Thank you for the article with another official warnings about Kaspersky! In this article they say: "After consideration, we can no longer recommend you purchase Kaspersky security programs." "...we're removing Kaspersky programs from our "Best of" lists." Also they say: "though none of the accusations have come backed by hard evidence of malicious behavior." https://www.pcmag.com/picks/the-best-antivirus-protection I decided to help the investigative journalists and found this missing piece of information! I recently made a post where these accusations where backed up by the Russian (yes, Russian) investigators. I created a post (without my comments and views on the matter), I only linked to the translated Russian source and added a couple of cited sentences. The post gets deleted in a matter of seconds! Such kind of blatant and biased censorship has no place on a technical forum. Relevant screengrabs archived as current moderator(s) have created an environment of mistrust by deleting undesirable posts. This incident has not (yet) been reported to the higher authorities of the forum, though I already obtained their contact details. But I still hope (yet) someone who deleted it will come to his senses. If in the future, if I'll be censored, pursued for my opinions, somehow again mistreated on this forum, I'll have no other choice but to resort to informing the dedicated European organisations and the free EU Press. MSFN is located in Europe and must obey the EU laws and regulations.3 points

Your statement suggests that there is no explanation on the linked Forbes website as to why Kaspersky was not listed. If that's what you meant to imply, I'm afraid that's not correct. The reasons are clearly stated on that website. Here is the link which can be found there easily: https://www.forbes.com/advisor/business/software/best-antivirus-software/#why_is_kaspersky_not_listed_section3 points

I put my trust in Forbes, it never let me down. Forbes is one the most reputable sources. There's no Kaspersky in the best 10 AV list, while the still supported XP version of Malwarebytes is being one of the "Best for Real-Time Protection". The article is free to read: https://www.forbes.com/advisor/business/software/best-antivirus-software/3 points

@Cocodile I am communicating with you as a fellow forum member, and I am in no way flaming you[1] or attacking your views/opinions or whatever. I was only trying to make you aware of the possible differences between a mountain and a molehill. @AstroSkipper As said it is a subtle difference, the explanation is given AFTER the statement. jaclaz [1] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flaming_(Internet)2 points

Excuse me, in what capacity do you communicate with me? Are you the "private forum" owner? Your post proves what I wrote before, it's purely personal. You would have to be warned or severely punished for such kind of thing! You simply flame me, which violates the rule 7.b. It's not the first time I read such rude jokes towards me. Something tells me this matter will be ignored, nevertheless, I'm publicly reporting your post to @xper, since simple moderators don't do anything about this personal attack, I saw a moderator and a supervisor just left this topic and didn't do anything. In the meantime, take your time to familiarise yourself: 7.b This community is built upon mutual respect. You are not allowed to flame other members. People who do not respect personal opinions and/or personal work will be warned in first instance. If you ignore the warning and keep on flaming, you will be banned without notice. https://msfn.org/board/guidelines/ As always, everything is recorded, despite the jokes.2 points

Yep, the integral quote is: They decided to NOT list it (which is perfectly fine) but they don't say why they removed it, they say why they recommend caution choosing it. It is a subtle difference. (not entirely unlike the Italian and French Authorities warnings). Talking of carrots, why we[1] don't list them anymore among vegetables? Carrots are re-known for being a good, safe and healthy food, very good for bettering eyesight[2], and there are no known confirmed studies about any adverse affect. However we don't list them anymore. A friend of our cousin hates the orange colours, so we recommend caution if you decide to eat carrots. jaclaz. [1] a completely hypothetical "we". [2] have you ever seen a rabbit with spectacles?2 points

Poor Cocodile, it must be tough to be prevented from flying ... these bad administrators or moderators clipping your wings... I don't recall any particular EU Law or regulation limiting moderation actions on a (private) technical internet forum, when/if you find the relevant one, please post a reference to it. The dedicated organizations? The free EU press? I expect that both will be very interested to the injustice you are suffering. On the other side, maybe Rule #8 needs to be integrated by a "No whining." after the "MSFN reserves the right to edit, delete or move posts made on this site." jaclaz2 points

You know I always wondered why Wilders Security Forums don't allow posts of This Antivirus Vs this Antivirus. After what I see here, now I know why. It leads to nonstop bickering. We have to allow people to make their own choices. You can't force people to like your favorite antivirus. All we can do as I said before, is list all antiviruses that work with XP. And let people decide whatever they want to use. In the end you test and decide what you want to use. Years ago I used to use Rising antivirus. It didn't do well in tests. But I liked it because it had a very easy to configure HIPS. You could set it to block programs from being added to startup and prevent any Browser Helper Object from being added and Prevent homepage from being changed among other stuff.. That alone helped me a lot. I used it myself and I put it on some of my clients computers. My clients were happy with it. I didn't let the thought of "If it's from China is bad" cloud my judgement. I just tested it and see if it worked. I would send malware samples to them and they were added quickly. I used it until they discontinue the english version. In conclusion test for yourself. Don't let anyone, not even a magazine review tell you what to use. After all, opinions can be bought. You have to test for yourself and make an informed decision.2 points

I can agree to that aspect, Mr. Saxon. Although in a more generalized sense, me thinks the thread just needs locked. All we have is two "gangs taking their fight to the streets". Public bickering under some guise of "I'm always right" and trying to convince the entire MSFN Membership of said "righteousness". Glimmers of informative posts here and there, but overall just an internet version of West Side Story.2 points

