  1. Text editing in SciTE works similarly to most Macintosh or Windows editors with the added feature of automatic syntax styling. SciTE can hold multiple files in memory at one time but only one file will be visible. Features include: Options to allow searching for words, regular expressions, matching case, in the reverse direction, wrapping around the end of the document. Buffers. Sessions. Default key bindings. Bookmarks. Multiple selection. Code Folding – a code block can be folded (and made invisible) with a click of the mouse. LUA scripting for extensibility. Virtual space. Provides syntax support for many computer languages including: Ada, Assembler, C, C++, C#, Eiffel, Erlang, Fortran, HTML, Java, LISP, Lua, Matlab, Metapost, Objective Caml, Octave, Pascal, Perl, PostScript, Python, Ruby, Rust, Scheme, Smalltalk, XML and YAML. https://www.linuxlinks.com/SciTe/

  2. I am old school. Thus, I prefer to have my tab bar directly below the navigation and bookmarks bar as it was in the older days. Anyone who uses UXP browsers or old Firefox versions will be familiar with the Tab Utilities Phoenix or Tab Mix Plus extensions, which make changing the position of the tab bar in these browsers child's play. Interestingly. there are also Tab Mix Plus versions for the newer Firefox versions. Unfortunately, these do not work with Mypal 68; at least Firefox in version 78 is required.

  3. The answer is yes. There are scripts to move the tab bar to the bottom of the browser window. Have a look here: Cheers, AstroSkipper

  4. Custom CSS scripts to modify the GUI of Mypal 68 Here is a screenshot showing Mypal 68 with the tab bar below the navigation and bookmarks bar: And here is a screenshot showing Mypal 68 with the tab bar on the bottom of the window: All was done by using already existing, custom CSS stylesheets to move the tab bar to a desired position. This time, I only used scripts from CustomCSSforFx. Cheers, AstroSkipper

  5. Good enough for me. It does present a very interesting case study, to be honest. (Has Roytam detailed why he does not compile x64?) I don't know how to test and would be interested in insights towards testing. I hope I'm not over-simplifying, but I've always viewed it this way (I am a "debugger", not a "programmer", but in a very different line of work [automobile engine controllers]) - x86 versus x64 being ran on an x64 system (all of my machines are x64) is two highways running side-by-side. One highway has 8 lanes of traffic (the x64 lanes) and the other has 4 lanes of traffic (the x86 lanes). The x64 lanes of traffic have 200 cars traveling on it, quite congested and where one "multi-clock-cycle" algorithm slows the entire highway to a crawl until it squeezes through. While the x86 lanes of traffic have only 20 cars traveling on it, no congestion whatsoever, miles between each car. Unloading 10 of the 20 cars and moving them from the x86 lanes onto the x64 lanes creates a traffic jam and slows things down. I'm probably over-simplifying. Fingers crossed that one of our resident high-skilled programmers can chime in.

  7. It makes perfect sense that Firefox 52 could be faster than Serpent 52 (I have not personally tested). When it comes to browsers, it is VERY COMMON for OLDER browsers to be faster. And technically, Serpent 52 is not really "52". It's more like "52 and three fourths". Just as one example, Firefox does not support "nullish coalescing operator" until version 72 -- https://caniuse.com/mdn-javascript_operators_nullish_coalescing But despite Serpent being only "52", my Serpent 52 dated 2023-07-31 [I run an older version intentionally] does support "nullish coalescing operator". So by that operator alone, we are not 52 but 72. But what else can 72 do that 52 cannot? So we cannot really call it 72. So "52 and three fourths". Although, if you look at the about screen, we don't really call it 52... we call it 52.9.0. So "52 and nine tenths".

  8. I wish I had the knowledge you guys have. Congratulations to all of you. You amaze me. I'm just a mere tester at best. What I can tell you is that I still couldn't find any FF 52.9 link that I find reliable (I always prefer portables) so Dan's suggestion led me to think about trying to browse facebook with my old Mypal 29.2.1 and the behavior is pretty normal. You notice how outdated it is but it never crashes or closes on its own. All basic functions work. After some time it also seems to "get tired" and it is necessary to close the tab and reopen it because it won't load any more content.

