You're probably remembering JustOff's "Modify HTTP Response," which is how I initially solved the issue; but I think your user script is a better solution for me since, e.g., ViolentMonkey will run in multiprocess mode, while JustOff's extension won't. BTW has anyone yet noticed similar CSS breakage on GitHub? M$ seems determined to break any browser that won't run on Win 10+. Edit: Well, it works in a clean profile.... I wonder which extension or config setting only breaks GitHub? Edit 2: Well, it's uBO. (Grr.) Strangely, though, when enabled, GitHub breaks - yet uBO doesn't report blocking anything! How am I supposed to tell what to unblock?2 points

Good. Yep, multi-process mode is the reason for this, it splits FF into multiple processes so that FF performs faster by making it use more memory. It's has been enabled by default since FF 54.2 points

@Cixert! You are really helpful here. Thank you for your contributions! IObit Malware Fighter, another candidate which is already on my list. Unfortunately, I have had the same unpleasant experience as you. IObit tries to push their Advanced Systemcare product on every user. This is totally annoying. I have also noticed the increased consumption of resources. And when you uninstall software from IObit, there is always something left over. Then it's a matter of searching and manual cleaning.. On the plus side, IObit Malware Fighter is still compatible with Windows XP, for whatever that's worth. Unfortunately, in Windows XP we can't be very picky and have to consider every option, even those we would normally discard. At the moment, we still have other options, fortunately.2 points

They have the numbers, they know for a fact that you're not worth their time. 2 XP visitors to every 120,000 Win10 visitors (I made up those numbers, but you get the gist). And as somebody mentioned in this thread or another, don't recall, WE have OURSELVES to blame - we fake a "modern" user agent on a "modern" OS and so we ourselves are even telling them that nobody on XP is using their web site.1 point

I am sure that when the web with Windows XP cannot be accessed I will abandon the computer science. I am not satisfied with the pretensions of user control that intends the new world order. I want to be free and that my computer does what I order, not what orders a great corporation that intends to guide me on the way.1 point

@mina7601 OK, I re-quoted, just in case, but seriously, you're taking this to your heart too much. I wasn't angry or upset at all, I was merely trying to point out one would really have to get out of their way to actually write their post 3 times. I feel old. Maybe not in a literal sense, but I feel like I've already seen everything that was there to be seen and I'm just waiting for the death to come pick me up.1 point

Maybe you're in dark mode? Because IDM uses custom dark mode. Is window context menu acrylic? Or maybe you're not admin and it's elevated? Or hidden from taskbar? Observe DebugView output when launching app.1 point

I forgot to mention in regards to the previous issues with Far Cry series games. I never got Reshade to work to a point where a game would actually launch but now the point is moot. Ubisoft has moved to a new version of Ubisoft Connect that no longer generates any sort of error. The process just exits (cleanly it appears, as there is no crash log) after a few seconds. I can't do any more troubleshooting or testing with it because I just decided to uninstall all of those games.1 point

No disagreement. Although users should be reminded that it was "Meltdown" and "Spectre" vulnerabilities that largely brought about the need for multi-process versus single-process more so than the increased number of multi-core CPUs. MSFN Members were quick to point out that Chrome and its forks can have site isolation disabled and reduce RAM 20% or so but that Chrome itself would prefer you use a different browser then use theirs with site isolation disabled. Has the same level of scrutiny been applied to disabling Mozilla's site isolation topology? Low-on-resource users must weigh the pros and cons - but they should also be aware of those pros and cons. If "Meltdown" and "Spectre" scared you into losing sleep when their tentacles were sprawling the internet, then you should think twice before disablling site isolation (which in the case of Firefox and forks, single-process = site isolation disabled). edit - I used to shout from the roof top that single-process was "superior". I can only speak from my own paradigm, but to me, RAM consumptions had me "blind-sided" and viewing browser performance through a tunnel-vision lens. It took me a LONG TIME to break myself from that perspective. EVERY COMPUTER is different, so this is not a "blanket statement", but what I started doing is looking at SPEED instead of RAM. If a computer running at 80% of RAM being used isn't slowing anything down, then why run the risk of "Meltdown" or "Spectre"? If the SPEED of everything is the same at 20% as it is at 80%, then why is the sky falling when we coast around at 80%? Again, that was just MY paradigm-break. We all know our own computers better than others, so everyone must "decide for themselves" what works for them and what doesn't.1 point

