  8. As I already mentioned, you have to do this via copy and save the CSS code from the stylesheet site such as https://userstyles.org/styles/180927/disable-css-animations-and-transitions-safely.css. Scroll down to the bottom of this site, click onto "Show code", copy it, create in Stylem an empty stylesheet and insert the copied code. Then save it by giving the original name provided on this site. That's all. BTW, you can create such a stylesheet globally or for a specific website.

  13. Of course you have to kill the running service first, ether by running this command in services.msc just like you don't delete a file in use. Assumed this is obvious as this was the next step what you should do after disabling the service in services.msc if that's not enough . This is more of a newbie question though, so perhaps I should also be more specific that wuauserv is stored in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\wuauserv not HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services and you don't need to export&import all the services.

  14. Just an update on page 36 when I could not get 360Chrome to work. When you mentioned Internet Explorer settings and also that Chrome use your Operating System's "certificate store", I decided to download and install Internet Explorer 8. This has definitely fixed it. 360Chrome loads instantly and cruises the Internet fast. There must have been some file corruption or certificates missing with the default install of Internet Explorer 6. I never used it and always used Firefox and then New Moon.

  15. ... No, it's NOT (compatible with any CPython version < 3.7); you're just "cheating" , by running the "source" with a "community" recompiled/produced (see my previous reply to @Mark-XP here) CPython version 3.9 : which doesn't officially (as in by the PSF) support Windows < 8.1 (BTW, Python code doesn't target specific OS versions, only specific Python versions) ... You added "binary" yourself, there ; I was referring to the yt-dlp source code, which should also cover all binaries compiled from it! As I wrote already, the PSF EoL'ed Windows XP SP3 with CPython 2.7.18 and 3.4.10, none of which is currently supported by yt-dlp (source) code ; as I also wrote previously, the youtube-dl (source) code does still support both aforementioned CPython versions (and, thus, XP SP3); is now everything crystal clear? I hope so ... Warmest (as in being under yet another heatwave here) greetings from Greece !

  16. ... Do note, though , that this specific binary size pertains to native compilation under Linux: Cross-compilation on Linux targeting WinXP will result in quite larger binaries, compared to the ones produced for native Linux usage... Even larger file sizes are being produced under native Windows FFmpeg compilation ... Regards

  24. Even though I too like the French VLC media player very much, don't forget about the other famous player - MPC-HC, not to be confused with the infamous, cheap knock-off MPC-BE, that can't evn properly handle HD streams. MPC-HC also works very good with the new gen. BluRay UHD.

  25. If you want to avoid that, make something short and easy to understand, not Wikipedia (even if it's complete and we have all details, not everyone is able to read all of that and understand, or even choose the right section to get the information they're looking for). Or make a section "Frequently Asked Questions", with the common questions about this. If you want to reply, send me a private message, this is kinda polluting the thread (which does not make the search easy for people who are trying to find a specific post). My post is a complete article containing everything about these proxies. At the beginning, there is a table of contents. And you have a site search in nearly all browsers. If that's not enough, there's unfortunately nothing I can do to help. Those seeking information should be prepared to read, otherwise they will unfortunately have to be content with trivial knowledge. In such a case, however, one should not spread information about such things. You are referring to the TLS 1.2 proxies from @heinoganda and @Thomas S.. These proxies are no longer up-to-date, either. Oh my dear! I gave you the link and the sections. What more do you need to find information? Once again: Here is the link to my article: Have a look at the sections 8. The TLS 1.3 proxy ProxyMII and 9. The TLS 1.3 proxy ProxHTTPSProxy's PopMenu TLS 1.3! Hope you will find it finally!

  26. Where did you see that? Did you do a research first? Unfortunately, you are wrong and not up-to-date. The most recent ProxHTTPSProxy TLS 1.3 1.5.220717 does not require a CPU with SSE2 instruction set anymore, SSE only is sufficient. I thought you read my article "ProxHTTPSProxy and HTTPSProxy in Windows XP for future use". Have a look at the section 8 and 9: ProxHTTPSProxyM v1.3a is unsecure and only needed in very special situation but definitely not under Windows XP. And BTW, there are big differences between both proxies that is all described in detail in my article. In any case, providing such information is rather misleading and should be avoided.

