HFSLIP (original thread)

The problem with makecab is that when it makes a compressed binary, it assigns the current date.
I didn't know that :blushing: And as I said there maybe some more things I'm not aware of
people will complain that their i386 folder is too big.

I meant not to add the files to the source at the first step but unpack all the updates/needed files in one directory and make a .cab or some other file for the future use. The second step may continue the process of repacking the source files and the files in this directory.

Nothing will happen with the source - it shouldn't be bigger then just running the script as it's now. But one or a few files more will be created in a separate folder for the future use instad of hotfixes integrated this time (next time these hotfixes maybe replaced by this file).

Next time running the script with hotfixes in HF folder and a newly created file in say SP folder will mix the content of these two folders, creates the upated file again and the second step will do it's work. Or this file may be also placed in HF dirctory and treated as a hotfix.

I have to question why this may be an issue.

No issue at all, I'm a happy user of your script at the moment :) And it is not about the time. Just like to have one updated file instad of a large collection of files. Think it is more elegart

Best regards,

Oleg 2

PS Just thought: if the files from hotfixes will be extracted to the folder for the future use, is the time stamp still an issue? And the job may be done by a separate script?

@Oleg: I understand what you are saying. It's far easier re-running the script to get it done correctly. 10-15 mintes is all it takes running the script, and of that, 80% is the cabbing function. If you wanted to slipstream updated binaries afterward, you would have to do the recabbing once again (which is 10 minutes or so). So in all, you would save about 3 minutes. Personally I don't think it's worth it.

@samogon. Here's a 3rd request for you to read the instructions that came with the zip. The first time was when you ran the file, 2nd time was in my post an hour ago, and here's the third time. I pasted the instructions below for you to make it easier for you. Without this info, I CANNOT help you.

Q. I am getting messages saying WU isn't happy. How can I report this?

A1. Please re-read the "Known [non-issue] Issues" section of this file to see if it's a known issue already.

A2. Please download the HFNETCHK program, and run it with the commandline HTNETCHK -V -F C:\WU.TXT

A3. Please post your language and the WU.TXT file on the http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=32125 board

That's all my English :blushing:

It is not about saving time running the script.

What we have in folders now:

1. 8 files for IE.

2. 2 files for DirectX.

3. 19 hotfixes for integration (I don't integrate Media Player 9).

4. 2 hotfixes with new binaries.

That's Ok. But I meant to run a script (it may be a separate one from hslip.cmd) and getting ONE file that includes all these 31 items wich will be easier to store in a safe place

Next time MS issues a new hotfix, there will be only two files in the folders:

1. A new hotfix.

2. The file we created last time running the script.

No time saving as we have to run one script twice.

Maybe not much space saving as there will be mostly the same files as in all hotfixes but consolidated in one file.

But it will be a ONE file, my personal Service Pack if you like  that I store along with the distributive (SP4 is included) untill next time integrating and creating a new one to store.

Anyway thank you for your time and for the script again!

And for your patience :thumbup

Best regards,

Oleg 2

hello world!

how to avoid this freeze?

used german w2k, files prepared as written on fred vorcks page (up to step thirteen), used nlite only for building the iso-image

freeze on first gui-start (before you enter the serial number)

edit: ooops - freezes also without hfslip

so I have to re-install my development-system.

sorry.

thanks.

@dziubek. Thanks for beta testing with a different language. FYI, you do not have to change the language in the beginning. But I have an issue with this. It really does seem that you are using a modified and non-virgin source. If your newest file in your source\i386 folder is newer than Sep 30, 2004, then it's not virgin and the script won't work.

Can you tell me the file dates of each of these files in your source\i386 folder?

agentdpv.dl_ (mine is 8/4/04)

authz.dl_ (mine is 8/4/04)

dhtmled.oc_ (mine is 8/3/04)

hh.ex_ (mine is 8/4/04)

hlink.dl_ (mine is 8/29/02)

hypertrm.dl_ (mine is 8/4/04)

icm32.dl_ (mine is 8/4/04)

lsasrv.dl_ (mine is 8/4/04)

mrxsmb.sy_ (mine is 8/3/04)

ole32.dl_ (mine is 8/4/04)

shell32.dl_ (mine is 8/4/04)

srv.sy_ (mine is 8/3/04)

srvsvc.dl_ (mine is 8/4/04)

tcpip.sy_ (mine is 8/3/04)

telnet.ex_ (mine is 8/4/04)

Are you using an NLITEd slipstreamed source? Are you using something that XPCreated? The script works as advertised with English, and this is the first issue I see with people running the script.

New file posted this morning.

What's new:

1) Additional fixes to for non-English slipstreaming (English still works fine)

2) Add reg files, cmd files, inf files to get processed at T-13 minutes. Say goodbye to importing REG entries using an $OEM$ and CMDLINES method. BTW, CMDLINES happens at T-12 minutes.

3) Added in more information to the non-English users and how to report any WindowsUpdate issues they have.

Don't forget the read the instructions....

Enjoy!

I used new file (HFSLIP_50807.CMD)

bugi5lt.th.png

"Creator of internet connections.

System Windows can not load the library of internet configuration (ICFGNT.DLL). Following mistake stepped out:We can not find definite module."

When I click "OK" system installs further without no errors. It turns out that this error causes:

* the lack of possibility of installation new network connections

* IE doesn't start

* the majority of services be switched off or has not them in system (example:Background Intelligent Transfer Service)

Generally: System function but we can not use internet :>

I use clean installation XP (SP2)

* I don't use nlite.I benefit him when your program will run in 100% from Polish XP :]

* it doesn't erase no catalogues /folders

* I don't swap no files

*Only winnt.sif adds to source ;)

This will help, maybe:

@dziubek: I know English isn't your primary language. I would STRONGLY recommend to read the instructions that came with the zip file. I didn't write the instrutions for my health. The msxml copy errors are a known issue (just as the directions say). Also, it appears that you were trying to be fancy in creating your folder structure. The instuctions give an example on folder structure. KEEP IT SIMPLE! For example, place the file in a folder called hfslip. D:\hfslip\hfslip_0809.cmd. If you put characters in there, it won't work (this is also stated in the instruction file). Also, if you have windowsupdate questions, please follow the instructions on how to report them (the instructions have directions for that too). Please do yourself a favor, and translate the english directions to your native language and read them. All the answers you need to fix this is there.