All more recent browsers show these behaviour. If you have a lot of RAM, it should be not a problem at all although I don't like such consumption. My Windows XP Professional computer is very low on resources. Only 1.5 GB RAM. One of the reasons I appreciate @roytam1's browser so much. On my machine, they are running in single-process mode, consuming RAM as they actually should do. Additionally, I installed Mypal 68 from the very first and also configured it working in single-process mode. It works great, and its RAM usage is low.1 point

Thank you. I'm loving Windows 7. I installed the minios version. A lighter and improved version. I realize as I put hours on it that the real problem is not only the non-compatibility. The problem is that programs that in XP work, in Windows 7... simply can't get them to work right. Lots of errors that I can't find info on and I end up in a dead end. I ended up doing a dual boot with XP and 7 to split tasks. It works for now. Well, I assure you that I can sniff out their play. That's why I keep testing MyPal, but it's also giving me headaches. Memory wise it works better than FF, but it won't let me install any extensions. When I want to search from the address bar, it won't let me search. I will try to spend more time on it and not lose patience. I will look for info regarding what you say about multi-processing, which seems to be the case. Every time I use FF and open the task manager to see why my ram disappears there are thousands of FF processes there.1 point

Let's hope that's not the case, Roy. Always grateful for your releases... and that's an understatement. I wanted to tell you all that I have been experimenting with Windows 7. It seems to be a reliable, stable, lightweight operating system. It runs smoothly. In fact, it boots faster than our dear old XP. I've slapped it around a bit and it holds up very well to the abuse. Firefox is still compatible, although the latest version does not support some extensions that I use and miss very much. Another problem is that it consumes a lot of memory... a lot. Having 4 or 5 tabs open means more than 2gb of ram gone. I've taken the opportunity to test the latest version of MyPal -thanks Feodor- and it seems to work very well. At memory level it seems similar and I still could not test if the extensions I use are compatible, but the good news is that Whatsapp Web works. Still... I could not get used to Windows 7. It offers some compatibility but several key programs are no longer compatible. So for now I'm sticking with XP.1 point

Unfortunately you cannot create Amperes without using Watts, if we go for: 30A@3.3V 30A@5V 40A@12V those imply 30*3.3+30*5+40*12=99+150+480=729 Watts, so a 750 W would be more suitable, but newer 750W ones generally speaking don't have as well more juice on the 3.3V and 5V than the mentioned 20-25A, so if the requirements are confirmed, OP has no other option than finding an used PSU , it seems like the extra Wattage on recent PSU's goes all on the 12 V rail. It's working there bro...just reduce the app window size and r-click any dwonloaded file...u will see. I've question, is it possible to use some of the settings with EP too or can SAB port the Win10 Start from starting version of windows like 22000.52. Bcoz for the reason of Start menu, I'm using both of the apps. I know it is not recommended but..1 point

Tihiy this is great! Just a question, are there any plans for properties dialog's to display in dark theme when launched from other applications? For example I use Directory Opus as my primary file manager rather than explorer and it would be awesome if the property sheets would be dark themed when launched from DOpus. Thanks!!1 point

That's what usually is said in terms of XP and Vista. Partly true, partly not! I think we already know all arguments. My installation is very old. It did not register itself in Security Center. I can't say what would happen if I did a fresh installation. In this case, it is a proper name and is always written as the author intended, regardless of spelling. We don't really want to go into further linguistic considerations, do we? Apart from that, it would be unfortunately off-topic.1 point

Getting some more time to take a breathe is always a good thing. TBH, I have actually always thought that there is no digital barrier in terms of computers and internet that cannot be overcome, by whatever means. As a European and German, I naturally have no idea what such a barrier really looks like, how it is technically realised and what the consequences of discovering a circumvention might be at your location. Your life and well-being come first in any case, of course. Greetings from Germany, AstroSkipper PS: You are undoubtedly the one who made it possible for me to extend the life of my Windows XP computer by years. I will always be grateful to you for that. And I hope it will never end! I am definitely a Windows XP die-hard fan as you surely know.1 point

How is this "rude" and "unfounded", if you just confirmed the problem with the high CPU usage exists on your end? In this case, will it also be "rude" to tell, I'm not going to downgrade to early 100 bulids, just to visit one website? Besides, your site doesn't even support the dark theme. I don't have any of such troubles with MSFN, despite what you say.1 point

