The whole idea about *.xxx to *.xx_ is that they are compressed.

Take a look at the makecab command.

:)

I dont know does it work or even help anything but I do have a feeling that

if one just renames the file to *.xx_ it wont be compressed.

Compression gives more free space, im runnin low allready in my UACD,

every byte counts, he he.

On the other hand, maybe them files are still compressed after one extract them,

then everyone on can just disregard this silly post.

Im going to try to get wmp10 in the unattended cd later today thought,

maybe I'll post back if I find out something usefull.

Yes, you are suppose to use the makecab utility like Lolly says, and I'm lookin at 132 files here after extracting them from WinRAR.

Was anyone successful in intergrating WMP 10 this way?

Just drop all of them into jcarle's Utilities Compression Bin, and you'll get the files compressed in notime.. Works like a charm.. :thumbup

If you want to integrate with xp ,Do like this ,this is my method ,and it works great for me .here we go.

First extract all your files to one folder and rename all the files and copy and paste in i386 directory.replace all existing files

now if the file is like this wmplayer.exe now rename this file to "wmplayer.ex_"

like this to every file xxx.xxx to xxx.xx_ ,thats it .it works for me .

do this after SP2 slipstreamed.

If you want full xp and if you dont want to remove any components ,use this or you can use runonce method.

OK, that's a bit revolutionary (I didn't think of it till now). Has anybody else succeeded with this too? If so, I'll give it a shot.

One problem is that what was 12 MB installer now occupies much more space when de-compressed from the original IEXPRESS SFX archive (35 MB). Also, if we're just going to over-write files in I386, what about the old WMP9 INF files contained there?

Well I extracted everything, then used jcarle''s utility and it compressed every file as if you did it the makecab way.

I placed all of it in the i386 folder. Going to test this tonight.

I made a quick comparison of which WMP10 files are in the I386 folder and which aren't.

Maybe someone finds it useful for integrating WMP10 into the Unattended CD (you know: by replacing WMP9 with WMP10).

Here the list; -> means that the file is cabbed.

EDIT:

I used an unmodified XP-CD with SP2 slipstreamed.

I also found out that the mp3 codecs: l3codecp.acm and l3codeca.acm co-exist after I had installed WMP10 in a working XP.

So they are both located in the system32 folder.

EDIT:

WMP10 removed the lameACM mp3codec (that I had as default rip-codec) and replaced it with his mp3codec.

LameACM is still installed, but no longer working in WMP.

I seperated the files that are already located in I386 from the files that aren't.

yes.txt contains the list of files thar are located in I386.

no.txt contains the list of files that aren't located in I386.

Just wanted to add some confirmation. I tried a virtual install with this in my RunOnceEx.cmd:

REG ADD %KEY%\001 /VE /D "Windows Media Player 10" /f
REG ADD %KEY%\001 /V 1 /D "%systemdrive%\install\WMP\mp10setup.exe /Q:A /C:\"setup_wm.exe /DisallowSystemRestore /Q /R:N\"" /f

It worked just fine.

I should say ffdshow may be a smart choice.

is it possible to do this if my WMP 9 is already removed with nLite?

no, its not possible.

why is it not possible? I ask because Im also interested in adding wmp10 slipped instead of through svcpack.inf, but would need to know why it cant be done...also, the easiest thing for slipping wmp10 would be to remove wmp9 with nlite, then you should be able to use mstest's post or do one of your own.
