  1. JPEG-XL seems working in XP.

  2. No, I am not putting words in anyone's mouth. I asked (I believe politely/amicably) for a reason for this change of mind as it seemed unrelated to a cited event that happened more than one year ago. Then, since someone started nitpicking, accusing me of (non existing) provocations/accusations, I tried (vainly) to explain how that was how I understood (or misunderstood) your post. Now you accuse me of putting words in other people's mouths. Rest assured it is not the case. Still, I am both a comedian and and a clairvoyant, so if I actually wanted to put words in someone else's mouth, I would have been allowed to do that and also aspire to some success with it. Anyway, I see that in this new MSFN it is not possible anymore to have a normal, plain, conversation, so I'll declare this thread an SEP and move somewhere else. jaclaz

  3. Sure, you are perfectly free to change your mind, but I don't think anyone is interested in knowing that you changed your mind, whilst maybe someone may be interested in the reasons why. The German warning is some 15 months ago, roughly at the same time the US FCC issues a similar one: https://www.fcc.gov/supplychain/coveredlist (the US banned Kaspersky use in government computers much earlier, 2017 if I recall correctly). So, unless you overlooked those signals, what made you change your mind now? jaclaz

  4. “All”? “Anymore”? It would’ve been astounding to me if Kaspersky had ever been listed on page 1, post 2 of this thread (last edited June 12), but of course it never was and obviously never will be. You have only mentioned Kaspersky on page 15 to mention that it will never be mentioned!? MSFN is open to members from all nations (and yes there have been some Russian members). Of course you have a petty military alliance of your own with D.Draker/Cocodile, who has been trying to suppress any discussion of Kaspersky for a long time (offending me in the process even though I’m an American who never used Kaspersky). Your clique appears to be winning the MSFN War, so congratulations on your achievement!

  6. No it is not a provocation, nor an accusation, nor anything else, I simply listed the main things forbidden by MSFN Rules, and couldn't see which one of them has even a feeble connection to the possible reason why Astroskipper changed his mind. The political/religious debate (Rule #2.b) is prohibited, but there is an exception carved out explicitly for technology topics, and a simple statement, like the one Astroskipper just posted, is anyway more than enough, there is nothing to debate about it. What perplexed me in the original announcement was the apparent non sequitur, as I read it, essentially: "The national authority of my country issued a warning in March 2022, I didn't believe it for some 15 months, today I changed my mind." So I asked if there was some relevant news that triggered this re-evaluation. jaclaz

  7. jaclaz, is this a provocation? Please tell me. Even these words alone surely look like somewhat hidden accusations. You of all, with your deep knowledge of English, should have known. no?

  8. Subject: Kaspersky In Germany, the "Bundesamt für Sicherheit und Information (BSI)", in English the "Federal Office for Information Security (BSI)", had already warned against the use of anti-virus software from the Russian manufacturer Kaspersky on 15 March 2022: https://www.bsi.bund.de/DE/Themen/Unternehmen-und-Organisationen/Cyber-Sicherheitslage/Technische-Sicherheitshinweise-und-Warnungen/Warnungen-nach-Par-7/Archiv/FAQ-Kaspersky/faq_node.html (German website, use an online translator!). I already reported the warning from BSI months ago in the old antivirus thread. In the meanwhile, I have changed my mind and now share the official concerns about Kaspersky. Thus, I have removed Kaspersky Antivirus from my internal list and will not write an article about this programme anymore. In these times, one cannot seriously entrust the security of one's computer to such a programme due to its origin. A more in-depth consideration at this point cannot be carried out due to our forum rules. Kind regards, AstroSkipper

  9. Notice: while there is no significant commit in upstream, and while I'm trying to plug back JPEG-XL, there will be no UXP based build today.

  10. Unfortunately, you did. This sentence is written in inverted commas and in the first person. Thus, you speak in my place. I said: "one" is an impersonal pronoun and therefore does not refer to you personally. AstroSkipper

  11. You seem to like putting words in other people's mouths. Unfortunately, you can only fail with that, unless one is a comedian or a clairvoyant. Fifteen months ago, I couldn't care less what was going on with Kaspersky. I didn't and don't use this programme anyway. A few months ago, I wrote about the warning from BSI in the old antivirus thread. And now, I have come to the decision already posted. I'm actually listing all the available security programmes for Windows XP here in this thread, but Kaspersky will definitely not be on my list anymore. No more and no less.

  12. Simply put, the world-wide situation which is changing from minute to minute. As you surely know, we are not allowed to talk here about war and politics. Therefore, no deeper explanations from me on my decision, they are actually obvious and need no further motivation at this point, either.

  13. No intention to speak for others, I was clearly expressing my personal opinion (I don't think ...). Anyway, I cannot understand which of our Forum Rules may prevent you from explaining what made you change your mind (if you actually want to share it, of course), warez?, political or religious debate?, racism, pornography, threats, profanity, or excessive vulgarity?, flaming other members? No problem however, I can cope with this question remaining unanswered. jaclaz

  16. Of course! And you see I did. Don't speak for others, speak for yourself! What others are interested in or not you can't really know. Such statements are speculative and meaningless. I did not overlook the different warnings at all. I already reported the warning from BSI months ago in the old antivirus thread. As I already wrote in my previous post, a more in-depth consideration at this point cannot be carried out due to our forum rules. Maybe, you overlooked it. AstroSkipper

  20. Here is a quotation about security programmes and their age from my introducing post: And of course, most important is that they have to be fully working without any issues.

  21. Very funny! But all joking aside, here is the corrected version: There is no jury here. And therefore there is no verdict. You can only get information here. And since you're the only one who asked, I can only answer you first. Here is a hint once again: I used Sygate Personal Firewall under Windows ME and for a while under Windows XP. It was my favourite firewall for a long time in the old days. It is still installed in my Windows ME partition which I never deleted for historical reasons. I used the German version Sygate Personal Firewall Platinum 5.5.2307.0 from 2004. Later, I changed to the English version Sygate Personal Firewall Pro 5.6.3408.0 from 2005. Due to some reasons, I stopped using it under Windows XP. Sygate Personal Firewall could not recognise certain processes that wanted to connect to the Internet via other processes, such as web filtering processes. There were no more updates, and the problems could accordingly no longer be fixed. In addition, there were no more definition updates. So I switched to more modern firewalls with a heavy heart. Presumably, due to Sygate's age, IPv6 support is also missing. In a nutshell, Sygate Personal Firewall is too old (abandoned 2005), it is therefore not on my list, and I won't write an article about it, unfortunately. It is still a good firewall for Windows ME (or Windows 98), but IMHO definitely no longer an option for Windows XP.

  23. Think that you use a French language version, can give you my update list and if you want a complete update rollup for Office 2007 (If interested, send me a PM).
