@Cixert! You are really helpful here. Thank you for your contributions! IObit Malware Fighter, another candidate which is already on my list. Unfortunately, I have had the same unpleasant experience as you. IObit tries to push their Advanced Systemcare product on every user. This is totally annoying. I have also noticed the increased consumption of resources. And when you uninstall software from IObit, there is always something left over. Then it's a matter of searching and manual cleaning.. On the plus side, IObit Malware Fighter is still compatible with Windows XP, for whatever that's worth. Unfortunately, in Windows XP we can't be very picky and have to consider every option, even those we would normally discard. At the moment, we still have other options, fortunately.2 points

You're welcome, now switch the fake agent on and go here: https://browserleaks.com/javascript What do you see in the AppVersion string?2 points

All more recent browsers show these behaviour. If you have a lot of RAM, it should be not a problem at all although I don't like such consumption. My Windows XP Professional computer is very low on resources. Only 1.5 GB RAM. One of the reasons I appreciate @roytam1's browser so much. On my machine, they are running in single-process mode, consuming RAM as they actually should do. Additionally, I installed Mypal 68 from the very first and also configured it working in single-process mode. It works great, and its RAM usage is low.1 point

Can you provide a screenshot of this breakage? When did this start happening? As we all know, uBlock Origin can be used in two different modes, a standard and an advanced user mode. Which one do you use? In the case, uBlock Origin does not report blocking anything on GitHub, you could check uBO's general settings in the option page. Maybe, one of these settings is problematic when loading a GitHub website. But this is just a theory. When I am back at my desktop computer, I will have a look in my configuration of uBlock Origin and check what happens when accessing GitHub.1 point

You're probably remembering JustOff's "Modify HTTP Response," which is how I initially solved the issue; but I think your user script is a better solution for me since, e.g., ViolentMonkey will run in multiprocess mode, while JustOff's extension won't. BTW has anyone yet noticed similar CSS breakage on GitHub? M$ seems determined to break any browser that won't run on Win 10+. Edit: Well, it works in a clean profile.... I wonder which extension or config setting only breaks GitHub? Edit 2: Well, it's uBO. (Grr.) Strangely, though, when enabled, GitHub breaks - yet uBO doesn't report blocking anything! How am I supposed to tell what to unblock?1 point

Undoubtedly a memory leak! I checked it at my desktop computer but wrote it later using my tablet. Of course, I meant 2.14.0 and 2.13.2 respectively. Sorry for being incorrect! I hate that. Mea culpa! And thank you very much for your information! I used the forum search before but I must have overlooked your solution. I'm not that fit at the moment. And now I've infected you, too. Sorry again! PS: Original, faulty post has been corrected!1 point

That is what I like and agree, I prefer when I'm not overcrowded, and always choose my partners in everything, be it one-night-stands or friendship. Unfortunately, it was not always the case in my military days, until I got an officer rank, at least. So I kinda learned how to find something in common to talk about, until the mission is over, maybe try it? The most important part, don't waste your energy on them.1 point

Or even GTS250, which is a rebrand of 9800GTX anyways, but with less heat.1 point

Yes, seems like a very logical thing to do, go old. They just don't make *honest* wattage anymore. Here's the legenadary *TRUE* 600W PSU they used in Fujitsu Siemens of that era, I think up to 2010 or so. Fujitsu Siemens Power Output Max. Load +5Vsb 3.0A -12V 0.8A +12V1 18A +12V2 18A +12V3 18A +12V4 18A +5V 30A +3.3V 36A 12v x 4 lines , all lines are independent. (not virtaul crap, like in most modern ones) For reference. He needs to look for smth like this. https://www.atxpowersupplies.com/600-watt-power-supply-FSP600-80GHN.php1 point
-
Unfortunately you cannot create Amperes without using Watts, if we go for: 30A@3.3V 30A@5V 40A@12V those imply 30*3.3+30*5+40*12=99+150+480=729 Watts, so a 750 W would be more suitable, but newer 750W ones generally speaking don't have as well more juice on the 3.3V and 5V than the mentioned 20-25A, so if the requirements are confirmed, OP has no other option than finding an used PSU , it seems like the extra Wattage on recent PSU's goes all on the 12 V rail. Could you for once take into account I just missed you, and no strings attached. (some foreigners will probably need to look for a translation). And I missed your errors also , it's *themselves* (plural) ,because you wrote everybody/their. And I have to admit, your small Win10 ISO is quite impressive in size! EDIT: Why does it say only 3GB of RAM? I don't remember they made 1GB DDR3 modules. (assuming you have 1GB+2GB modules?).1 point

and very loud! Better off with something like a used 9800GTX.1 point

That's what usually is said in terms of XP and Vista. Partly true, partly not! I think we already know all arguments. My installation is very old. It did not register itself in Security Center. I can't say what would happen if I did a fresh installation. In this case, it is a proper name and is always written as the author intended, regardless of spelling. We don't really want to go into further linguistic considerations, do we? Apart from that, it would be unfortunately off-topic.1 point

