I use partition magic it is not free but it is the best. But if you search for a disc called "Ultimate Boot Disc" there is a series of utilities on there which would help, and this is free

Even though it is not free, try EasyRecovery Professional by Ontrack Data International.... it can almost recover anything... RAW, Deleted, Format, and more.

Partition Magic does NOT repair damaged partitions.

By using it on a drive with a possibly damaged partition you could make things MUCH worse.

@Lost Soul

HDD regenerator does NOT repair damaged partitions.

Here you need a data recovery tool.

The best FREEWARE one is TESTDISK:

http://www.cgsecurity.org/index.html?testdisk.html

Make sure you READ the docs before using it.

Even if Testdisk fails in recovering the partition, the (included in the download) PHOTOREC might be able to recover most of the files in the partition.

Read these too:

Once and for all, Partition Magic is NOT capable of RECOVERY of a damaged partition or of the data within it:

http://www.powerquest.com/partitionmagic/features.html

It is a tool to create/tune/resize/modify/change/split/merge partitions, it also includes a boot manager.

By using the recovery floppies it is possible IN A VERY SMALL NUMBER of cases, to undelete a partition, that's all.

It is the direct match with Acronis Partition Manager and Acronis Boot Manager, NOT with Acronis Recovery Expert, which is a good app to recover data/partitions.

Windows Disk Administration CANNOT recover partitions, using it may result in losing any chance of recovery.

As said in the linked posts and elsewhere on the board, there are just two FREEWARE data/partition recovery tools:

TESTDISK (and PHOTOREC)

http://www.cgsecurity.org/testdisk.html

and

PC INSPECTOR FILE RECOVERY

http://www.pcinspector.de/file_recovery/UK/welcome.htm

Then there are tens of COMMERCIAL ones.

There are also tens if not hundreds of FREEWARE and COMMERCIAL tools for the "professionals" or "very advanced users" to manually recover data, but the use of them needs a deep knowledge of how hard disks, filesystems and records work.
