i put them into C:\Programs\ and put named shorcuts in the SYSTEM32 folder, to call them

so Start, Run, "cdex" would load cdex, "mpc", loads media player classic, and so forth

That is:

1. difficult for yourself

2. not microsoft's recommended method

3. cluttering up with files.

Instead, add entries for the names of programs you want to directly run, over here:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths

No, that's the registry key where all paths to known executables are stored.

For example, when you type "CMD" into the Run box, windows will look into that registry key to find out where cmd.exe is located.

I noticed that bledd was doing something which could be simplified this way, therefore that info!

@ Afterdawn, i found an old copy of Acrobat Reader 4 do you think its worth adding to my list, i mean i dont have any pdf`s created with newer releases to test wether this old stand alone reader will open them. maybe someone can test it and let me know.

Many old Acrobat versions are kept in the text-only Adobe Reader download page