  9. To be clear, "Xitter" was just a mashup of X and Twitter. I didn't intend to bring up geopolitics; only to use President Xi's name as a pronunciation guide Meanwhile, back in Serpentland: I wonder if a FF 52.9 user agent is all that's needed to dissuade Facebook from sending all the Googlescript that slows UXP down so badly? I've seen this elsewhere; e.g., office.com runs much faster, although you lose some features (and Micro$oft will show you an annoying "update your browser" banner )

  15. DreamMail Pro - Update information! DreamMail Pro has been updated again and is now available in version 6.6.6.11. It is still XP-compatible, and the development is ongoing! I have not been able to find a version history on their homepage. Therefore, I generated an official version history translated to English and provide it here: And here is the download link of DreamMail Pro 6.6.6.11: https://dl.cy-email.com/dm6/Download/dmpro_setup6.6.6.11.exe To force the updated installer of DreamMail Pro 6.6.6.11 to use English instead of Chinese as the installer language, I updated again my small loader that does this when it calls up the setup program. It must be executed in the same directory in which the setup file is located with its original file name dmpro_setup6.6.6.11.exe. Here is the download link of my loader Force_En_Install_DM_Pro_66611.exe: https://www.mediafire.com/file/lvg9qtaqt6voii4/Force_En_Install_DM_Pro_66611.7z/file Although some virus scanners detect this file as malicious, it is just a false-positive as always. Use my loader to force an English install, only if you trust me, of course! Cheers, AstroSkipper

  17. The programme Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is great piece of software. Although the old versions have slightly worse detection rates than some other programmes of this type, they run perfectly under Windows XP. I've written two detailed articles about different versions of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware in this thread now, and I've only spread positive things. And what do you read about it in the Malwarebytes forum? The guy who posted this is one of many on the Malwarebytes forum who, for whatever reason, hate Windows XP or Windows Vista and their users. Instead of being happy that their programme is appreciated and maintained, only snide remarks, ridicule and scorn. This guy should be so ashamed of himself. (Edit: In the meanwhile, he offered me his apology, which I accepted. ) I am also a member of this "friendly" forum, and I've been really upset with this forum for a long time now, which is not doing a good service to the Malwarebytes product and potential users. A few months ago, I had a bad experience myself in this forum and spoke plainly. I reported about it in the old antivirus thread. Here is the relevant thread from the Malwarebytes forum: https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/296406-windows-xp-does-not-have-lifetime-support/#comment-1561223 Anyway! 19. The versions v1, v2 and v3 of Malwarebytes each have different formats in which the virus definitions are stored. Although MBAM v1 and v2 store the virus definitions in the file rules.ref, these files still differ. MBAM v3 has completely different files for storing virus definition called rules.mbdb, and additionally the files wprot.mbdb and wprot2.mbdb. In any case, their virus definitions cannot be exchanged among each other. Cheers, AstroSkipper

  20. That's absolutely correct! Another, nice example is SpywareBlaster 4.6 which was the last version compatible with Windows ME. Updating of the definition files stopped when the version 5.0 was released. The most recent version is 6.0. When updating the definition files in SpywareBlaster 6.0 under Windows XP, they can be used in the version 4.6 under Windows ME without any problems. BTW, SpywareBlaster is on my internal list, and I will write an article about it soon.
    1 point
  21. Yep! No problem using most recent definition updates for an old version as long as the format is compatible. PS: I agree capitalisation is annoying, hard to read, and actually means shouting in forums. Therefore, it is considered impolite.

  23. When I say a real XP user, I mean using Windows XP on real hardware and no VM. I need a confirmation from a user with Windows XP SP3 fully updated including all POSReady updates as my issue appears only under this condition. I just want to find out if my partition or the Glarysoft Startup Manager has a problem. You do not have POSReady updates installed in your system, so you're out. Sorry! But thanks for your reply! And of course, you are a real XP user, too.

  24. To all real (no VM) Windows XP SP3 (32 Bit) Professional POSReady users! Is anyone else here in the forum who can or can't confirm this issue described in the quoted posts? I am still interested in a confirmation in terms of the issue described in the quoted posts above to decide whether it is POSReady related or not. This request is addressed to all members using a real (no VM) Windows XP SP3 (32 Bit) Professional, fully updated including all POSReady Updates. Or am I the only real XP (32 Bit) user here? Thanks in advance! Greetings, AstroSkipper Apparently, I am really the only real Windows XP user, or no one is willing to do a 5 minute test as described above. TBH, both options are a bit tragical, unfortunately.

  25. Thanks for the tip! New ideas are welcome at any time. TBH, I will only debug the corresponding services if it is unavoidable. First I need further confirmation whether my described problem has something to do with the POSReady updates or not. My system works perfectly in general except the problem with Glarysoft's Startup Manager.

  31. Why would I read an article from early 2017 for such obsolete hardware ? We shall have 2023 in a couple of weeks. I don't know people who would voluntarily purchase a 6 years old laptop just to be able (possibly, without any hard proof) use Win 7. From what I know, that trick worked only for some early Kaby-lake models.
