with Windows XP is available, too. The old ones don't work anymore in most cases.2 points

What do you mean by "we"? Who are you speaking for? If you wanted to ask that you are not aware of any *XP-compatible* paid VPN solutions currently available for purchase, then here is the answer of a Frisian. You are wrong, unfortunately. My main OS is Windows XP and I use paid VPN services with no log policy via L2TP/IPSec, OpenVPN and PPTP protocol for years. Therefore, I am on-topic, which seems to be rather a rarity here in this thread.2 points

1 - Saying that "XP is outdated crap" is definitely ill-mannered and not welcome in the society of MSFN, where the most users are XP/vista, including the moderators. 2 - Yes, we are , also I'm sure you're Russian. Who else would be that rude ? The French were and are well-mannered and witty people. Thanks for the compliment . 3 - I don't own a "cat". EDIT: I'd gladly make you a compliment too, and your country/nationality is hidden. But let me guess, Russia ? *Surprise* - I already guessed, so no compliment. You're lucky our XP superfan @TrevMUN is busy , and @msfntor is simply very polite and calm.2 points

The quoted article you posted above is about proxy servers and anonymity. This thread is about VPN in Windows XP, though. Conclusion: your posting is off-topic, again, unfortunately. By the way, VPN means Virtual Private Network, and has nothing to do with proxy servers. Truth be told, I usually do not use proxy servers such as anonymous proxies for example but only VPN to get anonymity.2 points

All the newest Windows related content is available at my website under https://twilczynski.com/windows. This thread was initially about creating an updated version of Unofficial SP5. However, for various personal and technical reasons, I was unable to follow my original plans. @Gurgelmeyer, the author of the USP5, used an automatic tool to update the official Service Pack 4 with updates and hotfixes that were released by Microsoft after it. The tool was never shared to the public though, so I began with preparing my own scripts that would do the same work. Yet, I have never gone far enough to be able to integrate the updates into SP4 the same way that he did. Nevertheless, my scripts were still able to merge single updates into so called "update rollups", so I decided to use them to create unofficial packages such as UURollup, Update Rollup 2, HBR Rollup and many others. At that time, I suddenly became responsible for the Updates Lists for HFSLIP for Windows 2000. I had to learn HFSLIP not only from the outside (as a user) but also from the inside (as a maintainer), and also learn how to build and administer a website. In the process I realized that producing more and more small unofficial packages was a dead end. Despite the initial success, they inevitably introduced new bugs and issues that were difficult to track and fix, led to even greater fragmentation of the Windows 2000 update ecosystem and, most importantly, required continuous and active maintenance. In such a situation, I made my mind to fully focus on the Updates Lists with HFSLIP as the ultimate tool for keeping Windows 2000 up-to-date. Everything has been said about HFSLIP (see the HFSLIP forum and my website) so I am not going to elaborate it here. There are at least three reasons why I believe that HFSLIP, despite its limitations, is still better than all other similar tools or prepackaged updates (such as USP5 or unofficial rollups). Firstly, it is a complete program that just works in spite of no active development. It does require small fixes from time to time, but most of them can be done even by a novice developer like myself. Secondly, thanks to its flexibility, HFSLIP is the only such tool able to integrate a large variety of differently structured updates, system files, registry files, addons, any many other packages. Lastly, it supports all language versions of Windows (which is not the case with the majority of the unofficial update packages which are usually English only). All in all, this is how my current point of view stands. The thread itself is old and long, any many things have changed since its creation. Accordingly, many different topics have been discussed here. Since I have discontinued all the other threads related to my work with Windows 2000, feel free to use this one to post your opinion, questions and suggestions on the current and future development of everything related to Windows 2000. The thread's original content is still available in the spoiler below.1 point

Found a minor Dark Magic bug. When right clicking on a Directory Opus 13 floating toolbar (a toolbar that exists outside of the main Opus window, can live on the desktop or dock to the edge of the screen) while Opus is in Dark Mode (a new feature for Opus 13 that is implemented similarly to SAB, win32 property sheets are dark et cetera, great minds think alike 😉) the context menu comes up with mismatched colors.1 point

Okay! But what do you think about the corresponding error message "Error: TypeError: details is null" on the affected setting pages of uBlock Origin? Isn't that an error out by uBO? The variable details belongs to a function on uBO's JavaScript file settings.js.1 point

Subject: Kaspersky In Germany, the "Bundesamt für Sicherheit und Information (BSI)", in English the "Federal Office for Information Security (BSI)", had already warned against the use of anti-virus software from the Russian manufacturer Kaspersky on 15 March 2022: https://www.bsi.bund.de/DE/Themen/Unternehmen-und-Organisationen/Cyber-Sicherheitslage/Technische-Sicherheitshinweise-und-Warnungen/Warnungen-nach-Par-7/Archiv/FAQ-Kaspersky/faq_node.html (German website, use an online translator!). I already reported the warning from BSI months ago in the old antivirus thread. In the meanwhile, I have changed my mind and now share the official concerns about Kaspersky. Thus, I have removed Kaspersky Antivirus from my internal list and will not write an article about this programme anymore. In these times, one cannot seriously entrust the security of one's computer to such a programme due to its origin. A more in-depth consideration at this point cannot be carried out due to our forum rules. Kind regards, AstroSkipper1 point

Unfortunately, I didn't say Free VPN. services are outdated but they are crap. That's a completely different statement. Therefore, the comparison makes no sense at all. Although off-topic, you are right. The cat needs definitely help , but in Munich, the state capital of Bavaria. It's far away from here.1 point
