MS 'hopes' to switch the world over from Java to 'Visual'....

And the Java interfacing situation has done a complete about-face: years ago the Sun Java didn't work at many sites-- one had to have MS Java; now i see sometimes sites that require Sun & using the MS version doesn't work.....

MS Java is history but Mdgx has listed the MS Java build 3809 and 3810 downloads

at his Addons page:

http://www.mdgx.com/add.htm

Look in the Microsoft Java Virtual Machine section.

I haven't found or encountered any sites that specifically use Sun Java so I do not

need it. non-IE Web browsers I use (Opera 8 beta 1, Mozilla 1.75, Netscape 7.2

and Firefox 1.0) work fine w/out Sun Java.

let me know if there are any web sites that actually use sun java.

Are we getting closer to 2.0 rc2 or 2.0 final yet?

Probably because the Java standard has moved forward and Microsoft's implementation hasn't.

RC2 is ready. I think I will release it on Friday. Sorry, it is not final, but it is very stable and reliable. I strongly believe that it is latest RC release.

Someone has reported shut down problem, I'm working on it now. Does anybody have shut down problem?

Gape, as long as you keep altering the SP it stays RC.

So when you feel RC1 was fine, you ment RC1 = Final.

You can't release an altered package as final after RC1 when it's not tested yet. So of course the following version will be RC2, hopefully RC2 = Final :thumbup

Gape:

Updated unofficial Windows NT4/98/ME HTML Help v1.41 [673 KB, English]:

HHSETUP.DLL, ITIRCL.DLL, ITSS.DLL, HH.EXE + HHCTRL.OCX Update build 5.2.3790.1433 from Windows 2003 SP1 RC2.

Maybe you would like to include them in SP 2.0 RC2 or final.

I've tested these files on my system with 98SE, ME + XP SP2 and they work great.

FYI:

How to install HTML Help 1.41 on Windows ME:

1. You MUST disable System Restore: open Control Panel -> System -> Performance Tab -> File System -> Troubleshooting area -> check the "Disable System Restore" box -> click OK -> reboot.

2. Download + install CoolKill [797 KB, freeware]:

http://www.prowebsitemanagement.com/downloads/coolkill.zip

3. Run COOLKILL.EXE -> right-click on the CoolKill icon in Taskbar Tray -> highlight STMGR.EXE -> left-click on it to terminate this process.

4. Download + install HHUPD.EXE (see above).

5. You may want to reenable System Restore: open Control Panel -> System -> Performance Tab -> File System -> Troubleshooting area -> uncheck the "Disable System Restore" box -> click OK -> reboot.

I have e-mail this problem to the author but it's enough important to be reposted here:

I Installed W98SP2_sesp20rc1. (All the components except one, but I don't

remember which one.) and I ran across a huge problem:

I was not able to use my computer anymore!!

:realmad:

After restart, the mouse was moving but I couldn't clic any icon, the keyboard

was not working, thus no win-key and emergency restart possible. Nothing was

working except the "reset" button on the computer case... :(

I succeeded my way out by typing, after restart Ctrl+Alt+Del during the desktop

start up, just after the green-blue desktop appear, just before the taskbar or

the icon.

Then in the "close program" dialog box" I canceled some tasks at random. By

doing this 2 or 3 times, I succefuly made a working restarted environement :thumbup .

I let the 3 or 4 first task going on, but ended the next ones.

Then I promptly reinserted my original W98SE installation disk and made a

reinstall over.

After the reinstallation, I had the compensation of finding TweakUI in the

control panel...

So I guess some of the stuff were installed moreles successfuly and my computer works fine.

I did the upgrade on an old install and it was the first upgrade I ever did.

I have French(Belgian) lnguage installed. I'v read that

one must have the english version thought I wonder if it makes a difference

concerning the total freeze of my PC...

What do you advice me to do at this stage? Maybe trying again with an earlier version?

SP is only for ENGLISH version of Windows 98 SE. Sorry, but you cannot use SP on a localized Windows. Someone made a French version of the SP. But I don't remember the address of it. Please, search the forum. (Don't forget that, I only support English Windows 98 SE).

Do you know the "Safe Mode"? If your Windows doesn't open normally, you should try "Safe Mode".

How do I restart in safe mode?

I know what it is, but I never founf out how to intentionaly start in safe mode.

I didn't know "ENGLISH" was so important. So now we will know that it's very dangerous to run the pack on non english platforms...

Windows 98 / ME Users

To get into Windows 98 / ME safe mode as the computer is booting you press and hold your "F8 key" on the top of your keyboard or press and hold the left or right Ctrl key as the computer is booting. If done properly you should get into the "Windows 98 / ME Startup Menu" similar to the below screen example. In this menu choose option 3 by pressing the 3 key and press enter.

Note: With some computers if you press and hold a key as the computer is booting you will get a stuck key message as the computer is booting. If this occurs instead of pressing and holding the "F8 key" tap the "F8 key" continuously until you get the startup menu.

Cliquez >Traductions -> Système. Voir en bas de page.

I hope you find it usefull.

Yes, I hope ;)

I hope it will work with French(Belgium). If not I will reinstall with French(France). It's too stupid.
