  2. @Jody Thornton Have you installed Vista Home Basic on a computer equipped with a SSE only CPU? Probably not. I only ask you that because Mypal 68.12.8b is a release for such hardware exclusively. Testing this release on computers equipped with an at least SSE2 CPU is actually meaningless.

  3. I have my personal, obviously terrible experience with that drive, run from it! It works today, tomorrow it simply loses 75% of the files on it. Dave, do you have another over 3TB disk to test, maybe? Edit. I just found them, I still have some left in my basement, (non-functional)

  4. ST3000DM001, introduced by Seagate in 2011, is the famous Deathstar v2.0. I was under the impression you knew that, didn't you, Dave? "This particular drive model was reported to have unusually high failure rates" "In July 2021, 9to5Mac reported that because the disk was included in the Apple Time Capsule it started to show high failure rates. The issue was caused by the parking ramp that was made out of different materials, according to the German data recovery company Datenrettung.[5]" Class action "In 2016, Seagate faced a class action over the failure rates of its ST3000DM001 3 TB drives.[4][6][7][8] Law firm Hagens Berman filed the lawsuit on 1 February in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California, and primarily cited reliability data provided by Backblaze." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ST3000DM001

  5. I was born in the seventies (exactly the time you say it's started to get warmer), I remember those already heated up seventies very good. But even comparing to the already hot late seventies, what we have have here today is bloody hell, mind you - it exceeds the mentioned 30 years average weather period by almost 80%. So yeah, it's good enough to make clear observations, and not trust those 'official' sources.

  6. I liked the covid times, it was much quieter in my town, I live in a town with lots of tourists, obviously covid was a man-made crap, but it works for de-pop, and that is good for us and the climate. Less people, more oxygen.

  7. How then would you explain winters in my region are getting hotter and hotter after the Millennium, especially? How old are you? I'm old enough to remember what was happening in the past, when the climate was normal.

  8. What version of the Unofficial SP3 are you using? What Update options are your selecting? I couldn't make out for sure, if you had ever had a machine with working networking after the update. It seemed like it was only some machines that had the issue. If that is true, of the machines that do have the issue, do they always have the issue (after the SP3 install); or is it erratic? You can copy the service pack to a temporary folder, and extract it with 7-zip. "INFEX.INI" is the core of the service pack. You can examine it to get a grasp of the over all process. But for individual updates, you need to examine the ".INF" file, that correlates to the update. Also, you may need to examine the correlating ".BAT" files. This will tell you what files are being replaced, and what registry settings are being added/changed. The file you probably want is "SPUPDATE.INF", unless you are also installing Internet Connection Sharing "ICS.INF". You could try a fresh install, just installing "Main Updates/System Core Files (SPUPDATE.INF)". If you end up with the same networking issue as before, you could then eliminate, for certain, all the other "less likely" causes. If "Main Updates/System Core Files" isn't causing the issue, then you can "one by one" install each update (that you normally use from the service pack) until you find the one that creates the error. Unfortunately, you are the only one that can debug this, unless it is duplicated somewhere else. After each change you make, to the new install, restart and test the network. The you can at least isolate, to some degree of certainty, that it is the service pack (and a specific update) causing your issue.

  16. Thanks for your kind words! And you're right it is as always a game of action and reaction between two parties with opposing interests. I personally try to maintain and keep up-to-date uBlock Origin Legacy within the scope of my abilities. Unfortunately, both, gorhill and JustOff stopped further development a long time ago. Thus, we can only hope that the compatibility of the important filter lists for uBOL will be maintained.

  18. easyanticheat looks like a not nice thing to have on ones PC. Probably some of the later Windows 7 updates simply blocked it, like it was at some point in time with securom, which was declared to have a rootkit and officialy removed from Vista and disabled from running with some of the later Vista/Windows 7 updates. https://www.reddit.com/r/Dirtybomb/comments/8uweej/easy_anti_cheat_malware/?rdt=54594

  19. FYI, the definition updates are usually distributed several times a day. Therefore, the version changes continously. The last time I checked, two hours ago, it was 1.0.29440.

  20. Thanks! But which loss do you mean? There is personally no serious loss. If Malwarebytes really stops rolling out fresh definition updates, the current state will be good enough for a while. Of course, no new definition updates would be a great pity and another setback for all users on Windows XP and Vista. But my license is also valid for the most recent 4.5.25 or upcoming versions, i.e. versions targeting Windows 7 or 10. It's a lifetime license, whatever lifetime means, of course especially according to the recent experiences made.

  21. You're right! Now that you've pointed it out, I see it too. Ransomware protection is activated, and this is actually not possible natively under Windows XP and Vista. Good watch out!

  22. My question on Malwarebytes' forum: AdvancedSetup's direct reply: Maybe, this Root Admin is not able to answer a question accordingly and correctly. It is possible he always gives the same reply "support of version 3.5.1 will end soon". Whatever support he is referring to. I can't really assess his skills. Seems to me more of a robot.

  23. My Windows XP machine works perfectly. There is nothing to give up. If Malwarebytes stops providing definition updates for their version 3.5.1.2522, I have enough other options which of course are not comparable to those in Windows 7 and up. But my options are sufficient for the foreseeable future. And I will share the knowledge about these options here, of course.

  24. I booted into my second Windows XP partition one hour ago. The last version of my definitions was 1.0.29432. So for now, updating of definitions is working. BTW, the topic in Malwarebytes forum will be closed soon. I am no longer interested to talk to such moderators as Porthos or AdvancedSetup. I have left an appropriate closing comment after all these kind words.