Good idea, but I have tried it with User Agent Switcher indicating Chrome 110 and it has not worked. I think this is the best extension for User Agent https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/user-agent-switcher-and-m/bhchdcejhohfmigjafbampogmaanbfkg?hl=en1 point

You're absolutely right! And the language on the website looks like it was written by a third-grader, at best. So what good to expect from the "OS" then, besides typos in their scripts? The quesion is, whether it needs to be here or not. This doesn't go hand in hand with the good reputation MSFN has. I just wonder why (all of a sudden) @NotHereToPlayGames, with his "energetic spirit", is so quet! He is usually very vocal about "thin/thick/fat/greazy" or whatever he calls his "lines of legality" of the innocent extended kernels.1 point

I’m glad that Hollywood finally stopped making those old things. Means both of you not only (how should I put it politely about your English?) rather off the charts with your English, but also know nothing (zero) about human psychology. Films (movies, how you call it), be it westerns, Rambo, Bond, are meant to let off steam, here, enjoy my wisdom, lol. Add bloody brutal games to that list.1 point

jaclaz, you're right ! Cheap/basic models of Fujitsu are/were indeed "Made in Taiwan" . Middle class and up - Western Germany. A good example would be Celsius or Esprimo. Let's search for any picture of their motherboards from various years and zoom to see they're not asian. D2317-A1 (2005-06 or so) zoom the area near the barcode. https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/CfMAAOSwYEJgfnRo/s-l1600.jpg You can also search for some oldies : D2584 (mobo from FUJITSU SIEMENS Esprimo), D2587, D3011 (FUJITSU SIEMENS from 2010) or even the newer ones for Kaby Lake still says Europe (the area near the CPU). model Nr. D3441-S2 https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/oBoAAOSwxK5izaeR/s-l1600.jpg Now what did they mean by "Europe" ? Italy ? France ? Holland ? One could only guess. I see the French Thomson components on these boards, Philips and other major European manufacturers. And yes, I did look at their internals, opened up lots of their notebooks and monitors. For example, 22 inches and up have Philips or Fujitsu guts, again, not cheap. Cheaper ones usually have LG(Philips) inside of them, LG doesn't have any designs/LCDs of their own, it's all made by Philips and is owned by Philips since 1999-2000. LG-Philips LCD is the world's second (now 1st?) largest maker of ... liquid-crystal displays used for flat screens ... https://www.nytimes.com/2000/11/28/business/lg-of-korea-and-philips-set-screen-making-venture.html Now you all can do whatever you want with your choice of goods, while I continue to support Germany financially.1 point

Unfortunately, a lot of problems. No space for additional PCI cards. Quality of IDE-SATA adapters, lack of space, compatibility problems, IRQ incompatibilities and so on. I've already bought IDE-SATA adapters and expansion cards, but I'm happy if my old computer doesn't need any further modification. This cheap electronic stuff has burnt me out before. I am not really a friend of such adapters.1 point

Not a problem also, since there's plenty of well-working IDE-SATA adapters for like 5 bucks per unit.1 point

Good to hear! But we have the theoretical knowledge to understand the instability of magnetic data. In such a case, one can certainly do without such data, even if it would be very welcome. And all this is not a question of belief. It is rather a question of reason. BTW, no one has claimed that data refreshing is a panacea for preserving magnetic information on an HDD. But it is one reasonable strategy, and that is what this thread is about. AstroSkipper1 point

... It's because of what I hinted previously: Two ways to tackle this: 1. In "about:config", toggle "dom.abortController.enabled" to false, restart Serpent 52 and then installing the userscript from that GH page will work (just tested it now ); but the abort API is still needed by GitHub to properly function, so, after installing the userscript, reset the pref and, again, restart St52... 2. "Patch" the actual extension in below fashion: "./background/index.js" (a minified JS file): -!(!e.AbortSignal||!browser.windows) +(!!e.AbortSignal&&!browser.windows) Again, VM-2.14.0 works as expected in actual FxESR 52.9.x (it doesn't have itself the abort API), the breakage in St52 is due to MCP's (imperfect) abort API implementation inside UXP (FTR, VM's devs are almost oblivious to St52's existence ...).1 point