The word for today is: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarcasm When it comes to commercial products, I doubt that Forbes (or any other publication) is or can be actually reliable, and "voting" on antivirus programs is always somehow skewed/biased, even the actual tests (that surely Forbes Authors do not perform themselves) are tricky when it comes to this kind of programs. The PCMag in its list of best antivirus programs at least explains why Kaspersky has been excluded (political reasons[1]): https://www.pcmag.com/picks/the-best-antivirus-protection jaclaz [1] which not necessarily means they are not valid only because they are political.2 points

Thank you for the link to this article! Forbes has always been a renowned and excellent source of information of all kinds. Since the list of leading companies for security programmes is kept independent of versions and operating systems, it is relevant here. The editorial implementation there of what is or is not listed is consistent with the concept of security and confirms my stance here in the thread. Thanks again!2 points

It's one of the reasons I'm not a technician anymore. It's different in a corporate environment. You can't just take the easy way and format the computer to solve problems. There's a lot of configuration and data to be lost that way. I fix computers occasionally but it's just regular people that I can just save their photos or music collections and then paste it back after a format.1 point

I'm sorry if I missed, were you able to get fully working ungoogled 111 on 7 and Vista? Thnx. Ungoogled, not the simple chrome.1 point

Yes there is! Why would I tell, if it din't allow me to choose this option?!!??! See for yourself! https://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/select-boot-device-on-uefi-bios/ My MOBO allows me to select the booting device 1st optioin: "UEFI HDD" 2nd option: just "HDD" 3rd option and up to 10 or so, allows to select other UEFI or non-UEFI devices. Motherboard model: Biostar KabyLake H110MHV3 https://motherboarddb.com/motherboards/594/ So, like I wrote, I switched everything to "normal", and finally was able to install Windows 7! I hadn't tried Vista on that board.1 point
-
I myself have a KabyLake board, made in 2017-2018, I was able to use Windows 7 only after I changed from UEFI HDD to normal HDD and disabled all UEFI features that were shown in BIOS, including the GOP. UEFI 2.3.1 on paper, in theory yes, the question is, what people really want, it might be too hard to achieve, or nearly impossible with most of motherboards made after 2014. I haven't tried Vista on that kabylake mobo, but with the Haswell gen., it worked fine, but then again, Haswell is 2013, and the OP didn't tell us anything about his mobo.1 point

Yes! They surely implemented limitations in with Windows 7, with Vista one would have more success. Only Windows 8 / 8.1 / 10 can boot in real UEFI mode. Windows 7 doesn't even support the new UEFI GOP (Graphics Output Protocol) https://superuser.com/questions/1172089/can-only-install-windows-7-in-uefi-legacy-mode https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2828074/windows-7-setup-hangs-at-starting-windows-on-surface-pro1 point

Thank you for the advice! Much appreciated! But I'm afraid, I'm gonna have to ask you very politely, please, in the future, when you quote me, do not remove or somehow distort what I said. I don't mind my replies be partially quoted, but when you remove the most important parts, in this case something you clearly don't want to see, Interesting vulnerability in Kaspersky. (CVE-2019-8286)., it's just dirty and may point out to the thing that you simply have nothing more to say. Please be polite and respectful, like we do, it's what this forum is all about!1 point

It doesn't work for me, also. It starts for a second .... and then the window just disappears. Windows 7 and Vista, both. Windows 7 is updated to Jan. 2020 . Vista is updated to May 2019. Build 6003. Both computers have nVidia cards (you said it helps to run with the sandbox function).1 point

Hi, I'm getting crashes when I try to enable secure DNS in catsXP, seems like all chinese browsers I tried fail to do so ! Could you try it ? Thnx. Even when I simply move the slider to allow Secure DNS, I got an error !1 point

I too still use Iron version 104 (portable) . No slowness for me, try these. --disable-login-animations (no dancing raptors then) --disable-hang-monitor --disable-highres-timer (really helps on very old motherboards, like LGA775) --disable-low-end-device-mode (may have the opposite effect on low RAM devices). The above flag also disables certain hardware checks upon the startup. addition: if goes bad, then try --enable-low-end-device-mode And yes, I'm also talking about the US Ebay.1 point

Normally, @feodor2 released new versions nearly every two months. Now, it is more than three months ago since his last release. Hope all is well!1 point

Interesting news! A new release of Mypal 68 will come soon. It seems to be the version Mypal 68.13.0. This is a quotation from @feodor2 on GitHub's issues: Here is the link again: https://github.com/Feodor2/Mypal68/issues/3#issuecomment-1279302448. Thanks to @mixit for the hint! So, we have to be patient and stay tuned! I am very much looking forward to this new release. Cheers, AstroSkipper1 point

Thanks for the tip, @mixit! I thought any activity on GitHub is shown under activities. Very strange and a bit illogical! A comment in the issues is actually an activity, too. That a new release will come soon, I already noticed in the issues, though. Anyway, thanks again for the clarification!1 point

Hello @XPerceniol! Haven't heard from you for a while! Hope you are well! With regard to your question, I didn't hear anything from @feodor2 since 2022-08-19. And on GitHub, his last activity was from August, too. Since then, no further activity! Unfortunately, I don't know anything more. And truth be told, I've also been worrying about his well-being and his safety.1 point