  25. The support for Malwarebytes Premium 3.5.1.2522 has already been dropped for years. No new program updates! As far as I correctly understood and I asked there directly, they want to drop the definition updates (what you call pattern updates) for this version. Look in "my" thread there whatever my thread means in that forum! I think my thread is more their thread!

  26. XP (and Vista) users should really keep an eye on that thread ; things look grim ... The opening post there displays a picture of what Dave described in a previous post here: However, this time the MB staff aren't interested in "resolving it"; according to the reporter (and confirmed by a staff member), Malwarebytes Premium Legacy 3.5.1.2522 can no longer receive def updates under Vista/Win7 - thanks to user feedback in this thread, we do know XP installations still receive these ; but all the MB staff can, apparently, do is endlessly recite ad nauseam the "inherent perils of running Microsoft unsupported Windows versions like XP/Vista ; as per @Imacri's post 3hr ago, MB staff have started wiping out Forum references to "Malwarebytes support for legacy Windows XP and Vista Operating Systems"; what comes next ? OT: @mina7601; Since you seem to have a Vista SP2 VM installed, could you be so kind as to try MB Legacy 3.5.1.2522 there and check whether its defs can be updated? Thanks in advance ... I didn't want to miss the opportunity to post a statement about Malwarebytes and what's going on there in the aforementioned thread: https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/296406-windows-xp-does-not-have-lifetime-support/#comment-1561182 In case of deleting my comment, I made a picture from my statement: Cheers, AstroSkipper

  29. By the way , I had the same flat buttons with Win 7 with everythin after 3.0.0 , it's just I do not use WIn 7 on a regular basis , just for testing once in blue moon , so can't make a pic. , sorry. It did have an aero frame though , but everything else was Win10 flat and ugly. Buttons , volume control , etc.

  30. I just don't understand how can you not see the difference . And yes , I've made everything like you said. Still 3.0.0 and above stick with Win10 buttons and older versions have Vista style buttons . Yes , they became somewhat better after the patch , but not to the point of representing the previous glory. So I agree with the previous poster , VLC devs made something ugly to the buttons. The shot was taken on Vista x64.

  32. Hi , I've just tried . DOA6 DEMO won't launch , it wants K32EnumProcessModulesEx in KERNEL32.dll. P.S. To whom it may concern , it doesn't use that bloody "mono". It has a huge executable and not a single game related DLLs (!). Some third party DLLs are present in the folder , but they are not being used by the game itself.
    1 point
  33. I will test it myself and write back . I understand you have plenty to do. I've got a good deal on a huge HDD , so space is not a problem , though I have very weak CPUs on all of my PC's . It's Xeon X5440 (somewhat similar to yours, oveclocked) and a cheap Haswell Pentium , also OC. I'm afraid the performance will be terrible . I only hope if this game is not CPU demanding , and my old GTX970 will be enough.
    1 point
  34. Ah , forget about them , those modern games are not worthy anyway , in any case , thank you very much for trying to help me ! Do you think DOA6 will launch ? Any chance ? There is a demo available , I can't find any info whether it uses this bloody mono or not.

  35. That's precisely what I did . I put all files from your folder to the main game folder with the main ".exe" , created empty file with the game name , added game.exe.local extension , then ( just in case ) copied all files to the mono folder , redirection of files was enabled earlier , boom , I see the same error . The file image is not "bad" , it runs fine on my old Win7 laptop. What do you mean by "put the .local files (plural) in the game exe's folder" ? Do I have to create empty files for each DLL too ? P.S. Tried on several games with mono , no luck. Edit : your update from Nov. 2018 installed , of course . Also DX11 , Platform update and VCRedist up to 2015 and .NET 4.5.1

  36. I'm not sure how to make this "proof" , as I told before , this program installs just fine , then I launch it , everything is fine too ... then it just quits without warnings or errors. It may happen in about 5 minutes or 20 , the time is different in each case . I can't make a screenshot of this quitting program , it's obvious . Of course you may not listen , the choice is yours. The most important here, Microsoft doesn't officially support 4.7.2 and 4.6.2 or even 4.6.1 on Vista , so it is you who should create "proof" that it is working in your case , I mean , your word against the official statement of Microsoft. Links to their statement: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=49982 https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=53344 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4054530/microsoft-net-framework-4-7-2-offline-installer-for-windows

  37. I don't think so , I had multiple problems on various machines , software just quits itself for no apparent reason , for example PwerDVD , tried versions from 14 to 17. As soon as I revert back to 4.5.1 , everything works flawlesly. And some more conflicts and crashes with certain (quite popular software). May I ask , what for do you need 4.7.2 or even 4.6.1 on Vista ?
    1 point
  38. Hi , for me 4.6 and 4.6.1 gave nothing but troubles , esp. with video software . The best and most compatible is 4.5.1 , I think it is the last .NET which should be advised for installation to the non-experienced (ordinary) users.
    1 point
  39. Hi , windows update doesnt work anymore , that's right , but no one is standing between you and manual update , right ? I have VCRedist 2005 - 2015 , NET 4.5.1 and DX11 installed without any troubles , you don't need to instal any updates for them to work , you just need to update certificates, there is plenty of info on this marvellous forum regarding this issue. I hope some veteran members will give you the direct link.
    1 point
  40. No , like I said mine are not working . The only working games is where mono has a lower version from 2017 . I even tried to place your files in the folder with mono-2.0-bdwgc.dll. You said mono is .NET, will installing .NET 4.6 solve the problem ? I really don't wanna try in vain because I remember my last experience with 4.6.1 wasn't good, half of the programs went nuts , esp. video players. Edit : Oh , and I even have one game with new mono which shows the same error , like chromium 72 : "This application failed to initialize properly (0xc000007b).Click OK to terminate." Others show plain and simple "can't load mono".
