  1. ... Now you hush, "young" gentleman! Those people are already extremely p***ed that you, single-handedly, created the Vista Extended Kernel project, so much so that they fear their "support channels" will get overwhelmed by Vista users running their official builds: https://forum.palemoon.org/viewtopic.php?p=198116#p198116 As the saying goes, "No good deed goes unpunished" ...

  2. not yet for the old data, but new build environment in new WD Black SSD works quite well. I almost get out from depression of regretting of not backing up data in time before old SSD died without obvious symptoms.

  3. The author would have to pack the extension separately for old Chrome versions and distribute that version outside of Chrome Store because CRX_VERSION_NUMBER_INVALID. Edit: file removed

  4. I saw that coming... While I do respect Pale Moon and its developers for maintaining possibly one of the last independent web browsers around (enough to have gifted the x64 versions of 28/likely 29 to Vista), I will also wear the Browser badge with pride. Most people use a webpage viewing application covered in Chrome, a few stragglers need an Explorer to guide them through the Internet, others live on the Edge, and some like roasted fox. But Browser is where I stand. It's just like the "no name" grocery brand, which does quite well here in Canada.

  5. Figured it might come to that, I noticed the comment about unauthorized distribution in one of the files shortly after I uploaded it. It doesn't look like much more than an user agent spoofer for facebook.com. Let's see what happens when they go YouTube route...

  6. MSE offline definitions file (mpam-fe.exe) and WD offline definitions file (mpas-fe.exe) both share the same engine, file mpengine.dll (currently at version 1.1.1730.5); no need to wonder anymore...

  7. OK so, in addition to MPC-HC and Pot Player via 3DYD YTS I am now also able to stream YouTube videos without 3DYD in older versions of MPV, VLC, Osmo4 (GPAC), QMPlay2 and current/latest Mplayer Sherpya build from right click in both Opera 12 and Gecko Browsers. I've also made a quite fancy and useful GUI for Youtube-dl as it turned out I couldn't find any working properly on 9x (not any good one anyway). Coming soon, probably next week, as part of the Youtube-dl 4 98SE-ME Megapack (500MB). Screenies of the GUI for now:

  8. Yea, so I finally got my MSFN account created. Today (or Sep 14, 2020, which is 2 days before) is a sad day for a Vista user on VMWare Workstation Player. VMWare Tools 11.1.0 is no longer supporting Windows Vista SP2 and Server 2008 SP2, according to this documentation. https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-Tools/11.1/rn/VMware-Tools-1110-Release-Notes.html What's more by adding salt to the wound, I just updated VMWare Workstation Player to 16.0.0 today, with corresponding hardware version number updated (by modifying .vmx file, changing virtualHW.version variable to "18"). Then I've found out DirectX 11 virtual hardware cannot be equipped on a Windows Vista guest, despite it supports DX11. I guess this is a farewell from VMWare dev team to Windows Vista. Those who run Windows 7/8/8.1/10 and corresponding server builds on VMWare Workstation as a guest could celebrate and cheer for DX11 support, but that party door shut for Vista / Server 2008 original users permanently. Here are some additional information on DX11 support for VMWare Workstation 16: https://blogs.vmware.com/workstation/2020/05/directx-11-now-with-workstation-tp20h2.html

  9. oh, it could be something like this: Maybe it picks up on the OS version and then refuses to load if it sees the wrong one. First it was Qt 5.10+ (Vista), allegedly user mode components of later NVIDIA drivers (Vista), AMD drivers (Windows 8) as well as assorted miscellaneous drivers (Windows 2000). I think we really do need a way to make the OS universally identify as a later one, The way to do this for 2000 is probably quite simple, but for all x64 operating systems post-Longhorn reset (including XP x64), I'm not sure yet. or maybe they made the value little-endian? I'll look into that.

  10. Is there any non-UWP/DX12 software that really cannot run on W7? The only missing win32 API function that I've seen called is user32!SetCoalescableTimer by the Office 2019 installer and it should be trivial to add. Vegas Pro 17 says in its system requirements that it needs Windows 10 but the installer says that it requires Windows 7/8. The Whatsapp desktop application says that it needs Windows 8 but runs on 7. Probably just people taking W7 EOS too seriously, even though Windows 8 as a client OS had its EOS in 2016. Mind you, it's quite difficult to trick VMware installers (unless you can get the OS to effectively become NT 6.2, which may cause web browsers to freeze). So that Workstation 11/12 method should work.

  11. Assuming that there is a version for Chrome, which I'm pretty sure there is, I don't see why not. Edit: It's here.