Getting some more time to take a breathe is always a good thing. TBH, I have actually always thought that there is no digital barrier in terms of computers and internet that cannot be overcome, by whatever means. As a European and German, I naturally have no idea what such a barrier really looks like, how it is technically realised and what the consequences of discovering a circumvention might be at your location. Your life and well-being come first in any case, of course. Greetings from Germany, AstroSkipper PS: You are undoubtedly the one who made it possible for me to extend the life of my Windows XP computer by years. I will always be grateful to you for that. And I hope it will never end! I am definitely a Windows XP die-hard fan as you surely know.1 point

How is this "rude" and "unfounded", if you just confirmed the problem with the high CPU usage exists on your end? In this case, will it also be "rude" to tell, I'm not going to downgrade to early 100 bulids, just to visit one website? Besides, your site doesn't even support the dark theme. I don't have any of such troubles with MSFN, despite what you say.1 point

It doesn't mean the spoofing worked to the best extent, google has other ways to determine who you are, AppVersion or ClientHints, for example. https://browserleaks.com/javascript Here's the result of successful spoofing of Chrome 109 (last supported version for Win7). The Browser I'm on - Opera on Chrome 111, running on Vista. I even spoofed the language, just in case, I'm not using the US language, I'm using the UK, of course.1 point

I fervently hope that this will never happen. PS: Consider not liking your last posts as a sign that your fears will never come true. Liking of such posts would be pure madness.1 point

You're absolutely right! And the language on the website looks like it was written by a third-grader, at best. So what good to expect from the "OS" then, besides typos in their scripts? The quesion is, whether it needs to be here or not. This doesn't go hand in hand with the good reputation MSFN has. I just wonder why (all of a sudden) @NotHereToPlayGames, with his "energetic spirit", is so quet! He is usually very vocal about "thin/thick/fat/greazy" or whatever he calls his "lines of legality" of the innocent extended kernels.1 point

Now we talking! So get your arse off the sofa and start resisting! Before it's too late! Form a movement, get support from businesses who are fed up with the agenda crap and just want to make money in a free and safe state. Make up a short and sweet name, like WLM (white legacy matters) or smth. The indoctrination of kids is imported from the well known commie countries. Don't you get it ? Read history, it's how any totalitirian state begins to emerge. Be prepared : up to 75 percent in your movement will be working for the FBI (whio aren't on you side now), but that doesn't mean you will never get sympathies from them. Just be on your guard and act with caution. Later on, when you get enough money - start recruiting pros. (ex-CIA, for example). Some foreigners would do good, take only those who aren't infiltrated by chinorussia, I can help you with the screening. If you ever need my help, just call D.Draker, my boys and me, we are always ready. Your FBI/NSA has no jurisdiction over us. I shan't post any more details here, publicly. P.S. I do consult, also. Strategies, PR, joint force tactical operations command, cyber ops/security - all well within my area of expertise. Later years - psy ops (as a hobby), though I still consider myself a novice in that regard. And, maybe, some day we meet, I'll teach you the proper English spelling personally, while we both protect America from the aliens of all sorts.1 point

I’m glad that Hollywood finally stopped making those old things. Means both of you not only (how should I put it politely about your English?) rather off the charts with your English, but also know nothing (zero) about human psychology. Films (movies, how you call it), be it westerns, Rambo, Bond, are meant to let off steam, here, enjoy my wisdom, lol. Add bloody brutal games to that list.1 point

jaclaz, you're right ! Cheap/basic models of Fujitsu are/were indeed "Made in Taiwan" . Middle class and up - Western Germany. A good example would be Celsius or Esprimo. Let's search for any picture of their motherboards from various years and zoom to see they're not asian. D2317-A1 (2005-06 or so) zoom the area near the barcode. https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/CfMAAOSwYEJgfnRo/s-l1600.jpg You can also search for some oldies : D2584 (mobo from FUJITSU SIEMENS Esprimo), D2587, D3011 (FUJITSU SIEMENS from 2010) or even the newer ones for Kaby Lake still says Europe (the area near the CPU). model Nr. D3441-S2 https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/oBoAAOSwxK5izaeR/s-l1600.jpg Now what did they mean by "Europe" ? Italy ? France ? Holland ? One could only guess. I see the French Thomson components on these boards, Philips and other major European manufacturers. And yes, I did look at their internals, opened up lots of their notebooks and monitors. For example, 22 inches and up have Philips or Fujitsu guts, again, not cheap. Cheaper ones usually have LG(Philips) inside of them, LG doesn't have any designs/LCDs of their own, it's all made by Philips and is owned by Philips since 1999-2000. LG-Philips LCD is the world's second (now 1st?) largest maker of ... liquid-crystal displays used for flat screens ... https://www.nytimes.com/2000/11/28/business/lg-of-korea-and-philips-set-screen-making-venture.html Now you all can do whatever you want with your choice of goods, while I continue to support Germany financially.1 point

