Hello @NojusK! Good decision! You can find all about Malwarebytes Free and Malwarebytes Premium here: Cheers, AstroSkipper3 points

Yep, roytam1 is absolutely right, version_20230902 will crash on any page where there is a file upload/processing dialog opening. Here are more examples: https://www.virustotal.com/gui/home/upload https://www.imagebam.com/ https://www.deepl.com/translator/files https://translate.google.com/?sl=auto&tl=en&op=docs And about the problems with the e10s and its support..... Moonchild can howl all he wants (that's why he's a wolf)... But Serpent is valuable because it allows you to parallelize processes, which makes the browser much more comfortable. And at least it doesn't throw the system into BSOD like Mypal68 (with all due respect to feodor2's work.).2 points

Here is a guide how to make Firefox 118 beta 2 work on 8.0: 1. Install Explorer Suite (which includes CFF Explorer): https://ntcore.com/?page_id=388 2. Download the exe installer from this site: https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/118.0b2/win64/en-US/Firefox Setup 118.0b2.exe (the only version that I tested, but that should work on FF 116/117 too) 3. Extract it via 7-Zip 4. Open all exe files located in core folder using CFF Explorer 5. In Optional Header change MajorOperatingSystemVersion and MajorSubsystemVersion from A to 6 (and repeat that to all exe files that have set those aforementioned versions as A) 6. Save them 7. Copy this dll file to Firefox folder 8. Open Firefox, and voila, you got working Firefox 118 beta 2 api-ms-win-shcore-scaling-l1-1-1.dll2 points

I'd say that is "successful" but it may lead to another problem, "memory leaking". thats why I finally reverted all of them. mozilla's fix is doing this, but underlying infrastructure (i.e. IPDL) is needed to be updated in order to apply that fix. and of course those changes are too huge for me to handle. not really, every page that allows opening file dialog for uploading/processing will be affected by that "fix". reverting those changes actually fixes the problem that fix brings to us.2 points

... Again, cautionary words from "upstream" : https://forum.palemoon.org/viewtopic.php?p=242821#p242821 ... So, as I've stated multiple times in the past myself, "use e10s at your own risk" (I'm not, if you care to ask ) ... Browsers like Serpent and Mypal 68 in single-process mode, that's what I only use under Windows XP. Stable and ideal for old computers.2 points

Sounds about right! I have a third gen. Titan XP (2016), idles at 39, full load's at 79-81. Maybe because of the sunny side of the house.2 points

If Celsius, it's way too hot for idle.2 points

UpdRoots process the files based on the parameters not filename, e.g. if you run updroots.exe delroots.sst it will add the certificates not delete them Usage: UpdRoots [options] <SrcStoreFilename> Options are: -h - This message -d - Delete (default is to add) -l - Local Machine (default is Third Party) -u - Add to disallowed root store based on some checking, updroots.sst contain certificates that can be downloaded separately from WU (manually or using CertUtil –generateSSTFromWU), e.g. http://ctldl.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/v3/static/trustedr/en/8F43288AD272F3103B6FB1428485EA3014C0BCFE.crt authroots.sst certificates are not downloadable separately from WU2 points

I basically only trust the readings from GPU-Z, if we talk only about GPU temperature. Just a suggestion, may add in autostart mode.2 points
-
A bit, maybe, not much though, if we are to assume you run very basic 59-60HZ screens. Those who have troubles with high temps on a multi setup, they usually run 120HZ monitors and up.1 point

What I posted is to disable MS Updates not Defender. You have to use another antivirus anyway if you disable updates since Defender requires MS updates enabled to download definitions.1 point

Sordum kills Defender Control updates due to conflict with Microsoft Defender "According to Sordum, users have been reporting problems and errors in their systems whereby they are unable to open or re-enable Microsoft Defender" https://www.neowin.net/news/sordum-kills-defender-control-updates-due-to-conflict-with-microsoft-defender/1 point

Two possibilities, either you live in Hell, or you need to replace the thermal solution, because even a higher binned GT640 runs idle at 37C and at about 75C under full load, and this matches the temps of the above posters. https://forums.tomshardware.com/threads/gt640-safe-temperatures.2014480/1 point

To each their own. I find it distracting. Many people around the world consider GPU-Z to be the best. Its readings are accurate.1 point

My ancient first Titan from Feb. 2013, fossil, idles at 36 Celsius, in a usual case. Full load at 77 Celsius (very demanding games). Ambient room temp is about 18 - 20 Celsius.1 point

