Microsoft's AntiSpyware (Beta) Install

Featured Replies

I haven't made a contribution to this great site, so I think this will be my first.....

REG ADD %KEY%\022 /VE /D "Microsoft Anti-Spyware" /f
REG ADD %KEY%\022 /V 1 /D "%PP%MSAntiSpyware\MicrosoftAntiSpywareInstall.exe /v/qn" /f

I am going to try it in a minute, so I'll report back in about an hour. The silent switches I got out of the MS AS newsgroups....we'll see if it works or not.

Download MS Anti_Spyware Beta Here

if you start an install, it extracts a MSI to the ...\local settings\temp folder

For the extracted msi

Command line parameters:
/L language ID
/S Hide intialization dialog.  For silent mode use: /S /v/qn.
/V parameters to MsiExec.exe

I guess the latter will be these

/P password mode
/A administrative installation
/J advertise mode
/X uninstall mode
/F repair mode
/B cache installation locally

Might try this app, as I used to use GIANT Antispyware before MS bought them over.

An acquaintance of mine has just installed it along side Spybot and Adaware, and it picked up more than half a dozen things missed by them.

well...it did not install with the exe...trying the MSI next

I tried a few things with the msi and no luck yet. It does install silently with the /passive switch but the program gives me an error when starting it. I will report back with more info if i get any.

it does work with the msi im pretty sure, as GIANT did before they bought them.

Weird, it is GIANT Anti Spyware but now with microsoft plastered all over it.

It does not work with the msi file and it does not work with the exe installer.

Installs silently, but generates an error when started. Only fix I can find is to install manually, then it starts and runs fine.

There's obviously an error with the installer. Hope the next Microsoft update fixes the problem.

Yeah same here now ive tested it, looking into it now. Weird, is it gonna stay the same lookas it is now, as its exactly the same as GIANT, they havent even changed the support contact yet hehe.

Yeah, but just TRY installing it on a Windows 98 box! :) Of course, if you're using Win98, you're obviously insane anyway...

I am really sorry that I got some people's hopes up....I thought this would be a no brainer install......

.....things I did figure out that was wierd was if I used the same switches from the command line, the sw would install fine silently...just not with the RunOnceEX.cmd....that I find strange. Above all, I've only been doing this for 2 weeks...so I am still a noob.