1 - Thanks, will keep in mind. 2 - From what I had been taught at school/academy/university - was Dutch, even Japanese for some time and then British ! Not sure about now. [1] - Hey, but they were. Looks like not anymore, and many thanks for bringing it to my attention ! I own such IDE-SATA adapters and also many Addon-cards from Germany (they all have the famous green Siemens board). NO "Made in Taiwan" shown on them. Since you can post links to the shops , I think I also can , here's the place where I bought them and many other parts. https://www.computeruniverse.net/en/p/90745130 I honestly don't know who the owner of the shop is ! Perhaps you will help us to find out ? All I know - the store is German. All parcels arrive from Western Germany. (not DDR, or ex-DDR or whatever they called it in English).1 point
-
Unfortunately, a lot of problems. No space for additional PCI cards. Quality of IDE-SATA adapters, lack of space, compatibility problems, IRQ incompatibilities and so on. I've already bought IDE-SATA adapters and expansion cards, but I'm happy if my old computer doesn't need any further modification. This cheap electronic stuff has burnt me out before. I am not really a friend of such adapters.1 point
-
Not a problem also, since there's plenty of well-working IDE-SATA adapters for like 5 bucks per unit.1 point

All that said does not mean I refresh my HDDs on a regular base. Sorry, I'm afraid I am too lazy to do that with all my HDDs. But from a physical or technical point of view, refreshing of disks makes perfect sense and can make its contribution as a data preservation strategy. Additionally, checking an HDD in form of data refreshing triggers the controller of such a disk to renew its S.M.A.R.T. values and to decide for example whether pending sectors have to be rated as defective or not. I already did that successfully by using Spinrite in the past. After performing such checks or refreshes, there is a positive side-effect. You will definitely know much more about the health of your disks and the condition of the data on it, including up-to-date S.M.A.R.T. values. AstroSkipper1 point

Good to hear! But we have the theoretical knowledge to understand the instability of magnetic data. In such a case, one can certainly do without such data, even if it would be very welcome. And all this is not a question of belief. It is rather a question of reason. BTW, no one has claimed that data refreshing is a panacea for preserving magnetic information on an HDD. But it is one reasonable strategy, and that is what this thread is about. AstroSkipper1 point

@UCyborg posted further sources in his initial post. And the language in which articles were written doesn't matter nowadays. We all can use Google Translator or much better DeepL And, you will find more scientific or technical information by using Google & Co, of course. Very funny! But to be honest, I actually prefer rather scientific answers. And I say that as an outspoken film lover. AstroSkipper1 point

Lubricants drying out is related to the data prevention loss. One would have to turn on the HDD once in a while, from time to time. By doing this you prevent it from being stuck.1 point

it's not been removed from Serpent 52/55 that I know of. I think the actual difference is that Serpent is based on Goanna 4.8 whereas Basilisk is already on Goanna 6.0 if I have to pick a go-to Firefox fork for Win7, Librewolf would be first and then Basilisk and Palemoon with a single active process would be down on my list. Firefox could have a far bigger user base than they have these days if they didn't drop support for XP users, so good luck with your Basilisk project if @roytam1 can I also think you can as well.1 point

no way will I be using a single-process capable browser ever again. it's a nightmare to me. it's ok if you don't think it's safe for you but you should let the end users decide for themselves. https://msfn.org/board/topic/182876-360-extreme-explorer-modified-version/page/129/#comment-12420471 point

... It's because of what I hinted previously: Two ways to tackle this: 1. In "about:config", toggle "dom.abortController.enabled" to false, restart Serpent 52 and then installing the userscript from that GH page will work (just tested it now ); but the abort API is still needed by GitHub to properly function, so, after installing the userscript, reset the pref and, again, restart St52... 2. "Patch" the actual extension in below fashion: "./background/index.js" (a minified JS file): -!(!e.AbortSignal||!browser.windows) +(!!e.AbortSignal&&!browser.windows) Again, VM-2.14.0 works as expected in actual FxESR 52.9.x (it doesn't have itself the abort API), the breakage in St52 is due to MCP's (imperfect) abort API implementation inside UXP (FTR, VM's devs are almost oblivious to St52's existence ...).1 point