Maybe his card has passive cooling. Another possibility. it's too old (pre-2008-2009) to downclock itself, when in idle, or the drivers are buggy.1 point

There's also USB Disk Ejector, lightweight and open-source USB removal tool, another good free alternative to the USB Safely Remove. https://quickandeasysoftware.net/software/usb-disk-ejector Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, 10 (32 and 64 bit)1 point

For those who don't wanna pay, try ProEject "is a software tool whose purpose is to aid people in dismounting removable drives faster, by closing running apps and opened windows, as well as in cleaning the registry and device" https://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Hard-Disk-Utils/ProEject.shtml Get back with your thoughts. I also want to try. Thanks. Full XP support is claimed.1 point

Why should I feel discredited? Such renaming by using the console is elementary and old practice. I already did it that way in the good old DOS days. But if batch renaming other parts of files, I always use the multi-rename tool of Total Commander.1 point

I use console extensively, hence the on-topic question I asked, I don't want to read A4 size spammy sheets written in poor English, you want to bring fights over and over again, I'm not interested in that. I'm one of the most polite people. And since you acknowledged you use simple apps, you're just a casual user, so there was nothing to "discredit", to begin with. I'm not sorry, I took the opinion of a PhD holder over yours. As for the other user, I assume you meant jaclaz? I know jaclaz for a long time, not only from this forum. Please stop your miserable attempts to create hostility between us. There's none! jaclaz likes when people confirm their words with hard proof, I respect him for that. He already explained everything he meant, thank you, jaclaz! jaclaz, I'm sorry I couldn't reply, got distracted with work. In a wonderful country, where I live, It's absolutely fine to have a second opinion of two doctors, despite both having PhD,. there's nothing "discrediting" in that. Or maybe you meant @AstroSkipper, who also wrote about this? @AstroSkipper,do you feel somehow "discredited" by this link? Please tell. https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/how-do-i-batch-change-file-extensions-in-windows/f1b4219c-f2fe-4f25-83de-55ce8e7a71f81 point

I literally wrote: I have doubts, no need to activate your other senses, I, of course, could simply forget, and I have no shame in it, I don't use XP daily, but what does it have to do with "pain" and "fear", unless imagining me in trouble makes you feel better. If so, please go on, however, interesting would be to know what you think about the on-topic subject, as a long time WinXP diehard. Did you have that function already, or you applied the registry hack that brings it to windows XP SP3? As for your worries about my personal life, I'd better be served in a nice restaurant near my house, with a nice Dutch dish, instead of your word salad, so please, stick to technical information only.1 point

Thanks, the thing is, they say that command doesn't work on bare XP SP3, but Steve, Steve Cochran, Ph.D. MS-MVP 1998 - 2014, who has Ph.d and MS-MVP, doesn't agree with them. See this post. https://msfn.org/board/topic/176299-latest-version-of-software-running-on-xp/?do=findComment&comment=1249632 https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/how-do-i-batch-change-file-extensions-in-windows/f1b4219c-f2fe-4f25-83de-55ce8e7a71f8 MS-MVP is very serious, see here: https://mvp.microsoft.com/en-US/pages/what-it-takes-to-be-an-mvp So, to be honest, I don't know whom to trust. I heard @jaclazis an experienced member, on the other hand, we have {at least} one more user to support him, but in contrast to Steve, I highly doubt @VistaLover has ever won the Most Valuable Professional award at Microsoft, or even has a Ph.D., I can't find that information about jaclaz either, also. Looks like they both lack both, so, I want to trust them, but I just don't know... On my old XP laptop- it works, perhaps I already made the reg. fix log tome ago, I honestly don't remember.1 point

Here is a quotation from BackgroundCMD's website: Your "proper" "command prompt here" does nothing different from Total Commander's "solution" "Open command prompt window". I personally do not use the Windows Explorer for file management but Total Commander. And I don't like too much unnecessary entries in the context menu. Therefore, I can't see why such a solution is not as proper as yours. I think the following rule applies: AstroSkipper1 point

Oh , and why some of you , keep saying he needs to upgrade to 4GB , he already did that and wrote in his fourth post here "We already upgraded the ram to 4gb so it seems to be a little better" , sorry to remind you folks, it's a done deal . But "a little better" is not a good result , don't you agree ?1 point