  27. @WULover! For using the "Restoring WU/MU by using the patch + proxy" method I described in detail long time ago here it is not necessary or recommended to use the old, deprecated ProxHTTPSProxyM v1.3a. The most recent ProxHTTPSProxy TLS 1.3 1.5.220717 works perfectly with MU/WU and is more secure. Cheers, AstroSkipper

  30. Restoring AU/MU/WU using a proxy server There is a new method to restore AU/MU/WU in Windows XP (and also for other Windows versions, which are not topic here, though). This method was created by @ItCoder. Here is the link to its post: He provides a specific installer for each Windows version. Here is the link: https://1drv.ms/u/s!AsVjtW11rJfA3FQANrgg_QXRMgfx?e=lCF2lV The installer for Windows XP is XP.exe. I didn't test this method. No need here for a further method to restore AU/MU/WU. I already have two working methods to check for updates. My system is fully updated, and new updates won't come anymore as we already know. Unfortunately, the whole method is not really well documented. Therefore, I can't say much about it. It seems you have to execute the installer, follow the prompt, and then it should work. It is perhaps interesting that this method is also said to restore AU. If you tested this method, it would be very interesting to participate from your experiences. Feel free to comment! Cheers, AstroSkipper Edit: More details about this method here:

  32. I'm not too sure about that. Once you hang around a forum long enough, you know who is helpful and who is here just for "attention", for "look at me", for "I'm always right and I'm here to prove it to the world", et cetera. When I first joined, I certainly didn't look at that "rep number" to gauge how accurate or helpful replies to any questions were (or were not). And those that don't hang around long enough to witness just who among us is helpful and who among us is not, how can we assume that short-term visitor was gauging anything whatsoever by any "rep number". Granted, I so heavily custom-style-sheet this forum that I haven't seen a "rep number" in over two years. edit - I wonder if a "solution" to the high-frequency posters (which seems is what this thread is mainly discussing [I for one "dislike" visiting the "unread" or "active" link and have to scroll through all of the "clutter"], I wonder if just limiting the number of posts that members can do within an hour or day is the "solution"? I mean, I know I often post "often", but the "clutter" threads are on a whole different "level".
    1 point
  33. Agreed. That has been a big nuisance of late. But I am also reminded of a year or so ago when we had "two" forum members that always liked each other's posts, no matter how "useful" or unuseful the posts actually were. It was rumored that the "two" forum members was actually only ONE PERSON "liking" their own posts just for the sake of that USELESS "reputation". To the point of even "yelling at" OTHER forum members for not "liking" their posts when this "person" liked any other forum member's posts. It's a "generation thing", I suspect. I have no interest in "social media" web sites but MOST of them all "thrive" on the "like" button and how many "followers" the user is able to "collect". So yes, unfortunate, but we have members here at this forum that carry that "Instagram", "Twitter", "Facebook", et cetera "look at me, I have 2000 followers" mentality herein and falsely think it "means something".

  39. I'm not sure how to make this "proof" , as I told before , this program installs just fine , then I launch it , everything is fine too ... then it just quits without warnings or errors. It may happen in about 5 minutes or 20 , the time is different in each case . I can't make a screenshot of this quitting program , it's obvious . Of course you may not listen , the choice is yours. The most important here, Microsoft doesn't officially support 4.7.2 and 4.6.2 or even 4.6.1 on Vista , so it is you who should create "proof" that it is working in your case , I mean , your word against the official statement of Microsoft. 40. I don't think so , I had multiple problems on various machines , software just quits itself for no apparent reason , for example PwerDVD , tried versions from 14 to 17. As soon as I revert back to 4.5.1 , everything works flawlesly. And some more conflicts and crashes with certain (quite popular software). May I ask , what for do you need 4.7.2 or even 4.6.1 on Vista ?

  42. Hi , yes . It's a telemetry monster with tons of connections to Russian ISPs. Definitely not for users looking even for minimal privacy. You're better off with UCBrowser, in that case. It is much faster and there are some portable versions with partially removed Chinese telemetry. Of course one should install ADBLOCK with Chinese lists checked. And use firewall to block Chinese IPs.

  43. Hi , for me 4.6 and 4.6.1 gave nothing but troubles , esp. with video software . The best and most compatible is 4.5.1 , I think it is the last .NET which should be advised for installation to the non-experienced (ordinary) users.

I have VCRedist 2005 - 2015 , NET 4.5.1 and DX11 installed without any troubles , you don't need to instal any updates for them to work , you just need to update certificates, there is plenty of info on this marvellous forum regarding this issue. I hope some veteran members will give you the direct link.
