  1. jaclaz , that's precisely what I'm talking about . It interferes with any other HDD scanning tools. If he still had the HDD sentinel installed (when he tried HDDscan) it could be the reason , so he needs to completely remove HDD sent. , clean the registry , reboot (important) and then try other tools . Why ? because HDD sentinel uses native windows loggers to perform it's activities (including USB and SATA HDD speed , for example). Also , may want to check this entry : [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\PerfDisk\Performance] "Disable Performance Counters"=dword:00000000 It's not tied to the temps though . And I'm still sure it's the famous sentinel's ancient bug .

  2. Which version of Brave? Will it run on XP? If I can get the exact version of Brave that has an API to reveal CNAME, maybe I can find a way to add that API to 360Chrome.

  3. Well, the whole point is that HDDscan (which is a different tool) also fails, hence the need to confirm that HDDscan (again a different tool) does work on another machine with the same USB disk. jaclaz

  4. This has nothing to do with Vista and/or drivers . It's a well known HDD sentinel bug , just look at their forums. Try to reinstall it . And remove the remnants before you install it again.

  5. What log file? Are you referring to MSFN.org? I'm not seeing any adobe.com links in my log here at MSFN.org - only cdnjs.cloudfare.com and www.googletagmanager.com which are both being blocked.

  6. I located what seems to be an odd firefox based browser, which ostensibly prevents the user from copying anything from sites, although I have not found it to be the case. I'm not stating categorically that this browser will work on all sites (as it doesn't) , although it does work on 'some' sites that the newer mozilla-type modded browsers don't work as well on....maybe API related... Perhaps there is something in it worth considering for those who are doing the mods and for the users such as myself, it's another browser in the 'arsenal' that still basically works on XP. I'm posting the relevant links and additionally I found that if I copy my extensions to the browser profile, many of the extensions I use will work. The link below seems to try and determine what OS system you are using to view the page and download a browser version for what it determines is the OS you are using. https://artistscope.com/artisbrowser/artisbrowser-download.asp The following link will download the last version that will work on XP. https://images.artistscope.com/download/ASPS_Browser_install_XP.zip Best regards to all.

  7. It's the same rendering, but without ClearType, as it's not possible on translucent surfaces. One may disable it via 'NoDarkTooltips'=(DWORD)1 value in HKCU\SOFTWARE\StartIsBack

  8. The solution works fine for me in 1.28 . Don't know about the later ones , but I wouldn't be surprised if they changed something again.

  11. Hello and welcome , very nice to see a new determined member ! Any chance you would do the same for Vista ? We're struggling with the non-working Chrome extensions.

  14. Please note how OLD those articles are. We shouldn't think that the sky is falling and our computers aren't "secure" based on OLD articles stating THEORIES. That's why I want to see a real-life example and screencaps "blocking" the CNAME trickery and "not blocking" the CNAME trickery. Hulu and KISSmetrics were SUED over ETag "respawning" in 2011/2012 - so while ETag "respawning" is a THEORETICAL vulnerability, nobody does them anymore so why jump through hoops over THEORETICALS ??? Like I say, I want to see a "before and after" screencap to truly assess the "issue".

  15. @dotexe1337 welcome to MSFN. Yes, I would appreciate it if you could make a KernelEx for Windows 7, as some programs are starting to drop support for it nowadays. Good luck on learning and making a KernelEx.

  16. Well , I only use standard drivers , I did not install any USB drivers at all. Everything is at Vista's defaults . When I plugged a USB HDD enclosure in , it said "installing driver, done" . When I plugged another HDD enclosure , it installed a driver again . I have two variants of enclosures with 2 different chips . One is with ASM and another with Philips. DriveCleanup tool reported 25 deleted USB drivers , some of them were used for USB flash drives. Yes, strange indeed ! No problems with SATA external enclosures , only USB are glitchy . I can live without the USB SMART , I need the temps though. Is there a way to diagnose ? I remembered , I installed the audio driver recently , the one that you helped me to find . That's it . But everything was fine for several weeks and then boom ! No SMART, no temps . At first I thought the enclosure gone kaput. But it works on another PC. Thank you, very helpful as usual !

  17. jaclaz , hello . Could you know why the PRO version won't show the USB HDD temps anymore ? All of a sudden , it was working just fine the day before. It won't show the SMART values as well. What I tried , I deleted all USB drivers (cleaned them with) DriveCleanup V0.7.0 . Freeware by Uwe Sieber - www.uwe-sieber.de . Rebooted . But it didn't help at all. The tool is good though ! Also, it says : "status of the hard disk is unknown. The configuration does not provide further disk status information. However, "Disk" menu "Surface Test" function can examine the disk functionality, reveal and fix possible problems." Their supported told me that my external HDD box "is not capable of provoding the info" . Yet like I said , it did just the day before . Could this mean my USB ports are damaged ? The disk itself works fine and I tried several different ones , all the same . Thanks !

  19. as I said before, you have to find a version that is working well in seamonkey first. EDIT: by the way I tried to modify gm-3.31.4 for SM/IA/BN support, but not well tested. you may try this yourself. http://o.rthost.win/boc-uxp/greasemonkey-3.31.4-pm_sm_ia_bn.xpi

  20. The mirror of latest BNavigator, Firefox 45ESR, IceApe, IceDove, K-Meleon 1.5.x/74/76, MailNews 52, New Moon 26.5/27/28 and Serpent 52/55 builds by @roytam1 has been updated -> soggi.org - tools. changelog: - added latest K-Meleon 76 20220129 build - added latest New Moon 27 20220129 builds ------------------------ It's "time to" when something is unrepairable - obviously this wasn't the case. Working old/vintage computers aren't junk, there are many people searching for this stuff for several reasons. The belt is a good and funny example - I'm a 90s child/teenager and I also still use a black leather belt from the 90s with a large but very stable buckle made of metal. It works as intended, it's a belt and it does what a belt is for. Why should I throw it away? I don't participate in every fashion and don't get all these fancy things which will be outdated tomorrow. You are right, there are two sides of the same coin, it's a two-edged sword...but the solution is not buy - throw away - buy - throw away - buy ...and so on. Now you know... Today it wouldn't be used for surfing (or not very often), but for old games and other software. kind regards soggi

  22. From 100+ Linux distros available I have only tried around 10. My favorite for now is Puppy Linux Tahrpup 6.0.5: http://ftp.nluug.nl/ftp/pub/os/Linux/distr/puppylinux/puppy-tahr/iso/tahrpup -6.0-CE/tahr-6.0.5_PAE.iso (205 MB) Screens: You can put it on CD or USB and boot from it. It installs into RAM Memory and works very fast. Has a cute background image. Some of the pre-installed programs: Pale Moon 25.8.1 - default browser, opens most sites, can’t open YouTube; If you want another browser you need to install it additionally VLC media player 2.1.6 IRC HexChat 2.10.2 GParted 0.16.1 (partition manager) Burniso2cd (burn ISO to CD) Screeny Capture (screenshot) quickpet - can easily install many other programs like Steam, Chrome, Firefox, guvcview for your camera, download and install is automatic Other recommended Linux distros that I haven't tried yet: Peppermint OS Linux Lite MX Linux Slax Zorin OS Lite Bodhi Linux Sparky Linux Tiny Core Linux Linux Mint Manjaro Linux Tinycore LXLE AntiX Linux Alpine Arch Linux Q4OS EasyOS Salix OS