Sorry, but no. I said "I took a look at that 800mhz CPU". That's right , read your link again , the CPU has only 800mhz Bus speed . 800mhz + slow chipset + DDR2 (guessing DDR2 will not even be 400mhz , more likely to be 333Mhz(667)) = slow notebook for win-7. @jaclaz is totally right , Windows 7 has lots of unneeded background tasks , a lot more than the others ! So now he will be considered as windows 7 hater too , just for stating the facts ? In my experience the bare minimum win-7 laptop should have DDR3 and a decent chipset , I guess our experienced members do know about the importance of chipsets and FSB data rate . I still have one laptop with DDR2 and had to install Win 7 on it to test some programme before deciding if I want to port it to Vista . Gosh it was painfully slow . No need for benchamarks , Just launching a browser is like 3x slower. All I'm saying slow FSB may be enough for older systems , but when it comes to the newer ones , like 7 , it will be much slower , this should come as no surprise. Why SSD may help , because Windows 7 just likes to read/write lots of data , esp. during boots.1 point

I don't know where you live and what shortages you're talking about , oh , now I see , you say you live in France . Shortages in France !? Hmm .. Anyway , I can tell you where to buy any laptop starting from 250 Euro , from Western Germany with cheap delivery to any part of the world . A good store since 1999. I do not want to publish the link to the shop here , who knows , maybe it will be considered as an advertisement . But I will , if our dear moderators will agree , we need to help the mother , don't we ? So you may want to ask them. EDIT : or I can send you a message with the shop's name, if you want .1 point
-
Why ? People sell their boxed editions of Vista , sometimes very very cheap , because Vista is not very popular (to my surprise) , it is perfectly legal.1 point
-
Hi and welcome , @Anonymous76 ! First of all , Windows 7 is much slower than Vista (no surprise here). Your CPU is just too slow to handle a million of modern updates with Win 7 . Updates slow down any computer , I'm sure our very experienced user @Gansangriff will agree . What you may try . 1 - Get back to Vista (obviously). 2 -If you want (need/like) Win-7 that much : Install it without SP1 . Just "Windows 7 RTM Build 7600". SP1 gives nothing but bloat . There are plenty of users complaining about slowdowns after their installation of SP1. Also , I would suggest to install 32-bit Win-7 on that computer and disable updates (yes , my opininon from a huge experience). You can , of course , install some updates manually , only the ones you really need/want. 3 - Get Windows Vista 64-bit and install Extended Kernel by @win32 . For that you will need this only one update KB4467700-x64 insatalled before the kernel. If you play DX11 games - you need to install KB2117917 and KB971512. That's it ! You can also install VC redist 2015 and Framework 4.5 . You do not need anything else, if you don't click suspicious links.1 point
-
Win32 is really busy with more important things than answering this loooong texts . You should read and re-test for youself , like many times. Like we do. Trial and error . You're not the only one , you know. And read the original instructions precisely (maybe use translate if you don't read English well enough) I repeat his words again : April 2017 . (hence the famous ISO)1 point
-
It's already been answered earlier too. Please , do not double post , just scroll back , use search , e.t.c.1 point
-
Well , those aren't "my instructions" , those were given by win32 and PERFECTLY working in my case (the local method). If you want , you may scroll back and read it in his own words (why didn't you do that earlier, if you don't understand my explanations ?) . I'm not really sure what you do , but I remember you even had problems with BSOD after replacing the kernel in your system , yet others didn't . Win32 told many times , his files are meant to Vista updated to April 2017 , you may ask again or re-read the comments . So best solution would be the local method , yet it doesn't work in your case too . Perhaps you may wanna ask someone else.1 point

Yes, all of them . Opera's own launcher and installer not needed (you only need your portable launcher) , also may throw away opera_autoupdate and opera_crashreporter . (!) How needs that ?1 point
-
Replace all files in your x86 portable version with the extracted files from Opera 72 (64 bit) from the link I gave you . Extract with 7zip . I have a fully working Opera , it works 100% percent ! Also you need to add the flag to the shortcut , win32 wrote about (scroll to the earlier comments). Don't forget to like and ask , don't be shy xD . Edit : This works if you replaced the kernel in your system already . If you use the local method , I gave you full instructions earlier.1 point
-
Please tell , the buit in adblock is updating lists in your case ? My aero isn't working too.1 point
-
There you have it ! You need ONLY 64 bit . I will share this direct link to ALL official Opera versions from their archive . https://get.geo.opera.com/pub/opera/desktop/ You just need to extract it with 7zip , replace the files in your portable version, no installation needed . And use that portable launcher. Everyone , notice he has Aero working with Opera...1 point
