matthewk
There seem to be many fans of VLC and many of MPC. I was wondering how the two compare to the knowledge of the people here? I am really interested on this input. Both seem to be very good programs; is there a get away with just one?vlchttp://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-windows.htmlmpchttp://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.p...ackage_id=84358 Edited August 27, 2005 by matthewk
DigeratiPrime
I use MPC with a DirectShow Filter Pack so it can play everything. I like the simple GUI and standalone exe that is mpc.

ripken204
i use vlc because i dont have to worry about codecs, never tried mpc tho
bmn
the best thing in MPC is,it will tell u what codec u need to play that particular file.and it looks liter.but works awesome.

Egon's Dragon
I would use VLC only for playing DVDs outside of my DVD-ROM's region; i.e., non-Region 1 DVDs. So, as a DVD player, VLC is buggy as hell, so I don't use it any more. Can MPC do this?
bmn
do u mean region manipulation?i dono abt it.but is it legal?
techniquefreak
First and foremost - MPC ...Nice and unobtrusive
Egon's Dragon
do u mean region manipulation?i dono abt it.but is it legal?<{POST_SNAPBACK}>As far as I know, yes, it is legal. There are many legitimate programs you can buy to do that, without having to flash your firmware. It isn't really manipulation; more like fooling your DVD-ROM into thinking it's the same region as the DVD you put in. Anyway, VLC is a clumsy DVD player. Jeremy
i use vlc because i dont have to worry about codecs<{POST_SNAPBACK}>Codecs aren't much of a bother, very simple to deal with. And anyway, it's nice to keep a look out for any new codecs/filters that playback formats more efficiently without increase or possibly decrease in CPU usage. Codecs/filters integrated into the EXE aren't always the best thing, I know this is the case with MPC, but you have the option to use alternate codecs I think.
